Yeah Ken Young was who I meant...Perhaps Young holds off Harrell- no way does he hold Bender off IMO....

Who was Duke's 2nd African- American player in basketball?

C.B. Claiborne was the first. He was a walk-on.

Don Blackman was the first recruited African American and the second to suit up.

Blackman transferred to Rhode Island after his sophomore season.

We were classmates. The freshman team of Blackman, Stu Yarborough, Robby West and Pat Doughty (and the walk-ons) went 5-13.

Who was their coach?

I'm confused. Too many questions going on at one time. Can we get it back to one at a time. OFC

The question at hand is who coached the 1969 Duke freshman team to a 5-13 record.

I'll give you a hint. He's in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame

Is it a trick question . Vic Bubas. I know there was another great coach there about the same time but I can't get his name into my head so I'm taking a shot with Bubas. OFC

Danged it just came to me. It's Hubie Brown. OFC

The confusion started with the Laettner free-throw question against UNLV. harttochesson got it right, however, Buckin replied and said, "You got it." The message right above Buckin's response came from sgrooms, so naturally he thought it was his turn. He asked a question and I got it right, and then I asked a question.... Fun keeping track of all this, eh?

Okay guys sorry about the delay. Here goes. 4 parts
1. Who was MLB's first $100,00.00 player
2. Who was MLB's first $ 1 million dollar player.
3. Who was MLB's first $ 10 million dollar player.

Bonus if you can give me the year and the team. Some of you will get partial answers correct. The winner will be the one who gives me the most correct answers. If you give up I will need three of you tell me that you're not worthy to answer the question fully and I will appoint one of you to give the next question. OFC

I'm guessing they're all Yankees

1. Babe Ruth - 1930
2. Reggie Jackson - 1978
3. David Cone - 1996

None of them were Yankees. Two of them are still living. Two of the are in the HOF and one may never make it. OFC

Willie Mays
Pete Rose

Are two of three I submit...

OFC

Neither one of those guys. I really want one of you to get the answer so here are some more hints. The first one got his in 1947, the second in 1979 and the third in 1996. OFC.

The first would be either Ted Williams or Stan Musial, I suspect.

Williams would be my guess. But the Red Sox were notorious cheapskates.

Nolan Ryan was the second.

But I'm stumped on the third. Too early for ARod. Was it Bonds?

Nolan Ryan is indeed the second. The other two are hard and to be honest I looked the question up. My original question was to be who was the 1st $100,000.00 baseball player. I had guessed my self and was wrong. Then I saw the salary scale of the first players that reached a certain level, the salary and the year I limited my question to the first three levels. The first 20 million player is interesting and I doubt he makes the HOF either but he played for the Red Sox. OFC

Okay Jim got the second in Nolan Ryan.
The next hints are the first one played for the Pirates and the third played for the White Sox. OFC

Hank Greenberg? Al Rosen? Rosen didn't really become a star until later so I'll go with Greenberg.

The White Sox? Don't Call Me Joey gives it away. The infamous Albert Belle.

You are the man Jim. I know you will come up with a zinger. Just for fun can anyone answer the player I mentioned that was the first 20 million dollar player that played for the Red Sox and may not make the HOF. OFC

Fred Lynn?

All of this reminds me of a Babe Ruth story.

Ruth was coming off one of his great seasons, late 1920s or early 1930s. He and Jake Rupert were discussing his salary for the upcoming season.

Ruth demanded a huge raise. The shocked Rupert responded "why, Babe, that's more money than the president [Hoover, I believe] made last season."

Ruth's response. "Well, I had a better year than the president."

He did get a raise. But not more than the president.

Not Fred "The Aqua Velva Man." He signed in the year 2000. I watched him play in the Appalachian Rookie League when he was 18. OFC
