Apparently the weather won't be very good all 4 days. With T-storms there may be a number of stops and starts.
I guess you'd want a good mudder.
Plus, DJ handled much of this the right way. He simply joined LIV, didn't take any shots out the door, didnt try to BS people out the door like Mickelson did, and he wasn't part of the original lawsuit filed by 11 players.
He apparently has remained friendly with guys on the Tour. Someone pointed out that at the Masters dinner last night, 5 of the LIV guys were altogether for the official dinner photo whereas DJ was with Tiger and Speith and Scott and some others. He'd likely have way more support to rejoin the PGA Tour than someone like Reed.
+2 after a 5 on 9. Birdied 12, 13, 15, and 17 but bogey on 18 put him -1. Currently T12.
Finally got our full day in at AGNC on Tuesday this week after my friend won the ticket lottery in the summer of 2019 and COVID/rain delayed us. Unreal experience, still coming down off the high for the remainder of the weekend.
Great 1st day leaderboard with Rahm, Koepka and Hovland in the lead at -7. Hovland’s been close but never seems to finish well. Rahm has to be the favorite but would love to see Brooks win another major.
If Koepka is fully healthy, he will be a wrecking ball at all majors this year.
Saturday is going to be a washout with respect to heavy rainfall, which could cause play to be postponed and unless they want to try to play 36 on Sunday (theoretically possible, I guess), this one could easily go to Monday. I'd rather just see them play in decent weather on Sun/Mon (could be a few leftover showers early Sunday, but most of the day should be good and Monday looks great). On the flip side, though, the Saturday rain is likely to be just rain, i.e., no lightning, so, in theory, they should play even if it's heavy rain and windy and chilly (highs in the upper 40s), as long as the rain isn't so heavy it makes some holes unplayable. 1-2" of rain is very likely to fall from 4 am through 8 pm on Saturday and I don't know if the course can take that.
And tomorrow is not going to be a picnic, but there likely won't be enough rain to cause major issues - but there could be some lightning, although this isn't predicted to be a widespread convective event with lots of t-storms, so while a few delays are possible, I would think they'll get the 2nd round in.

SHORT TERM /6 AM FRIDAY MORNING THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/...
This will be quite a tricky forecast for the period as the front
will move southward across the Midlands and Central Savannah
River Area on Friday. The models have come into quite good
agreement with the evolution of this system through the period.
By Friday morning the front will be near the NC/SC border and
will begin the southward trek. The front will continue to
progress southward over the course of the day Friday with the
model mean indicating it be just north of Columbia around noon.
This will result in temperatures falling through the day in the
far northern forecast area with a bit more of a diurnal trend
in the south before the front moves through during the
afternoon, south of the area by Friday evening with breezy winds
shifting out of the NE. PWATs will be above 1.2 inches across
the area but forecast soundings do indicate a bit of dry air in
the mid levels. With the forcing provided by the front as well
shortwaves passing through the NW portion of the forecast area,
chances for rain will be high and CAMs indicate the possibility
of at least weak instability in the southern portion of the
forecast area so an isolated thunderstorm will be possible. Have
continued the trend of a slight chance of thunder south of the
boundary as it moves south through the afternoon. Strengthening
isentropic lift Friday night with deep moisture in place will
lead to widespread rain developing over the entire area. Cold
advection behind the front continues Friday night as lows drop
into the mid to upper 40s.
As been the trend for several days now, confidence is high that
the cold aid damming will be firmly in place for Saturday with
strong consensus among global models in temperatures not moving
all that much, struggling to get out of the 40s. The local
wedge scheme for high temperatures on Saturday looks good, which
is running several degrees below blended guidance but seems
more reasonable. Currently forecasting a record low max
temperature for Columbia at 49F (previous record 51F set in
2003). Strong isentropic lift continues through the day with
widespread rain. In addition to the much below average
temperatures, breezy NE winds in place through the area.
Isentropic lift may weaken a bit overnight with drier air
beginning to move in aloft, although still have high pops into
Saturday night. Low temperatures in the low to mid 40s.
Rainfall amounts for the event look to be in the 2 to 3 inch
range across the CWA with a few locations 3+ inches. Expect the
rainfall to be steady and moderate to heavy at times. WPC has
the area outlooked for a Marginal Risk of Excessive Rainfall on
Saturday. At this time, the main threat appears to be high flows
and minor river flooding developing into early next week.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Ensemble members are fairly consistent in deep moisture moving
out of the area for Sunday which will limit chances for rain,
especially into the afternoon. The slowest model for improvement
on Sunday is the ECMWF, but the trend is for conditions to
improve throughout the day. Forecast soundings do indicate the
potential for low level moisture remaining trapped beneath a
subsidence inversion which may lead to low clouds hanging on.
This will keep conditions cool into Sunday with general trends
in blended guidance support cooler temperatures. Ensemble means
have also been indicating general troughiness hanging on over
the area into next week which will limit how fast temperatures
moderate with NAEFS indicating near surface temperatures near
the tenth percentile through at least Monday. Ensemble means
keep PWATs around or below a half inch next week through the end
of the period.
Can't stand Keopka, and don't love Rahm or Hovland, so will have to root for someone else - would love to see Schauffle get his first major (he's at -4).
I actually like Keopka a lot. I have no ill will for any of LIV players. All golfers made a personal decision to stay on the PGA or to play on the LIV. I can't argue any players choice either way. One thing is for sure the LIV tour forced the PGA to take $ care of the top golfers.
As for Keopka he is the toughest mentally on any tour. Seems to be back physically as well but this course can be tiring. The top 6 were very impressive especially Rahm who stated with a double on the first and then steamrolled the rest. I don't think Tiger can play a course like this anymore. It's a grueling course to walk. Hope he surprises me today.

I like Xander a lot and would be nice to see him win. I don't get the hate for Koepka. He's been the under appreciated guy his whole life and worked his *** off to win those 4 majors. It's easy for me to root for guys like that.

He can be a bit surly and kind of a pompous *** at times. But overall, he typically keeps to himself. He's also one of the guys that jumped to LIV and has kind of just kept to himself. I don't think he's taken pot shots at the PGA or been part of the lawsuits. Very much like DJ.
If a LIV guy were to win, I'd prefer it be someone like Koepka or DJ or Oosty as opposed to someone like Reed or Mickelson or DeChambeau or Pat Perez (LOL).
Koepka (when healthy), DJ, and Cam Smith are as elite as it gets. No need to ruffle feathers. You never know what the future holds.
One of the golf beat writers said just yesterday he still hears rumors that Koepka has worked back channels trying to get back to the Tour. But if the reports about the ridiculous exit fees are true, he's gonna have to ride out his LIV contract for a few more years. Then again, he only seems to care about the majors and if he wins Sunday, he doesn't have to worry about the Masters invite anymore. He has the US Open and PGA locked down fora few more years given his wins a few years ago. And with a win Sunday, he buys five years of British Open exemptions.
The guys who have been mouthy about LIV are the guys you'd expect - Reed, Garcia, Perez, Mickelson, etc.
I don't "hate" Koepka or any other athlete (none of them are worth that kind of emotional investment) - just never liked him. Great golfer, but a whiny arrogant prick.
Some major t-storms just skirted south of Augusta over the last 30 minutes. Those would've halted play. More are on tap, but they're still kind of scattered, so it's possible we'll get the 2nd round in.
Sounds like LIV contracts are for 4 years, so thru the 2025 season. He is a perfect fit for LIV since as you pointed out, he only cares about majors. Still would be nice to play a few other big events, if able to. The payday was huge and at the time, he was still getting over a serious injury.
Surprised they halted play for such a minor threat, which has passed - play should resume very shortly.
Great point on motivation for Brooks. Win and you are good to come back every year (until the tell you so). Hopefully the weather cooperates and we get a great finish.

This stoppage should be fairly short, also, unless something not on the radar pops up, which is always possible (a common error people make in mesoscale convective setups, like this - it's not just a matter of looking at the radar and movement of cells, since cells can just form almost anywhere).
So you are saying he was smart to take the money? If he pulls the Masters off and gets to 5 majors, that’s a pretty good career. Plus his wife seems cool.

Never said it wasn’t smart for any of them to take the money. For most, it was a no brainer. I said LIV is a joke. That’s why they have to pay stupid money to get people to join.
