You don't take the ball in the hope the D gets you a 3 and out and better field position. And then all you need a FG to win because they've already had possession.

Or they score a TD and it’s over.
Or they score a FG then you have to score a FG next drive and lose it not.

If you take the ball - you could score a TD and win.
Score a FG and force them to get a FG
Get a 3 and out and punt.

Every coach every time you take the ball and control the game yourself.
Especially if you want to “minimize risk” instead of playing to win.

What was more likely in that game, the O scoring TD or the D getting a 3 and out?

Why do people keep saying to not take the ball in OT?

What exactly is the game plan - hope the defense runs out the clock and play for a tie?
The defense that just gave up 50 yards to Zach Wilson on 2 plays?

They literally spent the entire game running out the clock.
They didn't pass the ball in regulation after getting the lead. 23 straight runs.

At some point you need to actually try and score points to win a game.
If not in OT, then when?
I think that plan is only a consideration in hindsight given Dabol's complete lack of faith in his QB to throw the ball.

In normal situations it's never considered.

Every time you have a functioning QB and an offense that doesn’t have minus passing yards at game’s conclusion.
It was dumb to take the ball in this case.
There’s no way you watched the game Nick.😊

Imagine the crap Daboll would take if he didn’t take the ball. I believe the Jets would have scored a TD instead of FG if they had first possession anyway since the Giants D was done. At least the Giants had a chance on offense.

Did you watch the game and observe the Giants ability to drive the field against arguably one of the better defenses in the league?
Using analytics what was the best chance and scenario for the Giants to win in OT, given what took place on the field for 60 minutes prior.

You always take take the ball in OT (NFL). Period.

But this game, and more importantly how they were called the plays, makes it a fair question.

IMO, if they weren't going to let the kid throw downfield, which they didn't, they should've started on defense and made the Jets beat them.

If they were going to run a legit offense in OT and play to win, then you take the ball.

Of course.
This game was a one off.

And we could argue whether it should have been. But Daboll was playing it that way, and thus we consider doing something so far out of the norm.

Surprised we haven't heard more comparisons to Judge and whatever that ridiculous 3rd down play was.

Somebody please tell me the last time you saw an NFL team with a quarterback that they were afraid to let throw the ball.

I did and I agree with you about the Giants offense...and the analytics. For all teams except the Giants it makes sense to take the ball first position in OT. That being said, the NY press would have killed him if he went on D and the Jets scored first. How bad does it look for an offensive guy afraid to play offense? That is the bigger issue here.

Can't believe the backwards thinking.

A bad offense needs MORE chances to score. Not LESS.
"The Giants offense is bad. They should opt to have even less chances of scoring then."

What exactly is the plan after this 3 and out?
Let me guess, try to score? That's exactly why you get the ball in the first place.
To give yourself more chances to score.
Jets go 3 and out. Suppose they get 0 yards are punt from the 25.
Giants get the ball at their own 30?
You are basically in the exact same situation - except now you risked the Jets scoring on their drive.
You gave them a free chance to win the game or severely limit the Giants chances of winning.

Alternatively, suppose the 3 and out fails:
If the Jets kick a FG, now you get a KO and HAVE to score on only 1 drive.
If the Jets score a TD, then game over.
Or the Jets punt you end up in even worse field position than getting a KO.

The reason you always take the ball - even with a bad offense - is to increase the chances of scoring to win the game.
You can't win the game without scoring.

On social media you can tell Leonard Williams was a very populaR player with team and fans.
Williams was happy with the way GM handled the trade (compared to Jets)

'Dexter Lawrence, who made for an elite interior defensive line in his time playing with Williams, praised his former teammate, saying, “You cannot replace Leonard.”

“I don’t want to hear the things about how do we replace Leonard? You can’t replace Leonard, he’s only one of one. So, the next guys got to step up and do their job,” Lawrence said."

Down goes Glass Joe again. One whole quarter, he drops back and trips over the 20yd. line. Can we just forfeit?

What an embarrassment this organization is.

I get the DJ injury, but look at Vegas….interim head coach, OC who has never called a game before, QB most haven’t heard of, and they have energy & fight. We get another half with zero points.

Jones is never going to last
How Amazing Eli looks for never getting hurt and missing games.
Jones and Barkley might want to invest in gold, crypto, Chinese real estate etc and open a sports medicine clinic

I believe Chinese real estate is down about 30% this year. Sports medicine would be more promising.

Actually, playing behind that OL he earned every penny.
The first time yes, this time? He just fell down on his own, then fell down again on the next play holding his knee. He might be done for the year and I'm still not sure how he twisted it. He's going to turn out to be a huge waste of money and the butt of many jokes.

I think it happened when he tried to avoid Cager and trying to avoid the sack at the same time. He planted funny and didn’t look good getting up. Probably should have come out then, but wouldn’t have made a difference.

I feel bad for him too. Injuries are just bad luck sometimes. It’s not like the guy doesn’t work hard and is out of shape coming into camp each year.

By the way, Skyfall is currently running on two channels. It just started on AMC network. The other has been going on for an hour and a half on FOX.

Yup, I noticed that as well. Imagine if the trade deadline was this week and Jones does in fact have a ACL injury. Got to think Schoen would've traded almost everyone.

The announcers said as he was headed towards the medical tent he told Barkley "It just buckled". I think the injury happened on the first time

It’s weird but I was thinking that too. He would’ve been totally aggressive trying to stockpile picks.
