customer service. Everybody has a new deal for you if you threaten to leave them. Everybody else has a new deal if you will transfer to them. Nobody seems to pay the same price as anybody else. I think that about sums it up. Not being a smart arse but thats the way the monthly cable thread on here seems to go. You won't get a consensus at all. I've been thinking of doing the same, you just gotta do it and ***** loud when the inevitable happens

I did just get off the phone with TW coincidentally, and they're upgrading me to their new "mocha" HDDVR boxes, whatever that means. And I must have bottomed out the discounts, I didn't even get another one this time.

that would cost a whole $10 per month more. They did recommend the new boxes though, we'll see how they are. I actually called because I want a stronger wireless router, but apparently I've got the best they have.

so far I really like UVerse. On top of the great per month price I got for their ultimate package(U450), which includes NFLRed Zone, They gave me 3 HDDVR boxes for no charge, and the install was free and didn't take too long.

Plus, UVerse comes with several features that are pretty cool, including a Fantasy Football feature (you only get Directv's if you have Sunday Ticket I think) if you are a fantasy football fan like me. The HD seems sharper if that's possible, and my Internet is faster with their new Internet upgrade. But I liked Directv's service while I had it....just didn't like the price for the amount of channels, the constant readjustment of my satellite that was needed, and the fact that even after 5 years of service they wouldn't do **** for me unless I wanted to threaten to leave, which I can't stand. I'm sure they all have pros and cons, but I'm going to give UVerse a shot and if it sucks, then fortunately I will get better rates by rejoining Directv than I would have as a loyal customer.

Oh yea, one more thing that may not matter to you.....with directv, if I changed the channel up or down there was a long hesitation, so you could never just scroll through channels. With UVerse, there is no hesitation so scrolling is easy. And you can actually click the sports feature and watch a show while the other sports channels scroll down the right side of your screen so you can see what all sports are on without taking it off your game. That is all....I'm sure my service will begin sucking tonight after this post.

F that. I'm perfectly happy with Time Warner. The cable never goes out, and if I want a new box I drop by the store and have a new one for free in five minutes. No waiting around for the guy to come by. I've also got it negotiated so low anywhere I go is a 25% increase at least, I've priced them all out. I almost went to Grande Communications, but their DVR boxes can't record multiple HD channels at once. The only thing I wish I had was Sunday Ticket.

I've had several friends try U-verse and I was thinking about trying it for the high speed internet but tey all reported that picture quality was bad. Seems odd considering the bandwidth they have, but all of them eventually switched. Take it for what it's worth.

Good to know about the NFL stuff, picture quality and internet speed. Good point about getting a deal if you eventually switch to Direct TV again. The lag when flipping through would get old also.

and the winner is Direct TV....no question, hands down better than U-Verse. Mine hardly ever went out. Of course, it went out about twice in bad storms during the six months I had it, but U-Verse has gone out more than that + customer service is awful.

Let me know if you find a good way to make the #*($%& receiver ignore SD channels. I went through the options and manually deleted each and every of the 100's of SD channels.

But SD is still popping up in places - such as in search results for a show.

On Dish, if you go to the program guide, you can select it to show All Channels (including the ones you don't subscribe to), All Subscribe (eliminates the ones you don't pay for, such as the Spanish channels), and All HD (shows the HD channels you subscribe to).<div>

Have had Direct TV for five years and love it. I live in Western Colorado and get most MSU games (at least SEC games) with my football and basketball packages. I also have NFL Sunday ticket which is fantastic. All the add ons are not cheap, but it's worth every penny. The only problem I have is reception during heavy snow which should not be a factor for most of the readers on the board. Whenever the snow builds up, I just take a broom and go out and sweep it off then it's ok. I have a friend who actually has installed a heater on his dish so he doesn't have to sweep it!

DirecTV had superior picture quality to U-Verse, also better than Comcast I've seen at other folks' homes. If TV/picture quality was my only concern I'd get DirecTV back pronto. That said, I was generally happy with U-Verse except that you're going to have slower internet.

The main receiver in my living room is 11 inches wide (much smaller than my Directv DVR box), and the one's in my bedrooms are about 9 inches wide (and they are both HD DVR as well).
