Should be a red flag that his former boss as a DC isn't retaining him. Maybe they have their conflicts of some sort. Kind of strange IMO. Still, the guy is a good coach but UK, for good or bad, has a DL coach.

Was it a red flag against Summers when he wasn't retained by Stoops?

Different situation, Stoops had no known prior relationship with Summers.

BTW, I know Summers is favored by many here, I know he's had good OLs at various places but can anyone honestly say Summers UK OLs were that much better than we're seeing now? I'm not a huge Schlarman fan, no question UK has to improve significantly in the OL to be ordinary, but Summers OLs while at UK were a flop. So he had a good OL at UL, so UF's OL this year was pretty good...big deal. While at UK his OLs were underwhelming.

Could have something to do with the talent joker brought in.

Following up on the Summers OL deal, thought Jimmy Heggins did a good job considering what he had to work with. It seemed like he pieces together a line out of different combos of players every week. Hated to see him go.

We had OL's that were in the top half of the league under him and the recruits were nothing as highly ranked as we have now. He turned 2 stars into draft pics. Let him recruit the state of Ky like Scharlman is and let the other coaches recruit out of state like it is presently now.
Our OL coach is horrid, down right putrid. Makes me question a guys sanity or their observation skills if they think what we have now is acceptable.

Hard to say they weren't more respected under Summers.

There are some snippets in these articles about just what they did accomplish as a unit.

Good find! Nice to see some articles on how well our OL was back then relative to the talent level.

What good players has our OL coach brought in himself that is out of state?

Florida's o-line is abysmal.

Heggins was let go because he was not working hard at Nutter or on the recruiting trail. The final straw was one weekend he was supposed to be out recruiting in Florida and he was sitting in his office in Nutter.

Brown brought in his offensive staff, including Schlarman. Wonder if the Mo DL coach prefers to live in that area of the country in another conference?

If the "sanity" and "acceptable" comments were directed at me you failed to read my post. I clearly stated I wasn't a Schlarman fan and said UK "needed to improve significantly to be ordinary." Pretty clear.

The guy has been at Mo 24 years so I'd guess he has deep roots.

I know Joker catches hell from us but those last 2 years were terrible on his future, the years Rich was coach and CIW. Heggins did not recruit much at all for a long time, had family and health issues, Steve Brown was lackluster recruiter, usually playing golf somewhere. Smith the DL coach had some health issues and was not tearing it up.

Joker tried to get Rich involved but all this did was alienate some members, most were at racetrack or in office while Joker was out trying to round up recruits and also knowing his future was in hands of these guys and they weren't doing crap and the fact Rich did not hold them accountable. I still say Rich should have been a little more demanding on these guys than Joker may have fared better. Joker was securing all the guys in Ga, Lagrange, Fla, Ky, S. Carolina. Rich was good coach but his lack of involvement those last 2 years were death nail for Joker's tenure.

I dont get this either. He does well under Petrino. But at his time with UK, he didnt do anything to impress.

He would be a nice replacement for one of the worst DL coaches in P5 football who is currently employed by UK.

Brumbaugh helped put 2 DE's in the NFL from KY, and theyre both producing last I checked. Then Anderson this year had a terrific season out of nowhere. He had 67 tackles and 8.5 TFL I think; and that was without playing a few games. Melvin Lewis was also really good.

Brumbaugh might not be the best. But hes certainly not one of the worst. Hes actually building a decent resume here.

Joker did plenty to aid in his downfall. Anyone out in downtown Lex on Friday and Saturday nights can attest to that.

Yes Joker recruited the South, but most of the players were a step or two below SEC quality.

Really hard to gauge assistant coaches from a distance. Missouri had excellent defensive teams. Was it coaching, scheme, personel? Most of the defensive credit at mizzu went to the head coach and DC - not sure the defensive line coach should get much credit.

I think Kuligowski lands higher up the food chain, especially with all the new staffs being created.
