Early potential names include Oliver Luck, Bernard Muir, Gloria Nevarez, Burke Magnus, Dan Radakovich and Gene Smith.

Luck will be interviewed but doesn't mean he will be hired.

He checks all the boxes for people I guess.
Fits in with the people at Stanford as well.
Wouldn't be surprised if it was him. Condi Rice is another. I guess some people want a POC or a female. She checks both boxes.

Hope not, sincerely hope not.

His business sence, only seemed to help his ambition.
Like Oliver as a player,
not so much as an AD , not so much as
an administrator.

It could force USC to the Big 12.

For West Virginia msg board to suggest such a move - further 2000 miles west is misleading and foolish -
from WVU perspective.

Wvu should shop for another conference to join, But WVU can't move because there are not another conference to move to.

Makes b12 subservient to Pac12.

No way USC Moves from west coast.

Sorry

Luck becoming the commissioner of the PAC 12 doesn't change much unless he is very good at his job and can get the important universities to think like him.

These universities behave like corporations/nations. They do what is best for them

Whatever that is.

More than that the commissioner is a figurehead. They lack real power without the backing of these individual universities.

The problem with the PAC 12 is Stanford. Every move made by Larry Scott was the directive of Stanford.
Stanford is still there thinking the same way they always have.

Regarding WVU. They are going to do what is best for them.
None of these conferences really fit a geographical pattern anymore.
That era is over and will never come back. The chance of getting more so is a lot more the case.

Maybe this year they can take a step up in football
How many universities are Top 15 in Football, Basketball and Baseball?
Entering elite company

I wasn’t on here guaranteeing that USC would (I’m not from Texas either).

Big 12 has to make a move and something will happen.

Basically because of the SEC and their new first tier rights contract with ESPN.

Texas and Oklahoma have to compete with the SEC. Mainly the West. LSU, Bama and A&M have a huge payday coming.

Like I said this has nothing to do with Oliver Luck.
Will Luck come in and change the third tier rights in the PAC 12 isn't known. I don't have inside knowledge on how most of those schools feel about their conference network outside of USC.

I do know USC thinks they can make more money if they owned their third tier rights and could negotiate the contract themselves.
Their best hope is to do this in the PAC 12.

Oliver Luck is highly regarded in sports management circles. Will be very interesting if he moves over to the PAC 12, if not won't be surprised to see him step into the BIG 12 leadership role in 2026 when Bowlsby retires.

One good thing about Luck is he cares about WVU, with conference realignment on the horizon he is more likely to make moves that don't harm WVU in any way.

Hope he ends up back in the BIG 12 in a few years as the BIG 12 absorbs some of the PAC schools in their new deals.

I not soooo sure,
Oliver Luck doesn't care about
West Virginia, -- as we wish he did.
..

If he really cared about the people of West Virginia vs a "Hired Gun"
(so to speak), he wouldn't have destroyed WVU's Bill Stewart and Co and Hired "Pretty Boy" - hiring A drunk.

As an administrator,
I don't think his head is in
the right spot, as we wish he did.

Cleveland's Oliver Luck.

Working for XFL was a money grab.
Then Oliver Luck sued the XFL when XFL WENT Defunked - Some Comish.
Commissioner.
(His job was to make XFL Survive).

I heard "they" created a spot in Indianapolis with the NCAA to get rid of Luck as the WVU AD ---
THAT'S what I heard.

Yep ...

Anyother discussion is stupid,
Especially with pac12.
Any hope of WVU EVER getting into the Asheshe died when the Conference was founded in the 1950's out of the old SoCon schools. Even Fast Eddie waving bye bye from the dock as the Asheshe sailed away with BC, VPLIes, and Cryami would not have changed anything back in 03. When sPitt and Suckacuse jumped out of the crashing Big East plane, Ollie grabbed the last parachute to get us onto the only island left...the Big XII. Would I rather be in a conference with State Penn, Rutgers, sPitt, and VPLIes??? Yes, but reality is reality and we need to accept that fact. Otherwise, those who think the Asheshe will take us are as delusional as Marshall fans thinking they will end up the the AAC.

Rumors of him being in San Francisco today and his name is being linked in articles
I say disadvantage for WVU if Luck is PAC commish. If he does, he'll never be commish of another conference. I'd rather he wait and see if another conference commish job comes open that is not the PAC and he gets us in. Granted, that's a lot of unlikely dominoes to fall

SEC and B1G aren't happening
Getting WVU into the ACC won't help because you still have the financial situation in the conference.
Their haphazard expansion won't work unless they can force ND into being their 15th full member.
I don't think ND Football is willing to budge because it doesn't make financial sense.

Anyone who isn't in the B1G/SEC is in the same boat right now regardless of conference affiliation..
The question becomes creating a third conference that is financially viable. More than that showing that WVU belongs.

Both the PAC and ACC collapsing makes this happen.
Maybe Luck can be the Trojan Horse to get the Trojans...

It could force USC to the Big 12.

Not to burst your bubble, but as a LA resident since 2000, I have not heard even one rumor about USC , or UCLA, leaving the P12. What USC wants is to get a coach who can keep all the SC talent at home and return it to the playoffs. SoCal has the second most 5* HS players year in and year out (second only to Texas). But the last couple of USC coaches have allowed most of that talent to escape North (Oregon and Washington) and East (UT, ASU & UofA). if USC ever gets a coach like NB -- one who can keep the local talent at home -- then it will be once again challenging the SEC for national prominence. There is no talk about it leaving the P12.

Ditto for the two Arizona schools. I lived there from '86 to 2000, and both my kids still live there (ASU grads). None of us has heard anything about either AZ school leaving for the B12. In fact, both schools are tied at the hip to SoCal in recruiting both athletes and students. The only P12 schools who may consider leaving are the two in the NE sector (Utah and CU). So, in short, we need to stop dreaming about USC and UCLA jumping to the B12, and start worrying about how to keep UT and OU from doing just the opposite.

For the second time (some people need to keep up) I was hardening back to a troll making that claim . Not my idea.

If I was giving out my college football dream conference lineup, it would not include WVU in the same conference with any school west of the Mississippi.

Here are some articles both more recent and a couple of years back:

Could the Big 12 poach Arizona State, USC, Oregon, Washington, UCLA, Arizona from Pac-12?

Staples: Now’s the time, Big 12, to go after the Pac-12’s biggest and best

Here, per Staples, the picks from the Pac-12 would be USC, UCLA, Oregon, Washington, Arizona and Arizona State

West: Washington, Oregon, USC, UCLA, Arizona, ASU, Kansas, Kansas State.

East: Texas, Texas Tech, TCU, Baylor, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Iowa State, West Virginia.

Neuheisel: UCLA Should Be Interested In Big 12

You have your head in the sand then

The biggest issue in the PAC 12 is third tier rights

This is where the problem starts
The reason why Texas and OU didn't join the PAC 12 was because Stanford said no to Texas in regards to the LHN.

So if USC gets third tier rights the question becomes what happens then.

Texas and OU as of right now could be the ones in power.
Mainly because of where the conference is at. There is an advantage to only having 10 compared to 12 or 15.

There isn't a single school that has a dream conference.
Pragmatic thinking is what works here.

Because no one will ever have a perfect conference. Too many moving parts especially because TV networks control a lot of conference realignment now

All in all,
this pac12/b12 "bullCrap"--
you all are NOT considering
if b12 goes west - the b12 could sacrifice WVU for USC
(in other words, b12 would or could jettison west virginia
while trading or transferring to Pac12).

The stupidity OF THIS pipedream,
(from West Virginia perspective)
is epic.

Nope...Lyons is much better...

Oliver was a hired gun. And a short timer.

Sorry bro, your entitled to your opinion but Oliver Luck was arguably the worst AD in WVU history- Luck's style or "style type" is not suitable for WVU family atmosphere.

Clemmons, Don Nehlen
got wvu into b12.

Drink up, but this discussion is centered around Oliver Luck being the pac12 commissioner - which is supposed to be good for WVU.

No way moving to the west coast is good for WV, WVU or the state of
West Virginia.

Wonder if using all Caps is good for emphasis.

ALL CAPS
in Capitol letters. ALL CAPs...

Wonder is using ALL CAPs
make this discussion more accurate, more CREDIBLE?

The chances of WVU being " jettisoned" by the BIG 12= 0.

The chances of WVU surviving in major sports if the BIG 12 is one day blown up due to inaction in the face of having to majorly increase each schools revenues in the next negotiation that will happen by 2023? Not great.

WVU would be enhanced tremendously and gain tremendous exposure by being in conference with schools such as UCLA, USC, Texas, OU. It would be an amazing development that would bear fruits for decades to come.

Travel details can always be worked out. You cant repair not being part of a major conference.

Oliver Luck was the best AD WVU has had, at least in the modern era. His wor secured WVUs future for years to come in major athletics. Without his hard work WVU would be in the AAC or worse.

If something happened the Big 12 would look to split teams and exploit the rivalries.

USC and most likely Arizona State.
But UCLA, Arizona are in play.
Possibly Utah, BYU or Colorado.

Position the conference between Texas and California.
Schools can recruit talent in both states.

But you will then possibly help Western Football by bringing in another Power Conference.
The Territorial Cup is a heated rivarly.
Just imagine if Arizona State and Arizona are in difference conferences.

Hopefully people in the PAC can see this.

Pac-12 for WVU would be a route to disappearing from the college scene. Maybe it's the time difference but Pac-12 teams rarely get the attention of Big 12, Big 10 or SEC. I thank God every day that Oliver Luck, with his Texas, etc. connections, got my alma mater into the Big 12 during the conference realignment. Otherwise we'd be in the same sad shape at UConn, Cincy & other former Big Easters who became Big Leasters. Hooray for Oliver Luck. Best WVU AD in my lifetime along with Fred Schaus!

Paragraph 4 foolish, sorry.

I imagine that every person here that think travel to Los Angeles or other west coast schools on a regular basis,

have NEVER Traveled to California or Washington State and impact of such travel or cost.

Ps...adding a West coast programs
will make WVU vulnerable.
Oliver -- not impressed.

WVU is not made "vulnerable" by the BIG 12 adding west coast programs. WVU is "vulnerable" if the conference fails to ensure progress in financial growth and exposure for its members.

The conference would be well served to add brands like UCLA and USC to bolster everyones futures if that becomes possibe. Change such as this may be necessary to ensure the conference and WVUs future athletic success and schedules need not be as problematic as you pretend.

In a 9 game football schedule WVU might meet one west coast team a season, every other year at home.

Basketball already flies all over the country for games, a few games a year further west wont change the current situation much.

Other sports could be worked out with more regional tournaments rather than coast to coast play.
