Save your money. Those cases that claim they'll save your phone from being cracked or whatever are expensive as hell and make having an iPhone miserable because it becomes the size of a small computer with it on. The Life Proofs are suppose to be waterproof too but they're not. Not that I would deliberately take my phone into the water but I've had friends who have taken theirs into the shower to listen to music and they say it ruined their phone.

Just by an acrylic case and try not to drop it. I've had my 4 for 2 years now and I've dropped it 100 times and it's never broken.

Otterbox defender has saved my phone so many times. I know a guy who has an Otterbox Armor. It went through a combine and out the back with nothing wrong with it.

I have a Rokform case w a stick on screen protector. Works great. And it comes with a little magnet on the back which comes in handy quite often. Dropped my phone a million times no problems at all. They run about 30 bucks.

Or get it wet

Bump because I have had the thing since Thursday, waiting for case to arrive via amazon. Knocked it off the coffee table last night, and the screen 17ing shattered. The technology this thing has is amazing. The durability can only be this poor intentionally. I'm 17ing pissed.

Nolan Ryan could have pitched my android at a brick wall, and it would have been fine.

I did not get apple care. I imagine I will end up paying more to fix the screen than I did for the phone.

Ugh. Not good. You bought your 5s in the store then and not online then. I hardly ever used my tablet when I bought it earlier this year until the otterbox case for it arrived from Amazon.

Did you get Apple Care? I would have not got a case if you did get Apple Care.

Apple Care is the ONLY way to go. It's well worth the $99. And I don't ever worry about putting it in a bulky case. I just burned my last apple care use for my current phone. Only have 2 more months before I'm due an upgrade though.

May I ask why you made that switch?

Had a galaxy s that was old and just out of date and struggling. I was eligible for a new phone and decided to just go for what I thought was the best phone on the market. Like I've said, the things this phone is capable of (software wise) are amazing, but I cannot believe how fragile it is.

Eta: we are talking about a 1.5 foot fall here. Also, free schadenfreude for every android user!

DS, what's the story with Apple Care? I know what it is but as far as replacements go, if you scratch or dent your phone, can you swap it out?

As long as you don't lose your phone entirely, they will replace your phone for $79. So you can run over it, throw it in the toilet, etc as long as you still have it.

But after reading, you are covered for 1 year anyway. So you are paying $100 for 1 years worth of insurance - the 2nd year. Looks like I got hustled.

Good rule of thumb. You're always going to get screwed by paying for an extended warranty (or in this case Apple Care). eplnanade is right, just a regular otter box ($20 or so) and be careful with the phone and you should be fine. MSUDawg25 is right too. There's no way Apple didn't make them this fragile on purpose. They're literally designed to be as breakable as possible.

I was an android user for a while and finally switched to Iphone when the 4 came out. At first I didnt like it due to the android app market being 10x better. Now I'm ok with the iphone. They have improved the apps some. The biggest advantage to Iphone is that everybody has them and the Imessage group messaging, pic/video messaging is pretty cool. I had this same case for 2 years and just got a new one b/c my 5s won't fit in the 4
case but it's the same thing. I love this case

It must have landed in the perfect spot for a break. I've had iPhones for the past 4 years and barely case them...I've never broken the glass and I've had some impressive drops.

Mophie Juice Pack. Doubles the life of my phone. I can get 36-48 hours without a charge.

Not waterproof though. I don't text and scuba dive.

I like the iMessaging. If I'm just messaging one person. If I try to send texts to a group or receive a group text, sometimes it works, but most times it doesn't. If I try to send a group text, at least I get a message that it failed. If someone tries to send me one, I never know unless someone asks me about it. Extremely frustrating and a very basic function of any phone. I've tried to get C-Spire to fix it twice but no luck. Not sure if it's Apple or C-Spire, but one of them is failing miserably. I'm thinking of switching to Verizion and Android when my contract is up.
