Wondering to myself why they bothered having the Olympic teams parade into the stadium, excitedly waving to empty stands. Also wondering why I spent two hours last night watching it.

And as a fan of equal opportunity for all individuals, I look forward to the female athletes getting equal time walking in shirtless and covered in oil from the waist up, and the on-air personalities' positive comments about it.

What are thoughts on the opening ceremony?

I thought the emoji thing was kinda cool and made me laugh. I’ve also enjoyed the drones the last few times. I think drone shows will get more and more elaborate going forward.
Seemed pretty similar to all the other ones I’ve ever watched but wasn’t paying very close attention.

Greatest gymnast of all time my ***..
lol yeah I laughed after they talk him up and as she's midsentance saying "you can't win today, you just have to make sure you don't do something to lose" dude hits the mat.

Rings routine in men's gymnastics is one of the most impressive athletic feats you'll see. Just remarkable strength required.

2 thoughts so far:
If I tried 3x3 basketball, I'd have a heart attack in about 2 minutes. I've watched some before but this is super quick.

Watching women's beach volleyball. I've tucked dollar bills into more modest bottoms than they're wearing.

Michael Phelps as a swimming analyst. Poor guy can hardly talk.

1-2 US finish in 400 IM. That’ll do. What a grueling race. I did it once (100 IM) in a little ****** 25m pool back in the days of neighborhood swim teams. I’m still out of breath.

Seriously. The best I've ever done in a session was 1200m.. and legitimately, the last 1000m felt like drowning.. I can't even imagine trying to race more than the 50m.

Olympic swimmers are amazing. The amount of mileage they do daily is staggering. Then when you think about the monotony of it, I don’t know how they do it. At least with running you get a view. Truly dedicated athletes

I can’t imagine cities wanting the games after this. No tourists to offset the expense is brutal. I know some will but I think they just hold the summer in Athens every time. Make winter a permanent location in Switzerland and call it good.
Mostly agree. What’s sad is many of these sporting venues don’t get used after the games are over, become decrepit and then become eyesores, eventually requiring more money to tear down.

The 94 Winter games in Norway were awesome. I remember thousands of fans cheering for cross-country skiing! I would suggest Norway as an alternate permanent site for the winter games but Switzerland is also a good choice.
