uscreb would probably be better suited for this, but I'm going forward with it.

Anyway, I think one of the main problems Arkansas fans have is that they are the only show in town in Arkansas. From my experience, I think that breeds an even more irrational fanbase. It's like going to a message board that doesn't have dissenting opinions. It would breed a monster where everyone reinforces their own ideas. Talk radio, the media, everything related to Arkansas athletics in the state of Arkansas comes from similar viewpoints. There are no dissenting opinions, so they've inflated their own self-worth by reinforcing their own ideas over and over.

It's like the difference between someone growing up an only child and growing up with a sibling. The only child sometimes has trouble learning to share, because they've never been forced to do so, and sometimes they have a harder time learning humility, since they never have to be wrong. In Mississippi, we have two fanbases that can beat each other down and keep each other in check. Just when you start to get a big head about yourself, the other school's fans are there to remind you about something. I think it's healthier that way. We both have our sets of irrational fans, but ours are lower percentages than that of Arkansas since we have a rival school in our neighborhood keeping us from getting too excited about ourselves.

There is no one in Arkansas calling into the talk shows making fun of their fans when they start talking about winning national championships and beating Alabama regularly.

I doubt Nutt will ever recruit as many top draft picks as Orgeron did (unless he stays at UM for close to a decade), but his recruiting doesn't suck. And as much hell as you guys give Snead, you're going to miss him a lot this fall.

In 10 years at Arkansas, Nutt once has back to back draft classes that produced 10 combined NFL draft picks (2007 and 2008), and he once had back to back draft classes that produced 8 NFL draft picks (2004 and 2005), which is why I don't think it's unrealistic to think he could produce 8 in back to back draft classes at Ole Miss.

Yeah, because he has never had 8 players drafted in two year, except for...

2007/2008when he had 11 NFL draft picks including 3 first rounders and 6 picks in the first three rounds.

2004/2005 when he had 8 NFL draft picks including 3 first rounders.

Then there were the two year periods where he had 7 draft picks, like 2008/2009, 2006/2007, 2003/2004, 2000/2001 (some of which may have been Ford recruits).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Arkansas_Razorbacks_in_the_NFL_Draft

And you may very well be right on Snead. I've oftened wondered how it will play out, but its hard to miss 20 INTs in a season and 33 in two seasons. We were 11th in turnover margin last season. When you consider that, its hard to believe we played as well as we did last season. And who knows what would have happened if we hadn't had all those INTs.

If Stanley just protects the ball and is a marginal passer, we may be better in the passing game. We'll see.

They care (dislike) Nutt so much because of the handling of Mustain and Malzhan from recruitment to their exit. As well as a number of other things, which the Mustain, Malzhan, and Williams leaving was the final straw. Nutt was not going to be told who and how to recruit by fans and the fans had grown tired of the man because he did not throw on every down with 3 NFL Rbs in the backfield and had not won an SEC Championship.

To the rest of the world, the firing/involuntary resignation was baseless, irrattional, and flat out dumb and they had to defend it. They invaded OM's message boards and continued to stalk the man (which to be fair has died off this summer) because of exactly what Bruiser said. They wanted to be justified in what they did. Nutt going to what they consider is a lesser school and doing well doesn't sit well. I like the analogy of the abusive, jealous ex-boyfriend getting pissed off when the girlfriend finds another boyfriend, who happens to be a rival, and is happy. The ex just can not stand it. That is dead on what is going on with them. That and like it has been mentioned. They are just flat out delusional. I would say Hogville is a pretty good sample of the majority of their fan base. No kidding.

Another argument these lunatics make is the talent Petrino inherited being down. And they are right.

But how can they not see that THE LUNATICS themselves were the ones who single handily destroyed their recruiting from within. These caused the implosion by meddling in the staff's affairs and then blamed it on Nutt.

With the controversy caused by the fans (which was unlike anything I'd ever seen in college football) and the cloud swirling over the program as a result, what recruit in his right mind wanted to sign with that program in 2004-2007?

They put their own staff behind the eightball and then refused to acknowledge the damage they did.

Orgeron (known as one of the BEST recruiters) = 8 in a two year span
Nutt (known as a marginal recruiter) = 11 in a two year span, 8 in another, etc. etc. (see ombd's post for numbers)

Or it could mean that Nutt is one of the best recruiters of all time because he got that kind of talent to Fayetteville. Or it could mean absolutely nothing at all.

So I guess it remains to be seen if Nutt can out-do himself and/or Orgeron. I don't think he can, especially seeing that alot of your recruiting ranking star power is contributing nothing to your team. I'm sorry, but guys like 2* wonder Jesse Grandy, on average, won't be NFL draft picks. So don't kid yourselves.

For the record, I never said I believed anything the Hogville guy told me. It was just interesting to see the "other" side of the story, since I had mainly sided with Nutt on the whole issue.

I agree 100% with this. Not only are they the only show, there is no large media outlets anywhere near central and northwest Arkansas. Where the vast majority of their fans live. Also, very few people from other parts of the country. So like you say, there is no other viewpoint or opinion....zero perspective. Talk radio and all sports media here is Razorback football 90% of the time. It is almost like a communist country. Hog logo every where, positive spin by the media on every story, the only story reported.............It is what I imagine North Korea to be like in respect to their national soccer team.

I understand what you're trying to say but rendering Nutt blameless is very naive and homerific.

McCluster was a well known back, just a tad overlooked. Not a 2* diamond in rough.

Shay Hodge didn't get drafted.

Next time actually READ the post.

is how important OM scheduling has been to their recent success. I think it has more to do with that than anything else. Recruiting stars are less important than a nice manageable schedule....

Kendrick Lewis wasn't highly rated out of high school.

Peria Jerry was a 2 star out of high school, 1st rounder.

John Jerry was a 3 star out of high school.

Greg Hardy was a 3 star.

Jamarca Sanford was a 2 star.

McCluster only had one other BCS offer if I recall.

We've had plenty of 4 and 5 stars not turn out to be great, and we've had plenty of others turn out to be really good, but of the 8 players we've had drafted in the past two classes, one was a 5 star out of high school. The other 7 were 2 and 3 stars. That's also three 2 star NFL draft picks for us in 2 years. I realize the odds are better in finding NFL talent in the 4 and 5 star pools, but I don't discount 2 star players given some of the ones we've had.

Maybe last year, but not necessarily 2008.

We went to Wake Forest, national champion Florida, BCS bowl/West Champion Alabama, Fayetteville (where we usually get destroyed), and LSU.

We also had AU, SC, Vandy, and MSU at home.

If the schedule hid us being weak, how do you explain our dismantling of 11-1 Texas Tech.

What's so funny is that OM fans are ALREADY declaring Nutt's recruiting better than Orgeron's, when Nutt's guys largely haven't even taken the field yet.

It's true that we don't know yet, and that they <span style="font-style: italic;">could</span> be better classes. But what we do know is that Orgeron recruited the best talent the school has ever seen in a 3 year period, and it's awful presumptious to assume Nutt's classes can match that when they haven't played significant roles yet.

Not only did OM have 8 players drafted the past two years, but that list doesn't include some really good players that are borderline NFL guys like Snead, Hodge, Trahan, Green, Tillman, Palmer, Fein, etc...Those are some really good players that didn't get drafted.

On top of that, Orgeron still has multiple guys still contributing that have draft potential like Powe, Locket, Scott, Laurent, Armour, Walker, Cornell, Johnson, etc...

And like you guys are pointing out, a lot of those guys that were drafted weren't highly recruited, which goes to show how good of an evaluator Orgeron is. It's going to be hard to duplicate turning that many 2 and 3 star players into All SEC players.

So Nutt only has a three year body of work in the SEC? Who knew?

atually i think they are relevant......you should be asking how is that devil yancy porter influencing rivals? i mean after all the rankings of all our current committs are higher on rivals than scout. most ole miss folks are whining that scout is underrating our kids. LOL. i doubt yancy has more juice with scout than the other "scouts"..except maybe rosebowl...his credibility is pretty much zilch all over. LOL

It remains to be seen though if he can recruit to OM like he did to Arkansas, and I'd put Orgeron's 3 year run of senior classes in 08, 09, and 10 against any 3 year run Nutt had at Arkansas and probably. If OM has 4-6 players drafted off of this year's team that would give O a better 3 year run that Nutt ever had at Ark.

Would you agree that history has shown in the last 30 years that it's a little easier to win at, and therefore to recruit to Arkansas as compared with OM?

At any rate, I hear Bruiser talk about how this might be a slightly down year, but that OM will be back to being really good in 2011 or 2012. Where does that conclusion come from? From the players that haven't proven anything yet? From the fact that <span style="text-decoration: underline;">OM will lose 10 of their top 12 or 13 players on defense after 2010, </span>which should make for a possibly even rougher 2011?

Maybe not necessarily in 2008 but possibly (down year in the SEC,especially the west). Certainly in 09 and 10. Its the smart thing to do and I'm not knocking it, especially when rebuilding. I would say that probably half of the SEC teams that year would have beaten Texas Tech.

If you don't think a manageable schedule is important that we'll just disagree on the matter.

I agree, a manageable schedule is important, and we're a combination of lucky and good in terms of our scheduling this fall. Due to the shake out of the rotation and who will be down this year, we draw probably the weakest 3 East teams, sort of like the shake out of your 1999 schedule rotation. Plus, we have our toughest OOC test against Fresno, which is the part we controlled.

That part is partically thanks to Nutt by the way. We were supposed to be playing Georgia Tech this year and next. However, he had that series pushed out until something like 2019.

This is dead on, 100% correct. Sports media here is as close to a state-run media outlet as we'll ever see in the United States. It is scary.

P.S.Will you do me a favor,Big D? Check with John Smith and ask him to look at his "Seer Stones." I would like to know howour team is going to do this year.

And by the way, Jesus doesn't care what type of underwear you wear, idiot.

Big D, I am going to show you how not to be a sheep. Here goes...

That guy is a douchbag. Yes, he is an Ole Miss fan. Yes, he cheers for my team. Yes, Ole Miss has fans that are ridicolous. But we also have rational fans just like State has rational fans. You see? That wasn't hard for me to type at all. Maybe you can learn to not be such a jerkoff and realize that every college has good fans and bad ones. To be honest, I think you would fit in with the Gene's Page posters a lot more than you fit in here.

I'll leave you with alikeness of your "Prophet" looking at "Seer Stones."
