This guy appears to be the next stud pitcher for the braves. He's pitching really well since getting in the rotation. His era is down to 2.61. His emergence could be bad news for former bulldog maholm. I personally think braves go to 6-man rotation to rest all the pitchers some with huge division lead.

No win for him now.

Not sure why not bring in Kimbrel to get 4 outs instead of 3?...with a 1 run lead w/2 outs in top of 8th. Now it's tied and may lose this one.

They've plunked Bryce Harper twice tonight. He's gettin' tired of that ****. Not sure what's going on. Bad blood still emanating from last time?

On another Braves note...they need to invent a new award for Andrelton Simmons....like a "platinum" glove. He's the best fielding SS I've seen since ozzy smith. Jeter fans will disagree, I guess.

Simmons is the best for sure. Did you see janish's play in the 9th? I wish janish could hit just a little bc a janish Simmons middle infield would be a stone wall up the middle

That was a nice play. Clutch play as well. No doubt, Simmons is the best SS I've seen since the wizard and has potential to better than. Yeah and I for sure didn't agree with bringing in Ayala to face red hot Werth in that situation. DUMB move!

You are absolutely correct. Jeter is an overrated shortstop defensively. Don't get me wrong; he is an excellent overall SS (and has grown to be the player that I respect the most and actually now root for him....and only him on the Yankees) and an obvious first-ballet HOFer. That is without question. He has also had his share of absolutely spectacular defensive plays. But, he didn't deserve some/most of the gold gloves he's gotten. Hell, ARod was considered a better defensive SS when he first signed with NY.

Case in point: http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2...-all-but-four-shortstops-in-baseball-history/

Simmons, defensively speaking, is on another level...

probably to limit CK's innings with such a huge lead. coming in in the 8th, then resting and reheating the arm in the 9th really does work the arm more than just an additional out, IMO, but i'm not basing that on anything other than my gut.

yeah, both those plunking's were obvious, and given the close game were clearly to send a message. retaliation tomorrow is a given.

Haha. Did you notice how quickly JUp ran bases on hr last night? There was no trot whatsoever. He knows he's a likely target and didnt wanna give any reason at all IMO

Just hoping Strasburg aims low. Triple digits could leave quite a mark on a very important bat. Definitely not a fan of the Braves continuing to go after Harper when they're the only team with anything to lose.

If the Braves sweep their magic number will be 22 on August 18th.

That's absolutely unreal. We've been lucky with the teams in our division being pretty crappy, but having a .615 winning percentage is pretty damn good no matter who you play.

I'm also very interested to see who gets the 3rd spot in the playoff rotation. Definitely gonna be Minor and Teheran going 1-2, but Medlen is looking better, Beachy is getting back in form, and Alex Wood has an ERA of 1.00 in his last 3 starts. Doubt Wood gets it just based off of not having as much pitching experience as the other two, so I'm guessing it will be Medlen since he's the only one on the roster with a playoff start if you count that dumbass Wild Card play in game last year.

I would definitely work Gattis in a bit more. I would want to see before October if he's in a slump that he can work out of, or if he's been figured out and can't adjust. No reason he can't play 5 games a week, 2 at C, 1 at 1B, and with days off for any of the OFs.

The manager is a fool if he doesn't play Gattis today at C. let him be the enforcer if there's a brawl, and give one less target to risk getting hurt.

To add to that we are 34-18 against our division opponents and 33-20 against the NL Central and West 8-9 against American League so yeah we definitely held our own against more than our division I have to keep reminding my Reds buddies. Being in our division is only helping us this last month of baseball but I feel way more confident with this team going into post season than any of the others the past 3 years.

a little more forgiveable with a RH pitcher, especially since he seems to have decided to work Schafer in.

They

better hope they don't run into LA, which may be inevitable. They're (LA) 42-8 since the AS break.

Yeah

I misread an article. I guess it was saying in their last 50. Point remains, I don't think the braves (or anyone) want to see them.

Yeah the Braves are 5-2 against the Dodgers on the year. Both teams are different teams now, yes, both are better teams. I hope we meet in the playoffs and I hope it's in the NLCS. Braves need to hang on to the top spot in the league.

Yeah that was their last 50 and that's just a sick record. The dodgers are very good. The braves need to hold onto home field where they have best record in mlb at home
