Better coaching, for sure. Minchey, Baxter, Patterson and Green are above average players and the offensive sets are being executed well. This team has a good deal of upside and will only improve from here - barring injuries.
Imagine if Darby caught that easy TD.
Kentucky is relieved of the dead weight and dysfunction that permeated Stoops later years.
Being rid of Calipari, Barnhart, and Stoops is like having a bunch of demons cast out of the program.

Folks need to stop bashing Stoops. It didn't end how anyone wanted (I'd bet Stoops would say the same), but he gave us some of the best UK football seasons many of us have ever seen. Be upset with how it ended, but acting like he was a failure shows how damn immature or ignorant some of you are.
You don’t see so far issues getting plays called in time. Or poor clock management. Being content with a lead before halftime with time left on the clock to try for more. Love it!!
Both things can be true.
Loved the good years with Stoops, but he left a permanent bad taste in the mouth the way he handled the last few years. Said it then, and I’ll say it now, he sabotaged his legacy. Just the way it is.
But let’s quit focusing on Stoops. That deadbeat is gone, and we MAY have ourselves a legit coach!
Finishing by saying he's a deadbeat shows you don't think much of him at all. Stein aside (I've loved that hire since day 1), acting like Stoops was a failure is simply incorrect. I don't know why some of you have to bash him in order to boost Stein.
And just so some of you know, the vast majority of coaches leave a job because it didn't end how fans wanted it to. Stoops is in that boat, but let's stop acting like that's an anomaly.

I am not bashing Stoops to elevate Stein. I suggested the opposite- let’s forget about Stoops. I only brought him up to reply to your comments. Happy to quit talking about him.
Yup now Pope needs to step up or step off.
Stoops was great till about Covid. After that he got lazy and fell off. His recruiting when he could pay guys was terrible too. His lack of offense killed him in the end.

Kicking that FG was all the difference I needed to see between Stein and Stoops.
Stoops had some success but he should have had more which his why he gets the grief he does. He coached like a scared little girl and had the worst clock management of any coach I have ever seen at his level.
We haven’t had a consistent passing game for 13 years. That was always the thing holding Stoops back.
Yep. If Stoops had been able to put together just a top 40 offense, we routinely would’ve been a 9-10 win team. The defense was always solid. We just couldn’t consistently score.
Against Bama with almost no time on the clock Kentucky ran a play with no time outs and lined up and kicked a field goal as the clock expired. That told me this staff can handle and prepares for those situations.
I think you mean the passing game was the thing Stoops was holding back.
For the record I was/am a Stoops fan as well. He took the program from nothing to something. I made one observation that I see between how Steins teams come ready to play on the first snap that I did not always see with Stoops coached teams. He commented on it multiple times throughout his time here and was constantly mystified with his teams slow starts at times (not always). Stein seems to have that demon exorcised and I am here for it. Great W today for Stein, the program and the future of Kentucky football!
Stoops was fine so long as he had a legit OC....as soon as Coen started the back and forth with NFL....Stoops had no answer for offense and late in his tenure having to get on Scangerello/Bush were disasters.
Seeing good to great coaches (Dabo, Fulmer, Orgeron, Jimbo Fischer, Bobby Bowden, etc...) all had great runs but where at the mercy of top notch assistants that when they left the program took major dips. The only coaches in last few years that were immune to losing assistants were Saban and Urban Meyer. Most of the rest really lean on valiable assistants to carry the load.
Stein will probably always have a handle on offense side of the ball....but he'll likley be in need of top notch defensive staff.
Stoops would have let the disappointment of last week beat us this week.

Wanted Stoops and Cal gone. But id rather them be retired and farting around Lexington than coaching for rival schools.

Yeah, his azz would tighten up like clockwork and I'm convinced it bled over into the players psyche.
Several difference I've noticed. 1. Stein manages time/down /distance at end of half ang game better than Stoops ever did.
2. His offense is not predictable. We could run any play on any down, something NOBODY ever accused Stoops of.
3. We utilize our tightends as recievers instead of " block only" extra linemen. Agian nobody saw much of that from Stoops.
4.An Agressive Killer instinct. Fake punt, passing late with the lead , the kind of risks Stoops never took and squandered leads in at least 2 games a year because of it.

The lifetime contract(made him lazy), divorce/drinking(made him fat) and his flirtation with A&M(killed recruiting) were all nails in his coaching coffin.
Correct. They're comparing the end of that tenure as if it was the entire era.
Im happy as hell with Stein and this win. You don't have to unnecessarily trash stoops to cheer for stein. It really isn't hard
Yeah that A&M debacle was embarrassing. We should have let him go then. At least we got Stein though so it worked out. I like our future. I hope we continue to improve and lock Stein down long term.
Stoops did a great job getting UK not just to respectability but to relevance in the SEC. The man had a huge albatross around his neck when he took over the program from Joker Phillips (yes that's who our coach was, thanks MB loil)
He built us into a solid upper middle SEC team that no team could overlook. But he could never figure out the offense consistently and just didn't have the killer instinct you need to be at the top of a premier conference.
You can give Stein credit without knocking down the measurable achievements of Stoops. I don't know what happened these last few years but winning 10 games is a huge freaking achievement that seems like the top of where Stoops could go.

CMS probably going to win him a natty with Sark. Another year or two he’ll be a DC at a decent program.
We got a new, more modern coach/staff that can compete and win in this era of football.

Stoops could not coach that a proven fact he had great talent, Stein who alot of people wanted to fire last week and wanting Stoops back. A new Sheriff in town.
True story. I think this is true across the game. There was a weird trend for a while (not just UK) where guys would just launch themselves at guys and not even attempt to wrap up. Like if they just hit them they would go down. Drove me nuts.
