[h=4]Dudy Noble Memories[/h]
This is about the team, the fans, the best college baseball atmosphere in the world.

A couple of my special memories- what's yours?

We were hosting a regional with Omaha on the line. We were playing Western Carolina and the left field lounge folks were on their left fielder as always. He happened to be a black guy. He took all the abuse in good nature and became a favorite of the left field loungers. One inning he hit a home run to either take or expand a Western Carolina lead in a game they won . When he went back out to left field the "State" folks in the lounge gave him a standing ovation. You could see him smiling. Real Class!!

One year we hosted a regional and played Cal State Fullerton in the finals with Omaha on the line. Cal State won. They were celebrating, high fiving each other, etc.
Our guys were in their 3rd base dugout. Even with all of the disappointment of not making Omaha, the Dudy Noble crowd stood up and began a huge ovation for our guys and would not stop until they came out of the dugout and acknowledged them. I looked over at the Cal State dugout and everyone of their players had stopped celebrating and were watching in awe as the ovation for the 'Dawgs" continued. A truly special moment.

This guy's best memories at Dudy Noble are two losses. We are Miss. Stake.

Makes me thankful...

..the proprietors of this board 86ed that "classy" foolishness. Constantly dropping "classy" bombs sounds a bunch of stay-at-home moms providing their assessment of the American sports culture.

Like I've said many times, we have the stupidest fans in the country sometimes. No Burke Masters grand slam? No blowout win over South Carolina? No Clark, Palmerio, Brantley, Thigpen? No Clemson super-regional? None of the games that sent us to Ohaha? Really? 2 losses are your favorite memories? What an idiot.

I know exactly what he meant. It's not like it was written in code. And yes, he is an idiot.

Here is that same guys' favorite Davis Wade memory....

"when the clock ticked down to :50 and we lined up to punt, we all knew that MSU wouldn't see the football again. The game was all but determined, we had lost to Maine....and Croom was throwing in the towel...against Maine....but as I glanced around Davis Wade, I noticed one other man sticking around to see our Dawgs to the finish line while the other 40,000 fans flooded the exits. The curly headed man and I caught eyes and began a standing slow clap for our team who had laid their efforts on the field that night. This was my first ever contact with Mr. Gene Swindoll. I noticed one of our players point up to me in appreciation...I even saw a tiny tear of "thank you" roll down our beloved golf cart riding walrus's cheek. Thank you Davis Wade Stadium."

Seriously though, people like that guy need a 17ing reality check. You can't witness something like the Super against Clemson, and seriously type the **** he typed.

I genuinely don't see the problem with his best memories being losses. Those are his memories; I'm certainly not going to judge him. There is actually something neat about the idea that we are a school made up of kind people, who are still kind even after losing in the sport we are historically known for winning in. You wouldn't see any Alabama fans cheering on another team after upsetting them in Bryant-Denny. It's ultimately one of the greatest things that separates us from those who care about nothing besides sports. Also, the 2OT loss to UPig is also my favorite game I've ever watched at DWS.

We never lost to Western Carolina. It was 1987, Oklahoma State was hammering WCU, and during one of the pitching changes the WCU centerfielder ran back and got a barbeque sammich from one of the LFLers, and stuck it in his back pocket. After the game, the WCU players went out to the lounge and feasted...they said that they hadn't eaten since late morning and they were starving.

That was the same series where State fans got all over the Oklahoma State team (the Head Corch was a douche, and their team was arrogant). When they got the final out against tMSU, the centerfielder mooned the Lounge. Because of that, he was suspended from the first game of the 1987 CWS.

You do realize that the purpose of playing the games is to try to WIN them, don't you? It's one thing to be a gracious loser (as well as a gracious winner). That's something everyone should work towards. But when the losses are some of your favorite memories, something's seriously wrong with your priorities.

That's your problem. I think I'll go with beating Alabama in 1996, or countless other WINS. Wins being the key word.

All fine and dandy to say so and so game was fun, which Arkansas 2010 was. But your best memory ever? Come on.

I don't see a problem with the guy's posts. Memories are made for different reasons. It is not all about winning. My dad only took me to one game growing up. That was the Egg Bowl in Jackson when the wind blew the kick out of the goalposts. Still a great memory because he is now 84 and it is the only game we ever attended together, and the only collegiate game he has attended in his life. The Maine football game was a horrific loss, but will always be one of my favorite memories. The Maine game was the first of what I thought would be many to take my son to. He was 3 years old at the time. I dressed him up in MSU maroon. I will never forget his excitement (and mine). He thought we were playing Ole Miss and talked all the way home from the game about how "we beat those rebels". We went to several more over the next few years. We quit going when he was in 2nd grade because he could no longer walk up the steps due to health issues. He was in 5th grade before we could attend another game without me physically carrying him or using a wheelchair. People hold memories for many different reasons. There are greater things in life than who wins a ballgame on Saturday.

From this day forward, when I think of the Maine game, I will think of this instead of what happened on the field. Thanks for sharing.

It's not the losing that we like. It's the memories we associate with the entire time we had. For instance, the 2OT loss to UPig. I went with my father, my first SEC game, one of three total games we've been to. The atmosphere for that game was CRAZY electric. They were a top 10 team, and our team played fiercely. Their fans were annoying as crap (we sat right on the edge of their ticket allotment (on the away side). I remember riding the bus back to our truck and thinking to myself how awesome that game was and how incredible it was that OUR STATE was making something that was historically horrid into something great and something we could be proud of. THAT'S what I'm describing. I wasn't there to see Master's grand slam or the '80 upset of #1 Bama. My best memory is a loss to UPig. If I could go back to that UPig game, EVEN KNOWING WE WOULD LOSE THAT GAME, I would.

I've never enjoyed a loss. I've been proud of my team for playing hard against superior opponents, sure. But my best memories will always be the victories.

THIS is what I'm talking about. God bless you and your family. I'm glad you're a part of our fan base because it's stories like this that make MSU special to me. Thanks for sharing. Y'all are True Maroon.

Yeah, great story, yours and his. I'm glad you enjoyed it. And you explained why. So did the poster on Gene's Page. But his explanation of why he enjoyed the losses was much different from yours.

I completely disagree. We should have a fan base that is hungry to win at all costs. Losing games is NEVER a good memory to me.

Just dont let one of those costs be a decent non conference team. We only want the minimum standard to make a mid range bowl.
