Unfortunately we are injury depleted going up against a great outing by Gausman. Hope we can pull this one out

ETA should put in Reed after that hit

but as soon as a team scores in the top of an extra inning, the home team always seems to come back and score in the bottom of the inning. I don't know why that is, but it seems to happen a lot.

how about Justin Pigott going 7+ shutout innings against Florida St. Dude was 7-7 with a 4.51 ERA that year and just completely shut down the #3 team in the country on the road in a huge clutch game.

ice him up...and make him run a mile tonight to get the lactic acid moved out of there. Then he takes his anti-inflammatorys

His next start is in 7 days- limit him to 100 or less next week

Kids dont get many chances like he had tonight- let him go

All is well

but several SEC guy's will get up around there at some point this year. The biggest problem with it is that it was his first start of the year so his body isn't used to going that long and it's opening SEC weekend with an already depleted staff. Stratton is a work horse so if anyone can handle it it's him. Too much baseball left to play to leave him in that long. However, hats off to Chris for one of the best performance's in a long time in a hostile environment where the ball flies. He was also lights out there two years ago.

When I played, our coach made us run foul poles after the game when we pitched that night. Probably not a mile, but close to it. Maybe I'm the only one, but I think Coach is right on this one. Wouldn't be a bit surprised if Cohen made him run, and I would actually think it was a good thing and a smart move if he did.

why in the world would running help get rid of lactic acid like Coach34 said? Lactic acid is produced when there isn't enough oxygen to run aerobic respiration. Running a mile would just make lactic acid levels higher, right? I don't think running "gets the lactic acid out of there." Anyone know the real reason of running after pitching? There has to be someone here smarter than me that can clear this up.

I have no data to back it up but pitchers had far fewer career altering injuries before the 100 pitch count came around. Most are also so coddled now that they can't tell the difference between sore and injured.

but the biggest reason to run is to fatigue the legs even further after he's done pitching to build them stronger for the next start. Butch Thompson will give his guys a choice to ride a stationary bike after the game for 15 minutes or so and then they will go through "day after" program that will have distance and sprint work mixed in and they will lift in the weight room after the running (sometimes before. It varies when they're on the road) with the emphasis being on heavy legs. However, they do have a new strength coach this year so some things might have changed.<div>
</div><div>To provide a contrast between last night and Bowen's almost no hitter, I was talking to Butch Thompson before last season and he was telling me with the new bat change rules that were enacted before the 2011 season, that we would see pitcher's have much more success. So, not trying to negate last night but Bowen's was also pretty impressive.</div>

which helps prevent lactic acid buildup...any good program runs their pitchers afterwards...stationary bike is an ok substitute, but not as good imo

If we're just talking lactic acid, a fairly gentle cool-down period is better to get it out (relative to the activity)<div>
</div><div>I think swimming for pitchers would be good way to do that, but of course not everyone has access to pools. When I was in JUCO, our coaches would have the pitchers run shuttles and or for distance after their outings to increase their endurance.</div>
