This time around he'd see this is not a dead end job and that you can win a fair amount of games here. Couple that with the frustration he probably feels at Boise's always "outside looking in" situation and I think we'd have a shot.

I don't think it would be very difficult to transition from Dan's offense to his other than the typical new offense stuff- terminology, etc.

Anyone else think he would love to take a shot at beating Houston Nutt's *** every year?

He could keep Manny hopefully, and maybe even promote Hudspeth to OC.

And as far as recruiting, he knows Arkansas, and he knows Alabama and Georgia. He keeps our guys that know Mississippi.

My second nominee is Bobby Hall.

Wilson really all but denounced the MSU coaching job to stay at Oklahoma. I find that funny as crap, but him "not just hoping on the first opportunity" was a misplaced and arrogant comment at the time. In truth, Wilson may have missed his best opportunities. Maybe he is the life-long coordinator.

Malzahn comes across, to me, the same way. Maybe he is a little more "aw shucks", but I doubt it. I see him cashing his chips big time, and I hope Vandy is not holding out hope of getting him.

Yes, he has done a good job as a D coordinator, but why does everyone seem to think he is head coach material?
Just asking.

but I don't think he fits our personnel right now. We need a spread coach. We're never going to be able to line up in the I like Croom and just pound people that way. We need to spread them out, try to clear out the box and beat them that way. We have pounded teams the last 2 years because we outnumbered them inthe box with a running QB/Dixon and some misdirection. Malzhan can come in with the guys we have and make it work. I don't know how good he is at developing QB's,certainly not as good as Mullen, but Malzhan would be a pretty good hire. Kevin Sumlin is also a guy I like, but he doesn't like to run the ball as much for my taste.I don't know who the OC is at Oregon, but I would give that guy a call too.

& I'm just not yet convinced that he is qualified to behanded the keys to our future.

In Mullens case, he had been around several ongoing winning programs, andlooked ready to go.

The thing about football in Mississippi is that you have a lot of talent, but a small population. What happens because of that is you may have a year where there are a lot of backs, a year where there are a lot of WR's- like this year, and you may have a year where there are better QB's than others- like a couple of years ago where you had Tyler, Chris Garrett, and Clayton Moore.

We just need a coach that can:

A. Bring in the best talent available.

B. Be flexible enough to adapt his offense/defense around whatever players we have.

Back in the day when everyone else was running the wishbone and I-formation in Mississippi, it was a lot harder to find WR's, and QB's, and etc. What is happening now, is you are seeing more and more high schools in Mississippi going to spread offenses and offenses that are much more sophisticated than before. You are seeing more and more teams throw the ball more than ever. That means that we may see more and more WR's and QB's than ever before. For example- a guy like Tobias Singleton may have been a RB in the past. Same for a guy like Nick Brassell. These high school coaches are wanting to get these players in space so that they can use their athleticism.

Remember- Jackie Sherrill was also able to line up and run over people, and he did it for years at MSU. Croom sucked. There is no two ways about it. He was a bad coach, and honestly if he had used a different offense, it still would have sucked.

It's all going to depend on what kind of a QB we have. If we have Chris Relf and not as many WR's, we will run it more. If we have Tyler Russell and a bunch of good WR's, we will throw it more. And that's not to say that we will totally abandon the run or the pass either. But we have to be flexible because we can't count on the state of Mississippi to have a group of WR's like this every year, or QB's like we had three years ago, or an AD every year where we can get someone that could run over people.

semi-pun intended. The reason Peterson beats down on most teams in his league is bc they hetter players and are better coached. We're never gonna out athlete Bama, LSU, Auburn on a consistent basis. He beat VT, Oklahoma, etc. bc of fluke plays and better discipline, heart, not bc his players or sheme were better. To win here, you have to have a cutting-edge offensive coach that is gonna do some things differently than than what teams normally see. I just don't see Peterson being that flexible. He likes the 2 WR's, TE, I formation offense a whole lot. And has had to have a QB that completes ab 70% of his passes to be a good offense. We can use the athletes we can get in this state in the spread more effectively. Get more guys involved bc of the need to rotate, get multiple RB's the ball, nobody has to be the go-to guy. To be honest, the Jackie teams that were great, are not the norm here. Those offensive lines were just massive and we had a stable of able runners, but we never had a great offense. Our defense is what won us a lot of games in spite of our O. </p>

We'd never miss a beat and keep Diaz and Hudspeth, if they'll stay. Hell, we've got half his team now and he could bring the rest with him.
