Not a good start for the US, down 1-0 to the Dutch, who look like the better team, so far. Well deserved goal, shredding our defense and midfield. Wake up call.

US players are making tons of individual mistakes in defending. Positional mistakes and, as a result, a lot of diving in and getting beat. They’re doing it so consistently, it makes me wonder what’s going on.

Defensive shape is regularly awful. I lost count of how many times they got caught with multiple players aligned horizontally across the field, which the Dutch players are taking advantage of every time, as they’re supposed to.

Their crisp midfield passing is going to wear down the US

Carli Lloyd just said it well, saying she was going to "bring her Jersey bluntness" and following that up with saying we looked tired and flat and were lacking in urgency and heart, so far, in addition to some technical mistakes. That rarely happened when she was on the pitch.

The commentator woman in blue knows her stuff. The other two, “need to play with heart” and whatever Lalas babbled, was useless. Is that Carly Lloyd commentating with Lalas?

Yes, that's Carli. Spell it right you Neanderthal. Thought her comments were spot on - we were certainly flat and tired looking.

Nah, she mostly said a bunch of rah rah BS. Of course the team looked like it lacked urgency and they look tired, that always happens when you‘re out of position all the time.

Coach has to make some adjustments and get the team to maintain their shape and positioning better. That prevents all the late defending which prevents running themselves into the ground and then everything becomes so much easier.

I’m not gonna spell her name right until she says something useful. The lady in blue is the only one with anything interesting and useful to say among the three of ‘em.

Yet another case of two us defenders forming a line, creating a passing lane you could drive an aircraft carrier through, and seeing a 30 yard pass behind them, taking them both out of the defense. WTF.

The lady in blue is Ariane Hingst, a two time WC champion . (Germany, 2003 and 2007)

US ties it up! We've looked much better the last 5-10 minutes - more aggressive...

Where are Rose and Megan ?
Rose subbed in at the start of the 2nd half and promptly made a rash challenge and got a yellow card, while Rapinoe is likely coming off the bench in most games, as she's only got so many minutes in her at age 38.

Set pieces have been the sole positive for the US. Still making a lot of the same mistakes that hurt so much in the first half. Can’t keep up this pace for a whole half, but maybe we can wear down the Dutch before we run out of steam.

Ertz likely just saved a goal - great individual defensive play after a really nice possession by the Dutch to get a great shot.

I know you know more about tactics and such, but I honestly think you're off-base on this, as we've been dominating for 25+ minutes now and much of that is simply due to the US playing with far more energy and aggression than in the first half. Hustle is creating a ton of opportunities for us.

US was out-hustling them up until I posted, but not playing well technically or tactically yet. But things have improved, offensively, since then.

We’ll take it. Nederlands had extra pep in their step and the US ladies were making some sloppy passes down field. Clean it up and just play normal like they have all their careers in every drill and academy theyve all been through and we’ll be alright

Assuming that Portugal beats Vietnam, US will need a draw against Portugal to advance.

To win the group, they will likely need to beat Portugal and have a superior goal difference over the Netherlands (currently +2).

If they win the group, they will play the second place team in Group G. If the finish second, they get the Group G winner. Probably either Sweden or Italy.

Liked Alexi's point about the NED player "poking the bear" by mixing it up with Horan, which really fired her up, which fired the team up, and we scored shortly thereafter and dominated the rest of the game with much more energy and aggression. Also agreed with their questioning of why only 1 sub, especially when we didn't play well at all in the first half - we have depth.

Horan has a couple of goals, but she's been horrible in the first two games from a team shape perspective. She seems to have no concept of space and is constantly getting dragged out of position. The Dutch goal was because the whole left side was a shambles.
