I tend to think the same.
He's being eased out because of the way the deal went down and the money he blew fighting the LIV.
Yep. Can’t lead people that don’t respect you. I wouldn’t call being shown the door before the deal closes eased out. I’m going to think the players revolted and said only way deal gets done is if Monahan is no longer part of the organization.

I guess the negotiations with Yasir have taken a toll on Monahan!
Actually it probably is Dunne's idea to dump him and take more control
while Yasir will be making Norman go away.
Once the deal started going down those who were the faces of the fight
had to go away to appease the PGA players.

One of my close friends at our club in Jupiter Fl is also a member at LACC. Played both north/southcourses for the first time last year. Place is spectacular, and I made an albatross with a majestic drive on the 6th hole!! Any chance for me to bring that up is a good day. :).

I would find a way to bring that up at least 3 times every day, regardless of how relevant it is to any given conversation. Hell of a memory!

US Open TV coverage just started with live coverage on Peacock TV.

Par 5 number 1 is a birdie hole as are a number of others on the front nine. Fairways are pretty generous but plenty of deep fescue rough and trouble areas around the greens.

3 of the 5 par 3’s are over 200 yards today. Looks like a great track for a US Open.

I was just checking the TV schedule for the weekend. All rounds are ending at 11pm EST. I'll guess I'll have to read all about who won Monday morning. Ugh

This doesn't seem like your hard, difficult, typical US Open course. Definitely some hard holes but there seems to be some pretty easy holes too. Things could change as the course firms up and gets harder over the weekend.

Some don't like watching when the US Open is brutally tough. They like to see birdies. I am the opposite way. For one time a year, I love a grueling, tough course where getting around in -1 or E is a great round.

I think they will firm this thing up. As long as the weather holds I can’t imagine we see 4 days of low scores.

The USGA likes to see birdies??

Not how I read his comment at all. He said “some” like to see birdies, implying that typically the USGA on a US Open setup does not.
The USGA definitely does not. It's not only they want it difficult but they literally have ruined golf courses over the years during the Open.

Yep.

You'll see fans and even some in the media complain the course was too hard and they want to see birdies. I like the USGA makes this courses grueling where birdies are tough to get. This course, at least for today, doesn't seem like yuor typical US Open set up.

From the comments on the Golf Channel this will be a totally different course then when Homa played it and they believe the score will be around par.
@WhiteBus

Let us know when you are ready to walk back this statement. Maybe do some critical thinking instead of parroting GC’s talking points about LACC.

These players are good. 😀

Let’s see how the course plays over the next few days. I think scores will come down. Looking at the course I am not sure I like it. Doesn’t look like an LA course to me for some reason. I prefer the traditional look of the east coast country clubs or more links (ex. Shinnecock) for a US Open.

Not impressed by the course. Winner is gonna set the record for low score in a US Open. Huge fairways. Slow greens.

There are many courses that don’t deserve their lofty ranks. LACC definitely belongs in any top 25 list. IMO- Seminole is so overrated it’s crazy. Move to the other side of RT 1 and it would be a friggin Muni.

BTW- Did I mention I got an albatross on the 6th hole at LACC? :).

Same here - defenseless course. They better make the pins a lot harder tomorrow, since I don't think the USGA has any other levers to pull.

A buddy who plays it quite often agrees with you - Seminole is nice but overrated.

What a day 1 at US Open. It didn’t feel like US Open with a lot of players smiling instead of complaining after the round. Was watching the Rory group. I expect Brooks and Hideki to bounce back today. They were just off. Rory had a good round. The wide fairway and his length will be an advantage. Rory’s problem is between his ears. His approach on 18 is a total WTF moment. His sawed off swing ended up in the thick stuff by the green. Not sure why he tried that shot when he can just hit a wedge like his previous approach.

What a round by Rickie and Xander. So happy for Rickie. What a comeback story if he can win a major. I thought he was done but just showed the value of the grind.

I am happy for Rickie and Xander as well. Nice to see Rickie have a great first round and success for 2 CA guys. Looking forward to see what happens today. Typical rounds for Rory and DJ. They always seem to ruin nice rounds with bogeys on 18.

Since it's a US Open, let's see what the USGA can do to ruin the course. 😀 Normally I would think they come back to normal round 2, but it appears low scores are out there.

Wednesday Gil Hanse who did the restoration of LACC predicted the winning score would be around -9.

Oops.

Supposedly the marine layer will burn off today, so Saturday and Sunday the course will be playing firmer, so drives will roll off the fairway, they won't be throwing darts at the pins, etc. "Supposedly".

Another overrated course is TPC Scottsdale. Its nice, well maintained, but without the stadium, its just a nice course. Even with the stadium, its not worth the price they hang on you.

How expensive is Waste Management tickets? How much is it for the 16th boxes?

I don't know how much tickets are for the WM tournament, but typically they are not very expensive. I don't believe you pay extra for the 16th hole... you just have to be first to get there. They always show the gates opening and people running to get there.

I liked TPC Scottsdale as you say very well maintained. Played week after waste management so grandstands we’re still up and that added to experience. Agree not worth the price and overrated. Wouldn’t even rate the course top 5 in the Scottsdale metro area.

PGA Tournaments this year that had multiple players shoot 62 in opening round:
Butterfield Bermuda Championship
U.S. Open
😂

The next round of Opens will be at:
Pinehurst, Oakmont, Shinnecock, Winged Foot, Pebble and Merion...so we'll get back to regularly scheduled brutal tests, soon enough. The USGA isn't changing the test long term. The course looks super fun, hopefully it gets harder and faster.

I think the greens will firm up over the weekend and it’ll be back to par rounds.

Lack of crowd and crowd noise is disturbing. No real grandstands on 18 and 1. US Open is meant to be a huge stage. This setting does not represent well.

I’m not thinking that. Greens are more slow than soft. No divots on approach shots. Watch putts. They slow down pretty rapidly at the end. On Fast greens, a putt loses speed much more gradually.
