...I think coaching salaries are really about to escalate, especially in the SEC, with the new revenue streams coming in. So, we may be prepared to break the bank for a new coach, but in two or three years time, he may end up being one of the least-compensated coaches in the league. Makes you wonder if we get a big name or a young rising star in the coaching ranks how long he would stick around.

1. for it to escalate across the board in the SEC, it will have to do it nationally across the board.

2. & are other schools across the SEC / country, regulated as we are as to how the added compensation is generated (i.e Bulldog Club / Foundation)

That's exactly what I've learned over the last 10 years. I believe I saw something that said that only 5 or so coaches in D-1 made over $1M in 1999. Today, there are over 50.

And yes, even if you break the bank to get your new coach, he'll be in the bottom half of the league in compensation by the start of the 2010 season, maybe even by the start of the 2009 season as coaches renegotiate their current deals.

I still blame most of it on Alabama with Saban. They sent the inflation in coaches salaries to a new level.
