Honestly who cares who makes the first move? Has that really been relevant or had any implacations to date? I don't see it. If I am a Pac 12 school with a chance to move now and secure my future, I look out for myself over the interests of a dying conference. If Arizona or Utah allow the AAU President, who is more out of touch with reality than the old Big East leadership, to impact their movement, their leadership should be fired for negligence.
Wouldn't be surprised to see Arizona/ASU/Utah get squeezed by the B12 now for sitting on their rear ends instead of acting. What do you mean pro rata haha. Sometimes inaction is a good move but sometimes if you don't act you get acted upon lol.

These PAC schools won't ever learn that sometimes you're the windshield and sometimes you're the bug. They had some leverage and waffled on using it and now they have none with Oregon/Washington gone. They have to depend on the generosity and good graces of the B12 now lol.

Act when you can, or deal with the consequences

I mentioned this above and think the MWC should merge and take the PAC name and hopefully all the benefits grandfathered in with that like NCAA credits, larger CFP share for the last 2 years of the current CFP deal and possible Rose Bowl berth for whatever the length of that contract remains.

From the article:
With additional schools leaving the Pac-12, the Mountain West would “be open” to adding remaining Pac-12 schools to the league, sources told Action Network.

The Mountain West currently has a linear television deal with FOX and CBS Sports Network with additional games on CBS through the 2025 season. Another possibility for the Mountain West, depending on how many schools are remaining in the Pac-12, could be a merger of some type between the two leagues, a source said.

This is what I’m getting at and I hope they can pull it off. It helps the MWC elevate themselves a bit and the new G4 would get more CFP money too the last two years of the deal.

When does Providence make a phone call to Cal, Stanford, OSU, and WSU, tell them that they're going Basketball only, invite a couple of additional parochial schools, and that they'll retain the conference name?

What I'm amazed by is that the B12's media deal would allow them to add Utah and ASU for an additional $30M+ apiece when the schools are located in solid, but not blockbuster, markets that the conference should have already locked-up when it acquired BYU and Arizona (assuming UA is already a done deal). Over $60M a year for two middling travel partners of little interest outside their respective states seems like a bad investment.

Both Fox and ESPN used to have half of the B12 and PAC12. Now they have cherry picked the PAC12 schools they want for the B12 and they save a bunch of money on the schools they no longer have to pay.

I don't get that.. 2024 should be locked in already... or is it still 2023 in terms of that?

I don't get teh point of changing it for 2024.. I mean.. just keep it as is even if the PAC is a shell of its former self. Now.. 2025 and beyond.. make the change now and let everyone know what's what. That is a conference doesn't have 10-12 teams then it doesn't get a champions spot and that spot will become an at-large that any highly-ranked team can take. But don't penalize any remaining PAC teams for other teams leaving for greener pastures... not for 2024. Give em time to adjust. Maybe a PAC-remnants plus MWC teams etc may be just as competitive as the current PAC.

I think it is locked in.

I think what’s up in the air is if the PAC will exist. But 6 bids is still 6 bids and that took forever to finally finagle everyone to commit to that original plan, so I’d be surprised if it changed. I don’t even see how they can change it without unanimous approval like it took to expand.

Only after the current CFP deal expires, I think there could be a change. I still wouldn’t write off 6 at that time but at least 5 imo. There could be significant changes on the CFP money split though but format I think would stay largely in tact but that’s just my guess.

I’d anything, I think the B1G overpaid for USC and UCLA. There should have been a buy in period for them.
They wanted the L.A. TV market really bad.....just like - with Rutgers - the NYC TV market. TV runs CF today and it all comes down to $$$$$. Plus, I have to believe that B1G recruiting powerhouses like OSU, Michigan, and PSU - especially OSU who has a massive alumni base in LA - are thrilled now that the conference has a foothold in LA.

There is no uncertainty about the value of these franchises, they were part of the negotiation over the media contracts, and were highly valued by our media partners.

interesting dilemma.. did not consider the PAC not existing and there is a CFP "bonus" for whoever remains.. at least temporarily. So I think it will "exist".. in a way.. just for that final cashing in... would be silly to walk away unless you move UP.. and there ain't that many musical chairs... as odd as it is to think that Cal and Stanford might not make the cut.. CRAZY! Stanford may well be the best overall school for athletics, as a whole, in the nation! But as the SF market shrinks.. as California itself shrinks... hard to make a case for them...
