Can we stop with the ridiculous notion that the next Rutgers head coach must be a Jersey Guy with Jersey Roots who eats Taylor ham egg and cheese off Exit 8 and goes Down The Shore and all of that happy horsesh**? Greg Schiano with Jersey ties couldn't keep Top 20 Jersey recruits leave NJ for OSU, USC, Michigan, etc. Kyle Flood with Jersey ties couldn't keep Jersey recruits from leaving recruits going elsewhere. And Al Golden with Jersey roots was so horrible at Miami, he couldn't keep Miami HS players who grows up to be Miami players from going elsewhere.

If... IF Ash is the new head coach, this would be a grat move for Rutgers if only to finally move away from that Schiano, Flood, Golden stranglehold that has had on Rutgers for years. Sometimes you need fresh eyes and fresh ideas to revitalize this program again and Ash seems to have proven on the field and in the living rooms that he is qualified and ready to go. Here's hoping that Rutgers football will finally turn that corner that Schiano couldnt, Flood didn't know how to, and Golden have no business even being on the corner.

Getting really tired as well about how important the opinions of NJ coaches are on a Rutgers HC hire.
#1 - Most of their best players don't come here now despite having two NJ connected coaches
#2 - If you ever had a kid, you know that parents, not coaches are the decision-makers.

If Ash can recruit, he can recruit anywhere, whether he was born and raised in NJ or not. It's selling a vision, not researching ancestral roots.

BTW, the Main/National Board is taking a moment from their SEC, P12 B1G babble to give Rutgers a standing O for this hire.

Nonsense with the hiring a Jersey guy. It has never worked and is a flawed idea. We need a great, young coach that wants to go somewhere else down the road. We are a stepping stone program, as Schiano and his staff defections during the years pointed out. Once we get to the top we can get a big name....until then...

I will say this as slowly as possible so the brain dead can understand.

TICO-----The name of the state is New Jersey---it is one of the wealthiest states in the nation--it has one of the highest education levels in the nation--it has one of the lowest poverty rates in the nation--it has one of the best school systems in the nation--it is home to some of the best High School talent in the U.S in Football, Basketball, Wrestling, Girls Soccer, Boys Soccer, Field Hockey and so on.

If you cannot recruit the elite in New Jersey you will not be able to recruit Florida, PA and NY.

When the elite players from NJ start to end up at Rutgers, players from Florida and PA will take notice.

I want 10 of the top 20 players from NJ--5 of the top 20 from Pennsylvania and 5 of the top 100 from Florida.

Recruiting NJ is the top priority!!!

Hopefully Ash can sell Rutgers to the HS players of NJ with his vision to make this team a top 25 program.

My stupid, brain dead *** would like to ask you this:

Who did you want? Schiano and/or Golden?

If this is correct, my stupid can read and see that Greg Schiano couldnt recruit your "elite players to stay in NJ." And Al Golden couldn't recruit elite Miami players to go to Miami when all you have to do is breathe.

Actually, I think it's the other way around. When the elite NJ kids start getting shut out of RU after we've had success with Midwestern, Southern, and Florida players, those elite NJ players, the parents, the coaches, and the know it all hanger ons in the camps and strength and conditioning gyms will start seeing Rutgers as a viable option and with any luck will start whining about being shut out.

Then we add top NJ players to our new BIG recruiting footprint and start competing for BIG titles and NCs on a regular basis.

I think we have to grab the top character and academic HS players from the rural backwaters first. Kids who maybe want to get out of Mississippi or Western PA, or who were passed over by their own state schools like Ohio State or Iowa. Or simply kids who want to get away from home for awhile. That's where we start. And that's what Ash might be bringing to the table.
