A school has put two players on the AP 1st Team All-American in the same year nine different times. Name the school and the respective players from each duo. I'm not sure anyone will get all 9, so I'll take whoever can get the most.

Here's a little hint as far as the time period for each duo of All-Americans:

2010-present: Once
2000-2009: Twice
1990's: Three times
1980's: Once
1970's: Once
1940's: Once

1940s-Alex Groza, Ralph Beard-Kentucky
1970s-Bill Walton, Keith Wilkes-UCLA
1980s-Michael Jordan, Sam Perkins-UNC
1990s-Raef LaFrentz, Paul Pierce-Kansas; Larry Johnson, Stacey Augmon-UNLV
2000s-Jason Williams, Shane Battier-Duke; J.J. Redick, Shelden Williams, Duke
2010-John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins-UK

Can't come up with the other 1990s

Unless it was Antawn Jamison and Vince Carter, UNC

Wow. Very Impressive. I'll go ahead and give you credit for that, Jim.

The only one you missed was Miles Simon and Mike Bibby in 1998, which was the same year as LaFrentz/Pierce. Pretty Crazy that Kansas/Arizona represented 4 of the 5 1st-teamers that year and neither team made it to the FF.

No doubt! 2 for 2! Pretty crazy to do it twice in a six-year span. Now if I included the NABC 1st Team All-Americans, we'd also have 1999 and 2002 on that list with the additions of Trajan Langdon and Mike Dunleavy, respectively.

I guess I'm up.

We've discussed Jeff Mullins and his 43-point game against Villanova in the 1964 East Regional.

One of that Villanova team's best players has two relatives who played basketball for Duke.

Name the three players.

The Melchionnis....

Billy, Gary & Lee

Excellent.

Bill's other brothers, Tom and Bob also played for Villanova. But they didn't offer Gary, who is the youngest. He had traveled to Raleigh to watch that '64 game as a seventh-grader and was sufficiently impressed with Duke that he was receptive when Duke recruited him.

Bubas recruited Gary Melchionni, along with Alan Shaw, Richie O'Connor, Jeff Dawson and Jim Fitzsimmons, who produced an undefeated freshman team in 1970. But by the time they signed, Waters had replaced Bubas.

Thanks Jim and can only imagine if Vic had coached all those guys....

Ok....I will come up with a question for the group!

You all are walking encyclopedias. It amazes me how much you remember. The details you remember from the 60's, I can't even remember from a decade ago.

Grooms thx but I can't hold a candle to Jim Sumner....very few can...I put him in the same class as the late Bill Brill, as a journalist and knowledge of Duke athletics...

If you look at MEMBER SCHOOLS NOW in the ACC, there was only ONE year in the 80's a school from the CURRENT CONFERENCE MEMBERSHIP WAS NOT playing in the FINAL FOUR....(in other words Louisville qualifies even though they were not part of ACC in '86.)

Can you recall the year and schools in the LONE YEAR in the 80s w/no ACC connections??

1985- Villanova, Georgetown, St.John's, and one other school lol.

Can't remember the fourth school, but I know Duke/UNC/NC State/Syracuse/Louisville didn't make it 85, so I'm guessing it was someone from outside the current 15.

The Final Four MOP went to players from non-title teams three times in four years in the mid-60s, Art Heyman in 1963, Bill Bradley in 1965 and Chambers in 1966.

In fact, none of these guys even made the championship game.

Bradley scored 58 or so in a meaningless consolation game against Wichita State in which no one even pretended to play defense. Meanwhile, Gail Goodrich scored 42 in the championship game, a UCLA win over a very, very good Michigan team--Cazzie Russell, Bill Buntin.

And yet Bradley got the MOP. Curious.

Okay. Next question.

I've been sitting on this one for awhile.

Who was the first ACC player to be an early-entry in the NBA draft?

Bob McAdoo. Just a wild guess. Everyone is beating me to the draw although I don't know the answer anyway. I can't even get a guess off until now. Cheating is beginning to cross my mind.;)OFC

If this individual never PLAYED a game I can only think it might be the great Moses Malone...It seems like Lefty had recruited him at Maryland....I was w/Sky on Skip Wise, as I couldnt think of anyone else...This is just a shot in the dark...
