Meyer talked yesterday about how this game against Rutgers will be an opportunity
to show the nation that the Buckeyes are moving from good to great and will make a strong impression on the voters in the first final four poll that comes out in two weeks. He sees this game as a statement game that will take the team to the next level and get them ready to peak in November.

In other words, this team will play at full throttle this Saturday, and they will take no prisoners as they try to run up the score.

Let's hope that Flood has a plan, or it ain't going to be pretty.

Was thinking this is the time where score differentials can make a statement and they might want to take advantage of that. Hopefully we match their intensity from the outset

More Bologna from "Oscar" Meyer. Let's send him back to Columbus in tears after his team's "statement game," so affected by their performance that he is pressured to change his legal name to "Rural" Meyer.

One way to keep the score lower ... Physically take out some of their starters ... Ankle, concussion, step on their fingers :)

The number of times we got hands on the QB vs Indiana and did not take him down... that will be 20-40 yard runs by Barrett if we do not wrap.

On the other hand, our guys can hit.. Barrett may over-reach and get knocked out.

We need to win the turnover battle.. and play perfectly otherwise. And I fear our short out patterns... we need more zip on those or we will see pick sixes the other way.

14 undefeated teams in top 25, and that may not change this weekend. If OSU game is anywhere near as close as the MSU game at any point, they will lose #1 votes. If RU can keep this from being a showcase game for OSU and play 4 tough quarters I will be happy. OSU is going to make big plays. I want to see RU bounce back.

Noticed that too in the Indy game - about getting hands close to or on Sudfield, but not bringing him down. Perhaps Turay is not 100%.

No excuses. I like that. Hopefully RU will come out and punch them in the face.

Do you have a link for this? I've heard reporters ask Meyer nearly every week if this will be a "statement" game, and he has always refrained from using that word. Would be surprised if he explicitly said that or mentioned polls.

How about a power failure at the end of the first 6 minutes of play?

Between Barrett trying to impress and Meyer feeling they need to make a statement I'm hoping maybe that will be pressing a bit. Combined with an electric atmosphere maybe we can get a jump on them early.

"I think it was just my mindset," Barrett said. "The first few weeks I was trying to make plays, trying to make plays and I was trying to force it. With that, just asking for bad things to happen when you try to force things instead of letting the game come to you."

"Being that I wasn't starting and then it comes to a game I want to make a play, want to make a play," Barrett said. "That's how forcing it came along. Now I just come to games and execute the play that I have and big plays come out of that."

Here's the bullets from the presser. I can't watch the video at work, but you can see for yourselves.

Probably the closest:
  • "We gotta put one all together. What's next is a complete game, a dominant performance. We haven't had that yet."
  • "Right now, we're very good. The next few weeks we have to be exceptional."

Yeah so he never said anything about impressing voters or this being a statement game. He knows that puts a team in the wrong mindset. 9 units strong. That's all they can control.

Make no mistake about it Urban Meyer is a great college football coach...not sure nor do I care about his personal life and past issues with arrests of players ....academic issues and innuendo and rumors about his family life...having said this , Urban is a master of psychology and gamesmanship...we need our Rutgers program to one up the King himself on saturday night ...not sure how but it CAN BE DONE.....He has done everything so far which shows how little respect they do have ....he can't remember any of our player's names ...he now has his right QB......I'm sure it's worse inside the Ohio State locker room and yes we get it...Rutgers and Laviano need a game like when Flutie and BC used a last second Hail Mary pass to win against another disrespectful team...I know our Rutgers fanbase will show up in top form...We are due to pull off a huge upset contrary to what any if not most think...Go Rutgers!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately, tOSU will not be looking past us to a big game. We will have their full attention. You want a measuring stick? This game is it.

I noticed OSU ran a reverse while up 31-10 over PSU with about 5 minutes left in the game so I do think Meyer will be going for style points.

I have been saying this all week long. People are under the impression that OSU thinks this is a cakewalk, light work. That's not the mindset.. they are on a MISSION. Meyer knows how many eyeballs will be on this game. He knows how many NJ kids are watching this game Saturday. If OSU wins by less than 3 tds, it's basically still a loss. He wants to crush the hopes of there ever being a chance that RU could compete with them someday. He wants to grind us into a fine powder and toss us into the wind in front of a primetime NATIONAL audience. When the game is over he wants people to say "I know it was only Rutgers... but HOLY SH*T that got ugly." And no, dont be surprised if he tries to run up the score as much as he possibly can just to make a statement.

I'm ready :boxing:
