It's competing 4 days against the worlds best that'll be the biggest hurdle imo.
Playing 3 rounds just gives the underdogs a better chance. Can’t win a tournament by playing one round of your life. But if it’s just 3 rounds, it might be enough because it doesn’t allow others to catch you.

I'm pointing out that some of these LIV guys haven't had the pressure of 4 rounds against top competition in close to a year.

Can they just flick a switch?

Will be interesting to see how Brooks Koepka plays this week. He really tailed off last season and from the Netflix Full Swing show it looks like he’s really lost his confidence putting. Signing up with LIV May have been a desperate cash grab that he can no longer earn on the PGA Tour.

Well, he's not #1 in the World Golf Rankings. John Rahm is followed by Scheffler and Rory. He's #5 and only LIV golfer in the Top 20.
I think it was Speith that said recently players don't care about World Golf Rankings. They know who the best players are.

OT question. You have gator issues at your course?

I read an elderly woman in a Port Saint Lucie golf community was killed by one after it went after her dog and she tried to fight it off

Similar situation happened near us last year when a gator took off a woman’s arm after swallowing her little dog. The game warden said that someone there was likely feeding the gator on a regular basis and that makes them more aggressive towards humans. Of course no one stepped forward to fess up as the perp.

I haven’t seen many gators at the courses this season. They are always docile and barely move when we pass through.

But if you have a little dog I wouldn’t walk it right next to a pond, just to be safe. There may be a baby boomer nearby who is feeding the gators there. The first rule when living in FL is never to feed the wildlife. But some people don’t believe that rule applies to them. And so it goes.

Adidas has dropped LIV members DJ and Sergio Garcia.

It was a mutual split with DJ. They just did not renew Sergio. Not renewing with Sergio makes sense but think they would have liked to keep DJ if possible. DJ will still wear Adidas shoes.

There are some reports that the decision was, in part, tied to Adidas taking the position that it couldn't justify the relationship anymore as Johnson was no longer as visible a golfer as he once was given LIV has a fraction of the viewership of the PGA. That makes some sense if true.

But as someone noted, Dustin gonna be just fine. LOL.

Back to Non LIV/PGA talk...

Played Royce Brook West (the private side) this weekend. Lot of work going on, re doing bunkers, taking some out, clearing trees etc, mostly on the back 9. Apparently they rolled the greens recently too because they were rolling pretty good for February. It will be interesting to see everything when its all done.

I've been seeing a few courses undergoing renovations, taking out more trees. My dad's course did it and one reason they did it was to increase air flow around greens and low areas that were getting soggy in heavy rains. I'll say it made a big difference, especially around the greens, in terms of how well they stood up over the course of the hottest summer months.

I think I read in a story that since the LIV guys need to wear the LIV logo and team names on their shirts, Adidas would then be a minor logo. They wanted to be the only one. They have been together with DJ from the start of his career so that is why he will continue to wear their shoes with no agreement.

In regards to visibility, LIV coverage being limited is just the US. There is still a visible global audience. I don't get CW so it doesn't help me or most that stream only. I will still use their website.

Except their viewership numbers worldwide aren't all that great either.

LIV Golf Contracts with Players Include Interesting Clauses and Restrictions
As reported by the Wall Street Journal, clauses in contracts include:
  • players are asked to wear LIV apparel while playing in both LIV and non-LIV events
  • non-LIV logos that players wear require approval as well as any logos on branded products used at events
  • exception in contract for players to wear the brand of a third party supplier of golf equipment on the side of their hat
  • players are asked not to give interviews related to an ‘event or league activity’ without approval from LIV management
  • players must help in recruiting of other golfers to join LIV
  • players are independent contractors, but are required to participate in all LIV event

LIV Golf is streaming only on Friday and CW TV from 1-6pm Sunday. Seems to me that they will get buried in tv ratings by a weak field Honda Classic this weekend. Then LIV goes silent for another 3 weeks.

And does anyone care about the LIV team competition? Except for the Ryder Cup, golf is an individual game imo.

LIV Golf: LIV Golf Mayakoba

Site: Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
Course: Mayakoba Golf Resort (El Camaleon). Yardage: 7,062. Par: 71.
Prize money: $25 million. Winner’s share: $4 million. Winning team share: $3 million.
Television: Watch on FuboTV
Friday, 1-6 p.m. (The CW app); Saturday-Sunday, 1-6 p.m. (CW Network).
Defending champion: New tournament.
Points champion: Dustin Johnson.
Notes: This is the first of 14 tournaments in the second season of the Saudi-funded league. ... Mayakoba previously hosted a PGA Tour event since 2007. Russell Henley won in November. ... El Camaleon was designed by Greg Norman, the CEO and commissioner of LIV Golf. ... Dustin Johnson won the individual and team titles last year in LIV Golf and made over $35.6 million. ... Among newcomers to defect from the PGA Tour or European tour are Mito Pereira, Sebastian Munoz, Brendan Steele, Danny Lee, Dean Burmester and Thomas Pieters. ... Some of the teams have changed names for the first full year of league play. ... Bubba Watson is a team leader and plays for the first time since the PGA Championship last May. ... LIV Golf is starting its season in the one week during a five-week stretch that the PGA Tour does not have an elevated event. ... Graeme McDowell (2015) and Pat Perez (2016) are the only LIV Golf players who won the PGA Tour event at Mayakoba.

Next tournament: LIV Golf Tucson on March 17-19.

The more golf on TV, the better. Outside of the majors, golf viewership really isn't great compared to other sports.

LIV lost another court battle, at least until appealed. The PGA countersuit can add the Saudi fund and the fund's governor as defendents.

So can I assume one reason for the lack of named golfers at the Honda is the LIV?

Where's the LIV on TV?

ETA: Fubo??!! Ain't no one gots time for that.

No. Because of the new PGA Tour schedule with these designated touraments, those tournaments (like the Honda) the week after one of the big tournaments are likely to see less big name players as they take a week off.

If anything LIV is scheduled this week because they knew this week would be a down week in terms of the interest level in the PGA event. If you look, many of the LIV tournaments are during weeks where most of the top PGA players won't be playing.

I’m watching online some of the LIV tournament from Cancun area today. It seems more like a celebrity golf outing rather than a tournament.

Lots of familiar names but not much juice to the competition.

Im switching over to the Honda Classic on tv. Great course at PGA National in FL with very tough finishing holes with lots of water in play. I like the PGA Tour announcers much better than LIV.

Gotcha. Thanks - I can't be bothered to deal with the deets between LIV and PGA.

I don't know about tough holes. This bunch of nobody's are shooting low numbers. They definitely made this course easy for the light competition.

15-16-17 are known as the Bear Trap. Top 5 toughest stretch on regular PGA Tour events (non majors).

Rest of course? Well not exactly that tough.

Watching for first time. They certainly are trying to make the teams important. I don’t care about the teams. Leaderboard on left of screen is too small. I’m in the minority but forgot how much I don’t find Feherty that funny. Liked the graphic showing the average score depending on where your t-shot went. Didn’t hear any noticeable music. I thought that was a thing. It’s was ok.

For the guys who love LIV, are you into the teams?
