But locally, Farmlinks in Sylacauga, AL is the nicest I have played. Better than Waverly or any of the Trent Jones' courses in my opinion.

Played one time at Southwind about a week or so after the tournament several years ago with the greens cut low and the rough high. It really is amazing how the pros putt on those things cut like that. It takes a special touch.

it's pretty remarkable. Kelly Plantation in Destin is pretty nice. One of those two I would say. Bermuda Run Country Club in Clemmons, NC is pretty nice as well.

I've also played the Woodlands in TX, Torrey Pines, and Painted Desert in Vegas. One of my favorite courses is Tour 18 in Houston, as it replicates 18 of the most famous holes on the tour, including Amen Corner and the 17th at Sawgrass.

Cuscawilla on Lake Oconee in Georgia. rated the #1 Real Estate golf course in America by Golf Digest. i have a friend that played Augusta National, i've seen the pics. does that count as me playing it?? his dad used to date the secretary of Augusta National. and are still good friends. he keeps telling me he is gonna get me on it one day. i'm keeping my fingers crossed, but not losing sleep over it.

Actually it's the ONLY course I've ever played. My ex wife had a golfing jones for a period, so she bought me a set of clubs.
Monrovia was laid-back and forgiving for beginners, but I never thought of it and "great" in the same sentence.
A pity it's now closed.
Now, I live across the road from Valley Hills, formerly known as Willowbrook, but the clubs have collected 5 years of dust.
Just another sport I have absolutely no talent for.
I guess it's still considered a "sport," since there's a ball and money involved.

Several years ago I was in CA on TDY and a few of us went to Pebble Beach and walked around until the Warden told us our attire was inappropriate, and asked us to leave.
A non-jorts venue.
It looked like a pretty decent course.

to get to play Pinehurst #2 as well as 4 of the other ones they have. If you are a golf fan you MUST go stay at the Pinehurst resort and play as many of the courses as you can. Simply amazing. I will say #2 was beautiful of course but it actually wasn't my favorite they had and it's definitely not the toughest but shave the area around those greens and make the greens super fast and you'll 5 put every green. Interesting story when we were playing #2 the ranger kept 17ing with us to the point my Uncle almost punched him out. The ranger pulled me aside on the 4th hole and yelled at me cause I kept carrying my bag. I wanted to walk the course because as a golfer I can get myself in a rhythm when I walk and you see much more of the course but if you don't pay for a caddie they won't let you walk the course. That's not why my Uncle wanted to knock him out tho. He came upto us 4 different times and said we were "on the clock" and we had to speed it up. Keep in mind we were 2 full holes ahead of the next group. It costs $450 to play per person so we were not pleased to have Ranger Rick hounding us.

Firestone is an awesome golf course. I always completely forget about it though when asked about my favorite track, probably because when I had the chance to play it I was paired with three complete choppers and it rained off and on the whole day, which didn't add much to the experience.

Municipal course in Jackson is great too. When the windblows from the west you can smell the elephant poop from the zoo. Augusta National can't make that claim.

prior to Hurricane katrina. Pete Dye design and a big course from the tips. 7,400 and change.

Augusta is just the pinnacle ofgolf in theUSin my opinion. I guess that's thesoutherner in metalking. I don't care what else you talk about pebble, st andrews, winged foot, pinehurst, congressional, whatever. Augusta to me is heaven so I am jealous of ol blue and anyone else who has played there. I love that place.

I have hit it on the fringe before that way, seen it done in a scramble... Put the cart in neutral on the way down and I dare you not to use the brake...

Because of the condition, layout, difficulty, and exclusivity.

I have played dozens of more memorable courses, but that thing was in incredible shape at the time(shortly before the PGA over a decade ago), and the difficulty in ever getting to play it has to put it atop the list.

Harborside in Chicago, Chicago Golf Club in the burbs, Whistling Straits in WI, Hazeltine in MN, every course on the Monterey Peninsula, all these are courses outside of the SE region that if you ever get a chance to play- do so.

The Old Course isn't the best golf course, but it was the greatest experience. You get announced on the first tee. You have a gallery on 17 and 18, and everything in between is fantastic -- bunkers, 200-ft putts, double greens, the caddies, the R&A, the old bridge, etc. If you are avid about golf, save up the money and take the time to make the trip. You will not regret it.

As for courses in Scotland, Kingsbarns is a pretty as golf courses get. I put it right up there with Pebble for great views. It is just a few miles south of the city of St. Andrews.

I haven't had the opportunity to play some of the courses mentioned. Played a few Robert Trent Jones courses, a couple of nice ones in Colorado, a few in Florida, but Old Waverly is about as nice as any I have played. I would love to play Pinehurst, Firestone, Pebble Beach and some others. Maybe some day.
