I've never played football or had to take a hit like this so I'll fondly remember the "good ole' days".

Crazy watching these old hits.

Most of those are not really that old. I am not a big fan of how extreme the penalties have become now, but I used to cringe at a lot of those hits back in their day. The game definitely changed in the 90's - early 2010's with the headshots. Those I can do without those.

Someone on tMB played the opening for "The NFL Today" (CBS) from 1977.

love it, don't want anyone hurt of course but it's a rough sport.

Ya, way back when, I thought those type of hits were awesome, but they were fairly rare, but then those big hits became a common occurrence and it certainly seemed like it was only a matter of time before someone was seriously hurt. As it turned out, even the guys that got up were incurring serious injuries.

Who here remembers ESPN’s “You got Jacked Up!”
Basically celebrated players getting concussed…lol
The game was definitely getting crazy with guys like Brian Dawkins using their body like a missile…

I vaguely remember a Rutgers safety blowing guys up, I think during the Flood era, and I was thinking, when a bad college team has a guy doing this, it probably needs to get reigned it.

Joe Lefeged ran a mean corner blitz
He made other coaches angry and accused RU of being dirty

"In the first month of his freshman year, he delivered a punishing blow to Maryland quarterback Jordan Steffy, which knocked him out of the game. The helmet-to-helmet hit was so vicious that Terps coach Ralph Friedgen accused Lefeged of intentionally trying to hurt Steffy, though Greg Schiano took exception to that claim."

Lefeged was one of the players who later said he was having trouble playing after EL injury
