Picked this up on a message board regarding Brassell. Talk about delusional! Hope you get a good laugh.<div>

Other schools do.

Miss St. signed Dontae Jones out of Juco. His grades were so bad he was hopeless, but he somehow managed to complete something like 36 hours in one summer. Also, some of his former grades were changed and he was suddenly eligible. One of his Juco teachers refused to change his grade. She was fired and the Dean changed the grade. She sued for being wrongfully terminated and won big time.

He took them to the Final 4. Do we want that?

Ole Miss will never do things like that to keep players eligible and it puts us at a disadvantage. It is no coincidence that the all time lowest NFL Wonderlich score was a Miss St player.</font>[/b]

</div><div>The poster quoted didn't mention if the ex-Bears' scores were high or not, but I'd be willing to bet that Eli's stellar scores certainly skewed the average.</div><div>
</div><div>In actuality, very few of the Wonderlic scores from either school, or just about any other school, seem to be anything to brag about.</div>

ETA Chad Pennington was a Rhodes Scholar finalist and scored a 25, Ryan Leaf scored a 27.

Seems to me every time I've read about the academic minimums and which schools are in danger of losing or have lost schollies due to not meeting minimum thresholds, we have not been penalized ot come particularly close in a long time, whereas Ole Miss has, in fact, lost schollies and seems to be always flirting with disaster.<div>
</div><div>It was just last week that Freeze seemed sure he was going to have a major problem with academic disqualification of a huge chunk of players. With the recent announcement that 22 of the 25 in peril "miraculously" raising their GPA from an average of .25 to 2.0 in one session even Freeze seemed shocked they got that many back. Yet here's another snooty-assed, delusional Reb looknig down his nose at us as if they are superior, despite all evidence to the contrary. Hilarious.</div>

with Smoot having a record low bench reps. I'm almost certain he has it mixed up, or it'd be common knowledge on SPS.

FWIW, Dan Marino scored a 6 or 7. Matt Stafford has the record high. Do you think kids like Morris Claiborne or Anthony Dixon who aren't worried about getting their degrees give a SHIIIIIT about the Wonderlic? Not defending any MSU player, just in general I think these scores are dumb. This guy obviously has things mixed up with Smoot though.

I can't remember which one, but he had held the record low score of 5 on the wonderlic until Claiborne got a 4 this year.

Higher than the likes of Tim Tebow, Jimmy Clausen, Brett Favre, Ben Roethlisberger, and tied with Chad Pennington. Finished only one point behind Jay Cutler and Kyle Orton, who went to prestigious academic institutions.

I know his interviews sound terrible, but AD was bright. Had a GPA over 3.0 at State. One can speak jive and still be intelligent. It is a social thing.

He had the 2nd highest score among all RBs his year. Only Toby Gerhart was higher, and (correct me if I'm wrong) I believe Dixon and Gerhart were the only 2 RBs to get an above average score, compared to the general population.

From the linked article, one surprise was that Eli Manning scored so much higher than Peyton. 39 to 28.

I was basing the Marino score off what the "draft experts" said during the first round. Obviously they're idiots and/or they were exaggerating. I wasn't in any way calling Dixon unintelligent, but from his TV spots and social media rants you couldn't blame me for thinking it. My POINT was Dixon didn't care about a degree and guys like Claiborne don't care about taking a test like this. If he did make a 25 that's awesome. But I think Dixon is stupid for going to college for 3 1/2 years and not finishing. 3.0 my ***. December before the draft he showed up for a departmental exam in McCool and put his name on it and turned it in within 5 minutes with a big ole cheesy grin on his face. Obviously his future is in athletics and then high school coaching, so that's fine (after taking MSU's new student-athlete continuation program Byrne/Stricklin started). It just goes to show how the wonderlic scores are inaccurate, irrelevant, and something I don't even look at if I'm a GM.

But getting back to the jackass ragging on our education, most football players get a degree in kinesiology or secondary education. I've only seen a few players declared IS majors since Mullen arrived. To take it a step further into basketball, Steele is a business communications major. Our starting middle linebacker this past season who was like 3rd on the team in tackles or something ridiculous forwent his senior year of eligibility to take an engineering job at a firm in Alabama. Every team has morons and geniuses. But Ole Miss shouldn't talk when they get most of their star athletes from USP who doctors grades like no other high school, JUCO, or college in the nation. They also shouldn't talk about what degrees we offer when like 99.9% of their undergrads major in education, history, English, and political science.

I don't know Dixon's gpa but you actually question if it was a 3.0 because in the last semester prior to the draft he blows off an exam. Do you think that maybe he already knew he was going to quit school and get ready for the draft in the spring? Shirley you don't think he did that for the first three years as well.

Of course not. But why does he even show up if he literally put his name on it and turned it in? And why go to classes for 3 1/2 years + summers and not finish out your degree? Vick and KJ had no problem doing it. So that and the fact that he has a 3rd graders English skills lead me to believe he probably didn't have a 3.0. I hope I'm wrong, but if he could have graduated with a B average and didn't but trained at our facilities for the draft I think that's disrespectful on so many levels. He owed it to his mother, his brothers, himself, the coaches, and anyone who ever helped him along the way to attend classes that spring while he was training. And maybe he'll get that degree once he's finished with football and he's stockpiling part of his money for a semester of college + expenses. Who knows. I see him all over campus to this day. He could have finished up online. Again, who knows. But to relate it back, half of these kids, especially the ones who leave early, don't care about a wonderlic test.

So Dixon should have put off the NFL for an entire year just to 17ing graduate?... Seriously?..You do realize that he can go back to school at any time in the future and finish, right? I'd be willing to bet that if he had not been an NFL prospect (and was just an average player) then he would have graduated easily. Honestly, I think he would be a moron if did NOT quit school in order to focus full-time on getting himself drafted as highly as possible.

And Jesus H. Christ, what is that **** about Dixon owing to various people to finish his education? Who do you think you are??? If anything, MSU owes him an honorary doctorate in theoretical physics just for coming to Starkville during one of the most shitastic periods of MSU football...EVER

On one positive note.... Solid avatar pic of Gerald.

Let's see, focus on making millions now and if he doesn't get drafted at all he simply needs to go back to Starkville for 4 months OR finish up now, take the chance of not being ready for the draft, lose out on millions potentially, and get a job making $40,000 a year (high estimate for a lot of degrees these days) and work for at least a couple of decades (depending on raises and career path) to make the first million.

I understand where you are coming from but with literally millions of dollars on the line, how in the hell can you blame the guy? If in his shoes, the only time I would not be working out, running sprints, and gobbling down protein would be to sleep or talk to my agent. MSU will be there when the NFL days are over. The NFL opportunity is usually a one shot deal for most guys.
