I have a friend whose daughter is going on a recruiting trip to Belhaven for soccer. They are texans, and I don't think they have stayed in Jackson before.

What are suggestions for staying where they would have a good time/place to stay during the visit?

Much appreciated.

Fairview Inn is nice and walking distance from Belhaven.

It located across State St from Milsaps. Ive stayed before and have friends that live very close. Sophias is the restaurant at the hotel and it is very good.

Safest and cheapest would probably be at Candlewood or Holiday Inn in Flowood

They can walk to Table 100, Ichiban, Aladdin, Georgia Blue, Cups, Jo's, or hop in the car and cross the street to a lot of places. Not a bad drive into Jackson Proper either. Closest hotel (that's not the Fairview Inn) to Belhaven College would be the Cabot Lodge on State between Woodrow Wilson and Peachtree. Really short drives to Keiffer's, CS's, The Manship, Pizza Shack, Fenians, Basils, La Cazuela, Wingstop, another Alladin, Sal and Mookies, Babalu, Nick's, Walkers, Que Sera, Cafe Ole, Fondren Public, Brent's, and some others I'm probably forgetting. If you ask catvet, he'd suggest she go to Oral Roberts or Liberty University. On second thought, they are probably intimidated by women who play sports. So maybe Phoenix online.

I live in belhaven. Someone mentioned fair view inn, and that is a good spot. The Capitol inn is a really good spot as well. I would stick with those 2. Both are nice and not outrageously priced.

If they're flying

in, there are a ton of hotels right off Airport Road on Lakeland Drive, as Sesh suggested. Come to think of it, that would probably be their best bet, even if they're driving.

I'm with Sesh. Stay in Flowood at the Holiday Inn express, Hampton Inn, or comfort suites. They are all at Dogwood and not really that far from Belhaven. You will sleep better at night. If you want to go eat at any of those places in Jackson go for it. But rest your head in Flowood. My opinion anyway

Are they flying or driving? Since they are from TX, I'd recommend they stay in Flowood if they are driving from Tx. If flying the Cabot Lodge is perfect.

If you're driving and it's between Flowood and Ridgeland, I'd go with Ridgeland. There's an HGI and an Embassy Suites in Ridgeland by the Renaissance mall, and I'd rather hop on I-55 than drive down Lakeland every day of the week.

The biggest advantage staying in the Dogwood section of Flowood would be Table 100 which may be one of the most underrated restaurants in Jackson.

They are driving in on 20. I thought about flowood, and said that but I wasn't sure how far it was from the belhaven campus.

I had a friend suggest pearl by the bass pro shops because of the new outlet malls. I passed all the info along.

Yeah the Holiday Inn express next to oulet mall would be good. But so is Renaissance area -quick commute from there.

I don't live in Jackson but I stay there with my job quite a bit. I always stay in the same area and often rotate between several hotels... I always stay county line road area... Cabot Lodge North, Homewood Suites (Hilton), Courtyard... And sometimes the Hilton... Several good eating choices nearby a few you can walk to as well... Nice thing about Jackson is you can be anywhere in bout 15-20 minute drive time.

If not in actual jackson, I'd go with ridgeland too. Hop on 220 coming in and you'll be right there. Plenty of restaurants right there or eat down by campus. I assume they'd be spending most of their time on campus or in the immediate surrounding area.

17 LAKELAND.

I would never stay in the County Line Area. Fairview Inn or Capital Inn if Jackson, but Madison/Ridgeland area is best (near Renaissance) - Embassy Suites on Highland Colony or Hilton Garden Inn in Madison - much better area than Flowood.

1. Hilton Garden Inn - Madison
2a. Embassy Suites - Ridgeland
2b. Home2 (Hilton) - Ridgeland - Brand new

The Ridgeland and Flowood (Dogwood) areas are probably the same driving distance from the Belhaven campus. Unless they are addicted to Hilton Garden Inn it may be unnecessarily far.

The Flowood area has more concentrated food options but the hotels are probably a notch or two below the Ridgeland ones.

Do people that go to Belhaven live near it? If so, I'd stay at Fairview so that she can get a feel for the area. If all the Belhaven students commute in from Ridgeland or Flowood, then it probably doesn't matter, but if I were her I would want to know what the campus area is like at night and get a feel for whether she'd be comfortable living in the area.

Stay near the school

Farview Inn or the Cabot Lodge.

The Farview Inn just remodeled their restaurant and now it is called 1908 Provisions and it's great.
They also have a bar called the Library Lounge.

I just don't get all the hate for Jackson on this board.

Mick Jagger just stayed at the Fairview Inn..

Agreed 100 percent. If they're looking at Belhaven, they need to know what the neighborhood is like.

I'd go with the closer ones. You make an excellent point that that allows them to see what the school is really like. Its a neat neighborhood.

yep, I think they have given her the option to stay in the dorms if she wants. She's a pretty good soccer player from what I understand. Same juco as Jeremy Chappelle and Will Coleman. Pretty good program, womens soccer national championships in '09 and '11.

I think a lot of their players end up staying near the school. I've had a player play there recently, they have early morning workouts so it's more convenient there. Shouldn't have a problem in the dorms.

She's been recruited before, so she probably knows the process, but I've been through the process several times with players if they need advice. Main thing with girl's soccer is to see if you and the coach have the same views on games, training, etc. and to talk with the other girls and see what they're like. If you hate the coach, you'll be miserable. If you hate your teammates, you'll be miserable.

Had one that went there and loved it, one that went there and hated it- I could have told both in advance that just based on knowing them. Make sure and ask the important questions and be comfortable in knowing that it's the absolute best fit.

Fairview or Cabot lodge, easy decision. All you pussies who are suggesting the burbs are well, pussies. Tell them to go eat at the manship, basils, walkers, nicks, sal and mookies and walk around the belhaven or fondren area to check out the area that she may be attending college for the next 4 years. That is the entire point of the visit isn't it?

Walkers has the best steak I've ever eaten. Bone in filet is legit.
