Well the Cal people here should have some hope that they still may make the cut lol.and so it begins
Honestly I'm good if Cal comes on board with Oregon/Washington/Stanford. I always said Cal fans are the Rutgers fans of the West Coast so we're more or less cousins.Well the Cal people here should have some hope that they still may make the cut lol.
Lol B1G is gonna make all 4 buy in for a decade at least."Big Ten doesn’t want to be predatory:
it al;ready has sharpened it's teeth ready to bite off some PAC programs once the 3 (ASU,UofA & Utah) four cornor programs turn into (B-12)Vitamins .
I believe the bite will take more than just the two being speculated as targets and the Cal and Stanford fans will be breathing a sigh of relief.
But all four fan-bases won't be happy with the revenue sharing entrance plan that will make their programs getting full revenue sharing seem like an eternity.
and that's how the B1G will keep , revenue sharing, cost to the presents program down for the next 7 years.Lol B1G is gonna make all 4 buy in for a decade at least.
Well it will be in two ways. Number 1 make the new schools take a steep discount. Number 2 open up new tv packages (Sat after dark/Fri Night) with a 4th tv partner (ESPN/Amazon/Apple). It would be funny if some of these PAC teams end up on Apple anyway. I tend to think Apple is out because they seem to like a subscription model. I don't think the B10 will like that model.and that's how the B1G will keep , revenue sharing, cost to the presents program down for the next 7 years.
Yeah exactly. I think Amazon/ESPN is the route the B1G goes. With 6 West Coast schools, the B1G truly can go on from noon EST to well past midnight EST on Saturdays in the fall with 4 time slots. (Fox noon, CBS 330, NBC Primetime, Amazon/ESPN B1G After Dark).Well it will be in two ways. Number 1 make the new schools take a steep discount. SEC and B10 will have the most money and clout but I don't things will change much with regards to playoff access. I still think other conferences will still have access. CFP money split will likely change.By the end of the decade (or maybe sooner), it will be the Big Ten and SEC. That's it.
Also it's possible not just ESPN after dark but maybe a few games thrown to ESPN+ too.Yeah exactly. I think Amazon/ESPN is the route the B1G goes. Oregon and Washington were always the two I thought would be added somewhere down the line. Phil Knight leaving enough money to Oregon was the only question I had about that. Supposedly, Oregon is well taken care of whenever he passes. From an RU perspective it would be better if it was 2 from the PAC-12 and UNC and UVA from the ACC. Unfortunately I don’t think the timing is right for that.
Watch the SEC and B1G form a partnership and bid out their next TV contract together. Both will continue to expand, so a buyer can have a one-stop shop for all the best teams in the country. I read something recently that college football conferences lose billions by chopping up the TV pie.SEC and B10 will have the most money and clout but I don't things will change much with regards to playoff access. It's no different than the NCAA tourney where the smaller conferences have teams that make it and have runs.
Only thing different I'd say is I don't expect any of the teams outside the B10/SEC to win a football championship like we've seen in basketball. Making the playoffs and having runs are possible though imo.
I've mentioned that in the past that somewhere down the line I wonder if the SEC and B10 would line up their tv deals and package them together. They'd both then have access to all the networks and streamers rather than being locked in anywhere. More leverage too.Watch the SEC and B1G form a partnership and bid out their next TV contract together. I could see that type of alliance down the road. Only potential issue is if anti-trust lawsuits come into play with that potential duopoly.Watch the SEC and B1G form a partnership and bid out their next TV contract together. Yea it would have to be a steep discount and they would be happy to accept just like we did because they have no choice like we didn’t lol.
Monopoly? Like the NFL? Seems reasonable.I've mentioned that in the past that somewhere down the line I wonder if the SEC and B10 would line up their tv deals and package them together. I've seen an interview with Delany that kind of puts a kibosh on that notion because of possible monopoly etc..
My thoughts about Cal and Stanford joining is: with Oregon and Washing in the fold making 4 West Coast programs adding those two would cut the expense of the 4 WC programs having to go to Midwest and eastern B1G stadiums for away games and having Midwest and eastern programs head west .Oregon and Washington were always the two I thought would be added somewhere down the line. Cal/Stanford were more questions marks for me, especially Cal. Stanford has that ND connection so that was always helpful but the B10 will have plenty of ND rivals in conference anyway. We'll see if they make the cut.
The pro leagues have antitrust exemptions don't they?Monopoly? Like the NFL? Seems reasonable.
I'm not saying they couldn't make the cut but they're less definitive imo. If they do make it (even if they don't lol), shows that markets do matter despite what everyone says these days. Markets matter, brand status matters, it all matters and each school has a mosaic of these things to contribute to their individual picture and that's what's evaluated to see if it can be additive or not.My thoughts about Cal and Stanford joining is: with Oregon and Washing in the fold making 4 West Coast programs adding those two would cut the expense of the 4 WC programs having to go to Midwest and eastern B1G stadiums for away games and having Midwest and eastern programs head west .
I think the B1G will make deals with regional TV stations to cover some of the West Coast games that won't be showing to a national audience , if their current TV rights deal allows that.
People here have constantly criticized the deal RU got when we joined. Imagine if you were sitting in Cal's position. Given the options, I'm sure that they do not expect a full share immediately. You have to look long term. Joining the B1G was a no brainer for RU and any negotiator who screwed it up by pushing for more early year revenues would have been in Gruninger territory if not worse.
Didn't the NFL give it up or get striped of it?The pro leagues have antitrust exemptions don't they?
Predatory is probably not the right word choice. Maybe not delivering the knock out punch or fatal blow might be a better way to put it.Lol BIG doesn’t want to be predatory ??
Taking usc and ucla was just a sign of good faith !!

Exactly. B1G will create the illusion of allowing Oregon/Washington and maybe Cal/Stanford to live on in the Power 2. They know how to control the message.Predatory is probably not the right word choice. Maybe not delivering the knock out punch or fatal blow might be a better way to put it.
If schools leave to the B12 first then the B10 can look like a sort of "savior" for Oregon/Washington and possibly Stanford/Cal.
WSU/Oregon State don't have really have any hope.
The B1G to the B2G if they add all 4 of UO/UW/Cal/Stanford.Honestly they should just get ahead of this and change the conference name from the Big 10 Conference to the Big *** Conference
They were not added midcontract like Nebraska, RU and MD, so they didn’t dilute the Tier 1 and 2 deals like those schools did when they joined.I’d anything, I think the B1G overpaid for USC and UCLA. There should have been a buy in period for them.
