The main thing OM needs to worry about in this game is that the odds makers only made them a 3 point favorite. This has all the ear markings of a sucker bet. Usually when a line is so obviously wrong(OM should be a 10pt favorite IMO) there`s a reason that the bookies played it like that. I think it`s going to be very close.

The reason is they know a lot of people are going to bet on LSU at home on Saturday night after they just blew Kentucky out. All they want is half the money on one team and half on the other. Mississippi will win something like 24-10.

This. This isn't a sucker bet so much as it is taking advantage of people who aren't as familiar with the teams as we are just saying "well, lsu should win. It's a home game at night."

The betting lines aren't score predictions... They are where the oddsmakers feel people will bet evenly on both sides of the line. ite all about the money for them.

To the rescue!

Where is the evidence of this good vertical passing game? I think you're right that LSU can't beat UM unless UM screws up, but I also don't think UM is going to score much on LSU other than on short drives that their defense gives them.

The evidence? Right here:

Obviously this is not perfect (a TD of less than 25 yards can still be in the vertical game), but it obviously shows that we have success in our vertical passing game. I see, though, that you later admit to not having seen all of our games, so I'm not sure why you are commenting on it in the first place.

Silly Bear. These were obviously all bubble screens where the receivers picked up huge YAC. Quit trying to fool us with these numbers.**

All I know is that whatever we're doing on offense is working fine.

In the S&P+ ratings (which take into account the opponent unit strengths and eliminate garbage time), our offense is 8th in the country. Yours is No. 1. Our defense is No. 1, and yours is No. 7. If you look at the FEI, which does the same thing with opponent strength and garbage time, our offense actually ranks just ahead of yours (19th vs. 23rd), and your defense ranks right behind ours (7th vs. 8th).

The F/+ ranking combines the two systems. In that ranking, our offense is 13th vs. 10th for you. Your defense is 5th, and ours is 3rd. In the overall team rankings, this is how we stack up.

S&P+ - Ole Miss 2, MSU 3
FEI - Ole Miss 2, MSU 6
F/+ - Ole Miss 1, MSU 2

It's just funny to me that our fans try to act like your defense is slop, and yours try to act like our offense is slop.

The numbers tend to suggest that each of our "weaknesses" aren't really weak at all...and in reality, we probably have 2 of the best teams in college football this year, even if having to deal with your rival having historic level success at the same time you are bugs the crap out of a lot of our fans.

Neither team is perfect, but no team ever is. We're both about as good as you can get though. It doesn't mean we'll both be 11-0 in the Egg Bowl and playing a rematch in the national title game, but that's not a completely unrealistic possibility. I know some of our fans have talked about the 'what if' of those scenarios before, but now that those scenarios have gone from 'never would happen' to 'reasonable chance', fans are freaking out just a little bit, because it's not fun to share the spotlight with your rival.

Throwing out all that stats crap, just looking at both of our teams on the field, what I see is 2 damn good football teams. The game in Oxford might not be the only time we play this season.

Agree. I brought the stats stuff out because a lot of our fans can't see through their red and blue or maroon glasses well enough to be able to see that the "flaws" of their rival aren't really as troublesome as they'd like them to be. The numbers just help you take off the glasses and see the other team for what it is, a really good team. Yes, it's possible we could play twice this year, though I will reserve my opinion on whether I want that to happen until AFTER the Egg Bowl. Obviously, if we win in Oxford, I want you to enjoy your consolation prize of a non-semifinal bowl game with no possibility to see you again. If we lose, then definitely, we both need to be in the playoff together.

It's a long time until the Egg Bowl, and I think for us both to get in, we'd both have to be 11-0 before the Egg Bowl, and I don't believe either of us have a cake walk to that point. I am glad though that of all potentially huge Egg Bowls, we get to have this one at home.

For that reason, I also think you'd have a better chance of losing (if it was close) and still getting a playoff bid at 11-1 simply because the committee would be more likely to argue that on a neutral site you may have been better. We will see. I'm just going to enjoy this season for wherever it takes me and worry about all that if/when the time comes.

Good point. Those LSU guys have been thinking about taking back that Magnolia trophy for a whole year now.

RebelBruiser must be a high school coach or maybe a local high school stat guy. Could possibly even be for a honkie high rather a public school. You use football lingo that you just don't learn from watching ESPN or sitting around jerking off to Freeze press conferences.

Hard to compare stats with only one common opponent. I do know y'all beat A&M by 15 points & scored 2 defensive tds though.

We relied on pick 6s in order to have success under Croom so we feel ya there bud.

Okay, I get that it's easy to come back and punk someone after the fact, but....

...this is just too good....

A quote from Rebel Bruiser: "Bottom line, you're using an example of a better offense scoring only 10 points on us as a reason that LSU will beat us. That's just wishful thinking. If LSU is going to have a chance Saturday, they'll need the special teams/defense to spot them 14 points, or at least set up 14 points for them, and they'll need their defense to play really well."

Uh, Bruise ol' buddy, looks like 10 points was enough after all. Maybe it's because UMISS is one-dimensional on offense, just like we've been suggesting.

Paging Dr. Bruiser.

Oh let me guess, you are writing 2500 words on why the better team lost.

I don't know if y'all are gonna get any lurkers to admit it yet, but I was wrong about OM. I didn't think LSU had a shot. Bought the hype on the elite bearshark defense. I was wrong.

How many times must Bruiser make an *** of himself until he's satisfied?

"State players use steriods."

"I never saw Sowell take a cheap shot on Cherrington- therefore, it doesn't count as a real cheap shot. And if I did see Sowell take a cheap shot, you better believe my morally superior self wouldn't defend him." And if that absurd statement wasn't enough, it was later proven that in fact Bruiser DID see the Sowell cheap shot- then turned right around and defended it when it happened.

"LSU will need special teams or defensive scores to even keep it close."

I actually read on tidefans that they think OM has a better O than us

Would love to see the stats they twisted to make that assumption.
