I am talking hardware on the towers. I also said they are about two years away from having the entire upgrade rolled out. Right now they can't compete network quality with the big two. I saying in two years it may be a different story. They have deployed their latest equipment in my office. Their data speed is 4 times faster then both AT&T and Verizon. However the network not mature or why spread enough for me to switch. In two years once the roll out is complete then it may be another story. The Ericson radios they are using are far better hardware then the big two are using. Unfortunately they have not rolled out enough of them.

What makes you think Verizon isn't deploying new, better hardware either? Because, they wI'll have 5g rolling out in two years. No one else is saying that.

US consumers overpay for cable and wireless, and it is subpar compared to a country like South Korea which has blazing fast wireless that is a lot cheaper. This is due to no real competition among carriers, especially cable companies which are granted monopolies.

And South Korea is a much smaller country than the US, so how can you even compare? The technology they use is being examined but rollout will take time and cost way more to deploy in a country the size of the US.

And this has nothing to do with alleged monopolies. The big boys are the only ones who can afford the tens of billions of dollars a year it costs to upgrade and maintain a wireless network across a country this size.

They also get billions of dollars in subsidies from taxpayers at both the state and federal level and consistently don't meet obligations associated with that money
And you know this because you did a detailed analysis or because you heard it somewhere?

I am watching T-Mobile very closely. They are currently deploying equipment on their towers that is head and shoulder better quality then what Verizon or AT&T has. They maybe about two years away to rivaling them on area covered but where they do have coverage it can't be beat.

My concern with T Mobile is that their primary focus feels like it is being acquired.... and what happens if they are

They've already had 2 attempts in the past few years and the government rejected both ATT and Sprint (owned by Softbank a Japanese telcom). The Japanese CEO wanted to combine the 2 to create scale and make it easier to bring those high speed networks similar to parts of Asia here but his efforts to lobby for the takeover failed. Not sure how he'll execute on that vision now. Something like that is actually the one thing I think would be a threat to the big cable companies, high speed wireless into the home.

John Legere, T Mobile's CEO, is a little bit of a "wacky" guy but he's forcing ATT/Verizon to match him to a degree. He's willing to make less or lose money in order to gain market share and it's been working to a degree so ATT/Verizon have had to address/match the price war he's creating. IMO for long term sustainability of that model though T Mobile's network has to improve and eventually if/when it does I would't be surprised to see price hikes in a reverse course down the line.

And you know this because you did a detailed analysis or because you heard it somewhere?

- Verizon promised PA they would connect every home & business in the state by 2015 in exchange for 2.1 billion in tax breaks
-- Fiber is only available in a very small portion of the state, but the state is letting them off the hook

- Verizon promised NYC they would connect every home & business in the city with fiber in exchange for charging every customer an extra $2/month fee
-- NYC is suing verizon for breaking their deal because they only have 75% covered and are past their deadline

-Verizon promised NJ they would connect every home in the state with fiber by 2010 in exchange for subsidies and tax breaks
-- Another promise broken

As you can see those are the ones I know off the top of my head, I'm sure there is much more. They have been robbing tax payers in the form of subsidies and tax breaks and then turn around and rob them again with outrageous service charges. Usually I am pro business and give them the benefit of the doubt but Verizon has a long history of doing this over and over again.

I didn't realize so many here worked for the various phone companies. You guys are making the PR department proud copying their talking points here.
