Is that what Advocare is? A workout plan?

I've seen so many commercials for it, and couldn't tell you if it was a sports drink or boat insurance.

I drink Spark everyday and I like it. It has replaced monster energy drinks for me. Haven't done the other stuff.

For me eliminating sugar, unhealthy snacking and drinking one slim fast shake for a meal did the job. I buy the powder kind, add fat free milk, a banana, a few ice cubes, mix in a blender and you have a thick shake.

The hardest part about any diet is just getting in a routine. And cutting back on the beer. :(

I lost about 20 lbs when I did it. Pro Tip: chug the fiber drink the second you make it. If you let it sit it turns to jello.

It's Cutco knives for housewives

It's a damn calorie reduction and exercise plan. Of course you lose weight when you follow the plan. And I'm sick of it being pushed on me by people at work.

Insanity rocks if you keep it up. I couldn't. I lost 65lbs though

Through a complicated plan of exercising more and eating less. I now take my dog for a walk a few times a week, and work short sprints into my walk. And I leave food on my plate, I don't eat everything. Occasionally I'll have cereal for dinner or something, but otherwise I haven't changed much. I'm 5lbs from high school weight, and lost 8" on my waist. Triglycerides cut in half, bad cholesterol down, good up, etc.

Just about everyone I know who has used one of those shake systems (myself included) puts the weight back on as soon as they quit using them. Want to lose weight and keep it off? Get the my fitness pal app for your phone and actually use it. Takes 5 minutes a day. You don't even have to "diet", just use it, I promise, if you use it, you'll change the way you eat and eventually you'll lose weight. Once you start seeing how many calories are in all the crap you eat/drink you'll know exactly why you're over-weight or at least I did.

It definitely is worth it

I made it through 7 weeks last time and then we added to the size of our family by two. I took a lot of time off. Am planning to do it twice this time and I also have the sports CD. I'm only ten lbs from high school weight but I was heavier then from lifting so I'm shooting for about 20 more. Hoping I can do that with 2 full rounds.

Absolutely. Am using that too right now.

On that note, you will have a HOLY **** moment if you look to see how many calories are in the chips at a normal Mexican restaurant. I used to pound at least one basket by myself and sometimes more than that.

First off... You don't go on a diet.

A diet is what you're already consuming. It's either really good, in the middle, or plain ******. Save yourself the money and just buy a low carb protein powder mix. Losing weight isn't rocket science...take in less calories that what you use everyday (you've got to be honest with yourself and track these) and quit being lazy.

Also if you're looking at really tracking your progress with a fitbit, nike armband etc.. then I suggest you check this link out. It blows the competition out of the water when it comes to tracking calories burned, heart rate, exercises, and how strenuous your routine is.

Only post that needs to be read in the thread. Discipline goes a loooong way.

My Fitness Pal may be the way to go for me as well. I work out often, especially after New Year. I basically do a Beach Body workout program and then try to maintain the rest of the year. I did P90X, Insanity, P90X2, and now I'm working my way through Body Beast. I've made some significant changes to my diet like always eating breakfast and not eating after 9:00 at night. That helps, but I could definitely do better.

I've also seen some success with friends using the Advocare products, but they are obnoxious as hell. I'm constantly seeing it posted on Facebook.

Same. I dropped 50 over the course of about a year just changing eating habits and a little exercise. For me, cutting out the obvious fast food was the big ticket. I will still eat out at Mexican/Pizza/etc now and then, I just am more conscious of what and how much I eat. College killed me.

ETA: The MyFitnessPal app works wonders as far as keeping you in line.

^^^ This, you have to realize this and avoid a "diet" ^^^

still eat out at Mexican/Pizza/etc now and then

You can do this, you just can't do this every meal or multiple nights a week. And like everyone else said, get off your *** and exercise.

This is overlooked way too often. Most don't understand how much of a kick-start your metabolism gets from just eating a good breakfast.

I didn't think it was a big deal until I started doing it consistently. I felt better and didn't devour everything in sight when lunchtime hit.

A bodybuilder told me to taper my meals. If you stick to three a day, then make breakfast the biggest and dinner the smallest.

No plan needed... I lost 65 pounds 6 years ago 230 down 165 by eating less and getting off my *** and working out. I would eat small breakfast ... Oatmeal or nutragrain bar and lean cuisine for lunch. Follow this up with whatever I wanted for supper bout modest amounts and never any seconds... I cut out soft drinks completely .... I dropped weight quickly... I'm back up to 180 now but I still watch what I eat and exercise ...I realized there wasn't any need to eat three big meals a day... That's insane when I look back at it and would crash at work if I ate large lunches again

This is correct... ^

"take in less calories that what you use everyday"

This is wrong ^

If you plan on losing weight and keeping it off then you have to prepare your metabolism and meals accordingly. By eating less calories your going to shut down your metabolism and gain weight if not stay the same. I'm getting ready to begin the Advocare challenge. I think the benefits behind it vs other diets is it promotes just what I've said. Eating more and boosting your metabolosim.

I use the Lose It app (I guess about the same as my fitness pal) and have noticed the same thing. There were things I was eating thinking it was not that bad, that equaled my recommended calorie intake for the day. That is the best thing about the apps, they put your food in perspective. One thing for me was fast food, and realizing that if I got chicken nuggets instead of the cheeseburger it would save over 500 calories. That goes a long way when trying to stay under 2000 in a day.

What? You literally cannot lose weight if you take in more calories than you burn. Therefore, if you have gained weight, and want to lose it, you MUST take in LESS calories than you have been. Boosting your metabolism is great, but it simply increases the amount of calories your body burns naturally, thereby letting you intake extra calories. If you want to lose weight and keep it off, you need to exercise, eat healthy and keep up with your net calorie count. When you reach the weight you want to stay at, you then need to keep eating well and exercising (because its good for you) but you can increase your calorie intake so the calorie net equals what has been burned each day.

I am using an app that is helping me track my eating habits.

/Maybe you had a reply fail.
//HD6's head is going to explode because I said that about reply failure.
///HD6 probably isn't reading this thread though (see what I did there?)

Enlighten me.... how does one prepare his metabolism? I thought the only good way to spike metabolism was through exercise...unless you're on the cocaine and caffeine diet.

For most people reading this thread who aren't bodybuilders, athletes, or train 5-7 times a week then your first problem is probably that you're eating too much. If you're fat, pudgy, or overweight then you should calculate your BMR (basal metabolic rate) and figure out how many calories a day your body requires in order to sustain homeostasis. From there it's simple.. 40-50% Carbs, 25-35% protein, 20-30% fat. Under 2500 mg of sodium and over 25 grams of fiber. Add some exercise to that equation and you'll be burning more calories than you're consuming and viola!!! Your fat *** gets skinny. If you already in shape and trying to burn extra fat then it becomes a lot tougher.

All Advocare is doing is giving you a high protein/fiber shake that makes you feel full.

And yes you are on a diet. Otherwise you're implying that you're not eating anything.

The thing that stick out to me was the sodium. When I lost 30 a couple of years ago I went heavy on the low fat turkey sandwiches for dinner to keep calories and fat down. But lunch meat is filled with sodium as is everything else I seem to eat. Of course a sedentary job is a killer for me. Before I got married, I lost 50 pounds in 5 months just by switching from dr pepper to diet dr pepper because I worked at Splash N Dash and was very active, but chugged at least 3 Route 44 Dr peppers a day from Sonic. That was 1800 calories a day that went away just by the switch which equated to about a pound every 2 days (3500 calories = a pound). Now I don't intake any calories via liquids, but my activity level is so much lower at a white collar job so I stay fat.
