South Central Zone here. Which is south of 20, east of 55 and west of 49 and runs all the way to the Louisiana line and Gulf.

Anybody else get a tag?

I took the manditory class last weekend. Lots of rules to kill a dang lizard!

I missed out this year but was drawn last year. It's not as easy as I thought it would be, we only got one small one. It's a lot of fun though. Make sure your spotlights are red and give up on of too soon. That was our problem, we were impatient because we were seeing so many of them and once we'd leave they'd immediately resurface.

Do tell. Specifically about private land. We're covered up with em, delta county.

Also, I've heard starting this year on private land you can hunt deer with any rifle during the rut. Anyone know for sure?

Not until 2014 for that...

As far as gator's go my neighbor got a permit.
I just shoot them when they are in my parents' lake. I have fried and smoked a few gator tails..
The local game warden got tired of coming out and said just take care of them and don't tell him about it..

Although that primitive weapon law may have passed I believe it does not go into effect until July 2014. Even then it does not affect the November primitive weapon season which will continue under current primitive weapon rules. It only applies to the Dec (mid-season) and Jan (late season) dates.

2013-2013 MDWFP Regs http://www.mdwfp.com/media/7311/hunting_seasons.pdf

MS Sportsman Mag article describing the new regs- http://www.ms-sportsman.com/details.php?id=2245

The new crossbow law is in effect. Crossbow hunting is legal anytime archery hunting is legal. The 2013-2014 MDWFP explicitly includes crossbows in the list of legal archery weapons.

I've got private land permits again this year in the South Central Zone. I took 2 six footers last year and we figured out that was akin to shooting spikes. Gonna try to hold out for something bigger this year.

We did learn to be patient once you're on a gator. The first time they go down they can stay under for 45 minutes or more. After that they wear out and start having to come up for air more often. Stay on him!

Yes, red spot lights. The are unseen to the gators. It's harder to pick them up but they won't submerge like they will if you keep a regular light on them. We would pick them up with the white bulbs then go to the red lights. If y'all haven't been, it's really hard, at least for me. I would recommend using a bow if possible, throwing the hooks aren't as easy as you'd think. Go to bullnettlenews.com and go to their forums. Amazing sight. It's a ms outdoors page and they have all sorts of forums and one of them is for gator hunting. It's where I learned a lot from last year.
