Is this being reported more now because of the initial story? Is it because there are more flights at night and the need is more for late night shifts. Just seems to me this has probably been a problem before.

Difference is that it was never really reported. The FAA would get complaints and then punish the individual or whoever is running the tower but would never report on it.

Once it happened and hit the media, I am sure reporters have started digging and now the FAA is left with no other option but to report the incidents.

Don't you know the flight controllers are pissed because they had a pretty sweet gig, they were getting paid to sleep.

Sleeping at that job should be considered attempted involuntary man slaughter. I don't know if that's a law or not but it should be.

Just Saying!

Have you noticed mass bird deaths have stopped? Also, attractive white women are no longer missing (but have been killed by a serial killer).

seems like it would be easy enough to implement an alarm or a buzzer that a pilot could sound whenever contacting tower control if they aren't getting a response? at least for the graveyard shift?

has taken a back seat to government shutdowns and such.

And apparently Haiti has completely recovered.

And bird flu must have been totally cured.

dammit we got funding to cut to programs that actually do the public a lot of good and save the country a lot of money in the long term. and more tax breaks to give big business without the contingency that they get those tax breaks by bringing jobs back to america. no time to worry about people dying.
