Against the 83rd and 85th ranked rushing teams in the country, respectively.
ETA: alabama put up 168 rushing yards on your defense and all but quit rushing the ball in the second half. You are a fool if you think you guys are gonna hold LSU under 100 yards rushing.
Did you watch our scheme against Bama? We kept 6 in the box all game and dared them to beat us on the ground with only 6 in the box. They did when they went with heavy sets against 6 in the box. Congrats to them for being able to run with a numbers advantage against a defense that was willing to give them that numbers advantage.
Bottom line, Wommack felt like Bama couldn't sustain drives on our defense with us playing them straight up. He felt they needed big plays in the passing game in order to beat us. They couldn't get many of those, and they ended up with 10 offensive points because we made them drive the length of the field, and eventually on every drive, we would get a negative play and force Sims to beat us, which he couldn't.
LSU is MUCH less of a passing threat than Bama, meaning we could choose to commit more to the run, if we want. We may just stick with 6 in the box though and play them straight up too, but they won't be scoring much, if any.
Bottom line, you're using an example of a better offense scoring only 10 points on us as a reason that LSU will beat us. That's just wishful thinking. If LSU is going to have a chance Saturday, they'll need the special teams/defense to spot them 14 points, or at least set up 14 points for them, and they'll need their defense to play really well.
Our offense isn't very good running the football. There is no denying that, but we have a very productive vertical passing game when we choose to deploy it, and our ground game will occasionally pick up chunks. At times, we've held it back (A&M and UT) simply to play conservative and take the win.
The Vegas line is a little surprising, but much like the line you had when you went to Baton Rouge, I would load up betting against LSU and then throw yourself a party with your winnings. We'll have to give the game to LSU for them to win.
