Looking for advice on places to stay. Looks like either the Canyon area or Grant Village are our options for what we want to do. Any opinion on one over the other? May be a Father/son trip early next summer.

Yea I stayed in a tent for 3 nights in the park...it was incredible. We stayed at the Madison Campground (I think was the name). They also have some cabins in that same area I believe. We had a bear sighting in the campground while we were there, so the rangers had us all on high alert

A suggestion

Do not enter through the East gate. Go through Red Lodge, over Bear Tooth, through Cooke City and enter the Northeast gate. The park is great and more so on motorcycle. May want to spend a night in Cooke City.

I spent the summer between my freshman and sophomore year working at Lake Yellowstone. If you want to fish I can tell you some of my old honeyholes. I personally wouldn't spend a night at old faithful since once you've seen it go off there's not much else to do but watch tourist. PM me and I may can answer any questions.

PM sent, I think. This new board has me confused at times. Let me know if you didn't get it.

it's worth seeing the entire park, but to camp, go to the Slough Creek campground. there's a stream that runs through it with alot of cut throat trout. it's in the Lamar valley where you can park and watch for wolves in the morning/evening. hiking to the top of Mt. Sheridan is another cool place to go/thing to do.

you might as well go down to the Teton National Park while you're there and camp for a night or two at the Jenny Lake campground and take a hike or two in the tetons.
