Ole Miss's expansion looks pretty good...

Without much goggling, aren't we both aiming to raise $150 mill?

I know our football offices will be $25mill. and I remember seeing somewhere our stadium expansion is estimated at $120 mill.

OM is spending $70 mill on the arena which would seemingly leave $80 mill for the expansion (which is essentially the same).

What am I missing? Also didn't Auburns new arena cost $90-100 mill? Its nice, but doesn't blow me away. How does OM plan on doing a "state of the art" facility for $20 mill less than Auburn?

to the situation the local news was reporting here in BHamlast year. All sorts of road construction projects were suddenly being expanded because the budgeted monies were buying lots and lots more materials. They specifically mentioned asphalt. Haven't heard a recent update, though.

Not sure but I thought the first phase along the North End Zone was like 75Mil. I don't remember exactly.

One thing to remember renderings are always, always, nice than the real thing. It's real easy to makevirtual brick, pre-cast concrete, glass etc.. in the computer but a lot harder to pay for them in real life.

It will be ten years before they do anything to the Football stadium. They are going to raise the money first. Build the new Basketball stadium second.Do theyknow what the cost for the Basketball stadium is going to be? Will it be the same cost when they start?The football expansion is all smoke and mirrors for now. (It will happen but it is way out in the future). The two reasons they are throwing football in the mix is to get the contributors to donate and to attempt to deflate Miss State. Think about it. Ole Miss has sucked in basketball for years now and the tad pad is never full. The average Ole Miss fan don't give a **** about Ole Miss basketball unless they are really good. Football is king in Oxford. They would never be able to raise money for basketball by it self.They had to throw football in there to get the fan base motivated. The second reason is to get the heat off their asscoming fromthe Miss State PR campaign that has been going on since LT left. You know it chaps their *** every time they see one of those bill boards. You know it chaps their *** to get beat two years in a row with a third coming. You know it chaps their *** when Miss State gets all the hype. That's why they hated JWS and that is why they hate Mullen. They say thatState really don't matter and LSU is their rivalry but we all know that is bull ****. We know it is bull **** just by the way they act in public. The things they say when they call into radio shows and by the post we see here on the Pack. Sure LSU is a rival to them but MSU is just as big. Just my opinion!

The price index in GA for apshalt (DOT numbers per ton) for July of the 06 was 385$'s, July 07 @ 313$'s, July 08 @ 583$'s (peak of previous oile spike), July 09 @ 363$'s, July2010 @ 478$'s, and July 2011 @ 605$'s.

So take 06 which was a good year for construction Asphalt was a lot cheaper than it is now. Of course this is one of the underlying factors of why the economy is so bad right now for Construction. Even if businesses wanted to expandnow it costs more than in recent years. Copper prices peaked in 07ish at the height of the building boom and then dipped with the recession but now are up a good bit higher than 07. The demand for copper isn't coming from construction.

I'm sure this has all been taken into count by the estimators. But raising money quicker will always be a good thing.

I wish we would do that, build in the price of basketball tickets with the tuition costs. I'm fine with having an additional charge for football student tickets, because it gives kids the opportunity to reserve their ticket rather than having to fight for it in long lines each game if it's a big one, but for every other sport, I like the idea of rolling it into an activity fee.

Instead, we recently added baseball to the list of sports we charge extra for students. Increase the activity fee if the demand for those have increased, but let the students in for "free".

Just my opinion on the topic. For my thoughts on the renderings, I really like the look of the basketball arena. I think they did about perfect on that.

On the football stadium, I like that we're doing a lot of facade work and we're going to mirror the SEZ. I think for both Ole Miss and MSU, the ultimate top out number is going to be in the 70,000s some day. Unless the state or the schools experience a HUGE growth in the future, 70K up to maybe close to 80K will be the top out number for both. With that in mind, I would assume that any future expansion we have after this would be on the sidelines. We could always come back and add either an upper deck or more suites to match the North and South. I would guess that there will be a day when the East side Club is entirely replaced by a new club to match the others, or it's expanded or added onto. Outside of those possible future expansions/renovations, I don't think we'll see a whole lot of major work on our stadium after this.

For the record, I like the look of your long term expansion. Both of our stadiums needed facade work, and your plan looks really good for a final expansion plan both in terms of the exterior and the overall plan of the seating.

Tons of high school gyms make use of a translucent panel for glazing. www.kallwall.com. Looks great in the beginning, bleaches to a terrible looking yellow after a few years. If you want to see this product, go to a mall built in the 90's and look at their skylights.<div>
</div><div>Still this would be great use of natural light. The only downside is that the glare, even from translucent panels will make the seating area appear very dark during the day.</div>

20 years down the road. That's why I thought comparing what's in the near future for both was more direct. Ours is rumored to be done by 2014.

But Stricklin made a great point - 25 years ago we had a 32,000 seat stadium. Now, we have a stadium that can seat 57-58K. 20-25 years from now - why can't we have 80K. And with the alumni base growing b/c we have a much bigger school, it seems like a definite reality (Ole Miss is in the same boat assuming they want to continue growing).

Bruiser... We have finally fixed this problem. This year student tickets for football will be $150, but that includes free basketball and
baseball admittance. Knowing we will pay anything for football tickets, it's a smart move

Damn - that's almost as much as a regular season ticket. Aren't your season tickets around $300?

They were $70. They've gone up slowly since then and I think last year they were $100. You could buy a all season pass for like $175 last year that included all the sports, but everyone just bought the football only tickets. This is a much better idea. I think when we do expand we'll drop student ticket prices so we can have 10-12k seats already taken care of. Y'all have 11 mil at what $20 for season tickets? We'd probably need to do that too when we expand

but the student activity fee is like $200. The football tickets have gone up in the past few years. The activity fee also gives you free admission into the student rec center which is a deal in and of itself.

We all know they suck at basketball ball, but seems like you at least go to 13,000 or 14,000, especially if they are going to use it for other events.
They might actually have a good team in 20 years and need the seats...

On August 22nd, any unsold tickets in a certain classification will be opened for availability to purchase by any eligible student. There is a maximum of one student ticket per student. Students will be allowed free admission for Men’s Basketball and Baseball for the 2011 & 2012 seasons.</font></font>

around 80k ought to be a goal for both of us and about tops in numbers. who knows what the future holds but i just don't see msu or ole miss needed 90-100k seating.....ever. i do think designing what you're doing now with the long term in mind is a good plan. i would like to think we're doing that and based on the new drawings it seems to me if we ever need to we can add another 10k or so to what they are planning now.

side question. your old AD (geez i'm getting old, i'm blank on the ninja's name) got things moving from msu. how are you guys liking stricklin? is he adding to what was started?

and I am liking Stricklin. I think he is doing a great job. To me, he is actually better in a public setting than Byrne. He is a more eloquent speaker. And I thought Byrne did great as well.

to tear down the old press box and add luxury suites and/or an upper deck in 15-20 years or so to get your capacity to 80K. And I think the drawing of the 80K Davis Wade 20 years from now is freaking incredible.

However, and this is not even bias, I do like the renderings for the new DWS more. The reason I like the more is the brick work. It reminds me a lot of The Ballpark in Arlington (Texas Rangers) a place I spent a lot of time as a kid. Also, the football stadium is still mixmatched and doesn't look uniform. The arena is pretty cool though, and definitely needed. Part of me likes everything about it and the other part doesn't care too much for the windows, but that's just me...
