OT: AT&T U Verse

Didn't want to hijack a previous thread but what are your thoughts on AT&T U-verse? How is the service, the net speed, and what are the hidden costs? They are offering a bundle for $75' but guessing there is a bunch of costs for the sports channels, etc. what are your thoughts?

I got a 12mo deal for just under $120/mo. It includes Internet and the 450s TV package. The TV package is pretty much every station known to man....

I switched from DirecTV and Comcast internet a couple of years ago because my internet kept going out for hours at a time. I work remotely from home, so that was a huge problem.

The U-verse picture quality isn't as good as DTV, but it is acceptable. The amount of channels is about the same.

The internet connection is consistently a little slower than Comcast and can get pretty slow during peak hours, but it has been at least acceptable since I got it. Except for a couple of times when I've had to reboot my router, I don't think I've ever been completely without my internet connection.

I miss DTV, but not having to deal with Comcast anymore makes the switch worth it.

I have had Uverse TV and Internet for a year and a half and have had no complaints.

Disclaimer: I work for AT&T, so I can't speak to the non-employee pricing at all, but I've enjoyed it tremendously over Comcast.

Depends on where you live...

I lived in a subdivision that had the fiber optic to the entrance, but it was coax after that since the subdivision was there before Uverse was. Some places may just have coax all the way. The house I just moved into has fiber optic all the way to the house. There is a noticeable difference in the internet, and I was kinda shocked by how much. Less errors for the TV service as well and the picture is much better. My service now is the internet speed just below the fastest they provide, U300, total home DVR, and two of my receivers are wireless. Since install, I've had to unplug and plug back in one of the wireless receivers just once because it wasn't picking up the signal, so it's pretty much working great. The big downside.... ATT customer service. If you have a problem, good freaking luck. I never get anything fixed until I've thrown about 3 twitter rants. However, when working properly (and it has for like 99% of the time), I think it is light years better than anything else. Comcast is atrocious. DTV is good, but the internet always sucked. I do miss the DTV customer service.

Had U-verse for 14 months in New Orleans. I switched from Cox Cable (high tier cable and internet) to the highest tier U-verse and internet. Great deal when I signed. I work at a college so I received a discount on top of the Visa cards. Installation went off like a dream. Picture quality every bit as good as Cox. I have so many HD channels I can't remember watching an SD channel. My internet download speeds not as fast as Cox, but Cox was deceptive in what they offered vs what they delivered. I have reset my U-verse modem maybe once in 14 months whereas with Cox, once a month. Now, the bad. Rates have been jacked up 50 bucks a month. I still don't regret the move. I live alone and have one TV, but a number of laptops around the house.

Thanks guys, I like DTV but my internet service has been poor and sporadic. In today's society, bad internet is a bad standard of living, lol. I have MiFi for work that works better than my internet at home so I think I'll give it a try. Thanks for the input.

I must be the exception w/ Comcast, I've been w/ them for almost 2 years and knock on wood never had any issues w/ cable or internet (I bought my own router instead of renting and no rebooting yet).

I know I'm waaaay behind the times but just added the first HDTV to the household so I had to upgrade the set top box and add HD to my monthly service. I only had Digital Preferred (1 tier above starter) and told them I needed to upgrade to HD service. I didn't ask for any upgrade in channels just HD service but she said they had a deal going and gave me every damn channel known to man except porn (including all of the HBO's, Big 10 Network, bunch of wildlife channels, Encore, Starz, NBA, Hockey, NFL Redzone, NFL Network, etc) for 12 months for the same old monthly price I had w/ only digital service. I haven't gotten the first bill yet so unless they lied and are going to charge me for all the extras I'm a happy camper for 12 months.

And just like that my Uverse goes out. Any suggestions to troubleshoot? Signal and internet have been lost. Which of course suggest that I visit att.com. Thank god I have Verizon LTE.
Just unplugged everything, modem, battery, receivers for 30 seconds, we are back in business.

u verse rocks. it started with my in-laws getting uverse. i was so impressed that i talked it up to my parents and they got it and loved it. it became available for me and now i have it. we absolutely love it. good value, saved some serious cash vs the old plan (saved about 320 bucks a year with our current plan) etc, etc. its good stuff.

I've never had any problems with Comcast either, other than my old router went bad and had to be rebooted periodically. When I got tired of rebooting it, I just took it back to them and got a new one and it works fine.

I just pulled the trigger on DirecTV. Couldn't deal with haggling with Comcast anymore. I'll keep my internet with them for now. Haven't told them yet. That's not a bad deal, but it sucks knowing that you're gonna have to do the same thing next year.

Plus I'm fired up about the Genie. And free Sunday ticket for next year. And a $100 visa card....

I understand that. When I lived in Ridgeland, MS, I constantly had to battle with Comcast about them raising my rates. I now live in North Carolina and have TWC, which is pretty good, but I also have the same battles that I had with Comcast. I do have the opportunity here to switch to AT&T U Verse and am strongly considering it. I note AT&T U Verse has signed on for the SEC channel starting in August, 2014, whereas TWC has not yet. That is a big consideration.

Uverse has been good for everybody

With two players in the market, satellite or Comcast, they can pretty much match pricing because other factors are a wash. Enter a third competitor and suddenly the customer has a little bit of a say.

Before I switched to Uverse, my Comcast bill was around $200/mo for regular internet and three DVR boxes with no premium channels. They were KILLING me on the equipment. One of the happiest days of my life was giving them back all their precious equipment.

ive been waiting for the sunday ticket deal to come back, looks like it has. I will be switching to them from dish because every year i get a letter from dish saying we have to increase your bill by 5 dollars.

I finally left TW. I get 85MBps now, whole house

DVR, and even Tivo Stream. I can download DVRd shows to my iPad for travel. I'm with Grande, a local company. Hobo and Showtime and Starz, sports, HD, etc. two HD DVR boxes. $120 a month.

that said, no WatchESPN yet, and no 3D movies on demand. And I find Tivo to be clunkier than Time Warner's DVR, though it does have more features. I liked TW (and comcast when I had them) cable guide and interface, and you could flip between DVR and live easier. Though I can now have three separate shows pause simultaneously, and flip between them, great for sports.

never been a fan of satellite, I think the channels take too long to change. I'm picky about my TV.

uverse isn't on my street, and I dont think they're running fiber here yet, and I won't get it over copper.

thats a good price. problem with comcast is they are sneaky with increasing your prices and can be very hard to deal with, but thats not just comcast. after a few unpleasant calls with uverse, i got internet fast enough to game on with no problems and most tv channels i would like. they do a great job on the sports packages. i dont have the movie channels (hbo, stars, etc.) but since im in school, i really dont have that much free time anyway. its been $99 for a while with some internet package deal for internet and tv. im the kinda person that i will miss out on a better deal just to not have to haggle and deal with idiot people. im sure i could get more channels at a better rate, but i lose my **** when i start getting charged for something i did not agree to or expect.

I was with Directv for about as long as there was a Directv. Last year I switched to Uverse and love it. Unlike Directv the channels change quickly and you still get reception when it is raining. What I really like about Uverse is Multivision. You can watch four channels at once and you pick the channels that appear on screen, that really comes in handy during football season.

I don't know about the on demand for Comcast, Uverse has most current shows I watch going back four or five episodes. The new shows come on a day or two after they premiere. There are some shows that they don't have, Longmire being one. As far as the pay channels they have almost every episode of any current show. It has a better selection than Mediacom, and is comparable to TWC. The only problem is last year they changed the interface to make it more like Netflix and the interface sucked. We had to change the option to list view or else it takes 10 minutes to get to the show you want.

Wireless box has worked great so far. I expected some lag or response delays because it runs over the wifi, but there is no difference in the remote functions. TV picture quality shows no difference whatsoever either. I imagine that could depend on setting it up right, but our router is in a back bedroom, and the box in the master is on the other side of the house and there's been no problem. I can't speak for a lot of the on demand options, because I just don't use it that much. Record most of what I want to see. However, they hooked us up with the package that has Showtime and all the seasons of their shows are on there right now. Picture is fantastic as well. Burning our way through Homeland right now. They've got a ton of pay movies, but we are Amazon Prime members and they are often a little cheaper.

Sometimes the **** just does that because the equipment wears out and they aren't exactly built to last. At my old house I began having intermittent service issues constantly. Couldn't ever get a line test done when it was out though, so it was a ***** trying to get them to do anything besides send me a new modem. I threw a twitter rant, threw another one, then threw another one.... I got a personal call from a manager and he sent three techs to my neighborhood. Turns out somebody ran over a box at the entrance to the subdivision and it was screwing with everybody's signal. Five people had cancelled in the subdivision and they only came out because I wouldn't stop harassing them. Fixed it up and it worked great, but that's ATT for ya. Twiddle their thumbs because of their service call policy while customers cancel left and right. I'm now labeled a chronic customer and have personal emails of two local managers.

Yeah I have always have very good service with DTV. We moved about a year ago and I had DTV with att dsl but our new neighborhood had uverse Internet available so I have DTV and Uverse for Internet only. It smokes that piece of crap DSL I had at the other.
