Once again, I need the wisdom of SPS.

You guys helped me tremendously some 18 months ago as I negotiated a defecation at the ex's house policy. The wisdom of Six Pack helped then and is needed again. Here's the scenario. I have been dating a tremendous young lady (youth is relative, we are both in our 50s) who is a graduate of our neighbors to the north. She is a huge Rebel fan, long time season ticket holder, and loves her some Grove. I am a State grad and have been attending games since the early 70s. Saturday, I am bringing her to the USM game and she is returning the favor by taking me to their home opener two weeks later. Two questions: 1) what are your ideas for the must-do list while at MSU and 2) what do I need to be doing in order to prepare for my visit to the Grove? Be creative and help out an Old Fat Dog.

Don't wear Maroon and do not ring a cowbell.... I witnessed a poster from this board get his *** beat by 20s or 30s of bear fans on the walk of champions for ringing his. It was brutal.

Hell, I love going to the grove. I won't go inside the stadium, but I've always had a good time in the grove. It's not all it's billed to be, but it's fun. Get really drunk.

As far as Starkville, porch sitting at Bin 612, their food or Restaurant Tyler (their upstairs menu is one of the greatest things I've ever put my eyes on), tailgating to set up your tailgate (always particularly enjoyed the cannon blast), and I know that The Weeks are playing at a fraternity house after the game and will be able to be heard from the west end of the greater junction if you'd like to carry on your tailgate in to the night and listen to some good Mississippi tunes.

Pour her drink in a sippy cup prior to entering Davis Wade. You don't want her slinging drinks if USM manages to score. If she is a true Bear fan no way she's cheering for the Bulldogs. If she does cheer for the Bulldogs dump her own the spot. If she will cheat on her Bear she can't be trusted.

Your proximity to an OM fan in the grove helps. Ignore any obnoxious fans, most will be welcoming. The rivalry is nowhere near as "intense" in the grove as it is online. Find a good place to settle with a tent or a friend's tent, there isn't much to gain by walking through the grove when it's crowded. Bring your own chairs.

I wouldn't ring a cowbell anywhere on the Ole Miss campus until a potential MSU victory has been safely secured and our good fans are beginning to leave.

Be careful planning dates so far in advance. Three weeks is a long *** time. Sounds like she is digging in.

First thing I would do is put that Grooooove date on the "maybe if I can get away from work" list.

For the grove I would make sure to develop a good sore throat and visit your dr so you can be prepared with the good syrup. No over the counter nonsense.
In Starkville I think you should definetly go eat and hang out in the cotton district before going to the junction.

I hung out in the Grove once- for the 2000 Auburn "Tommy Tuberville Returns" game. TUSK and I got there about 10 AM and partied with some friends we met on the old Vent. I had a blast.

Wear neutral clothes- I wore a button-down shirt and my old Millsaps baseball cap. I managed to blend in without selling my soul.

Enjoy the atmosphere. Just because the Grove is overhyped doen't mean it sucks. There are plenty nice people there, and I can see how people who grew up going Groving as kids, partying with Frat Buddies and Sorority Sisters, and meeting and interbreeding with Grove Neighbors, could be considered Special.

The food is overrated. No Grills in the Grove, so everyone brings in catered food like Abners Chicken...probably some excellent cooking off the Grove near some of the buildings off-site.

They're weirdly terrified of not covering their beer cans. You figure that Ole Miss, the home of drunken students and fans, wouldn't care about what anyone thought about them drinking beer, rum and coke, whiskey and water, etc. A good host in the Grove will make sure you have a Coozie to cover your beer with and everything else is in the famous Red Solo Cups.

Seriously, going to Ole Miss games isn't bad. A number of my lifelong friends are UM fans and I go to at least one game a year. Look up the colors of the people they are playing and stay neutral, don't wear red/blue but don't look like you are favoring the other team either. Then when you get to the Grove start drinking and have a good time. Anyone who really says they hate the Grove are just trying way to hard to not have a good time. Last time I went I found myself surrounded by good looking Mississippi women, half drunk, drinking some sort of blackberry moonshine and listening to the band play Dixie. Sorry, but I have to admit it was alright. In my heart I was rooting for them to lose and lose badly, but I just keep my mouth shut. Don't cheer for them or against them. It's an SEC game and even if it is Ole Miss it's a privileged that we get to do stuff like this. Just enjoy it and keep your eye on the ball. This is about getting laid later on....

Pretty much this, I've had a blast at the grove and I've had some pretty ****** experiences at the grove and it's been almost completely dependent on the Ole miss folks I was with. Han gout with good decent sane hosts and you're going to have a good time. Get roped into hanging out with douchebags and you're going to have a **** time regardless if you are home or away.

Wear their normal attire.......a pink polo shirt and khaki pants. You do realize you will have to do a lot of butt sniffing to blend in with the crowd?

This post is the only answer worthy of consideration.
