Didn't want to overload the other thread with talk about schedules of other B10 schools.

Click the grids to enlarge. Away games are white. Home games are gray.

Looks like the Rose Bowl Cannonball Run will have to wait until 2027.

West coast schools only getting 1 protect rival. I didn't think they would get 3 but thought they might get 2. As you'd expect UCLA/USC and Oregon/Washington are protected games.

UCLA and Washington will have 2 trips out east next year to PSU and RU. Oregon doesn't have to go beyond the midwest next and USC has 1 trip to Maryland.

It is nice to see a schedule that doesn't include ALL of our (soon-to-be former) B1G East conference mates in the same season. The last 9 years have been pretty rough playing MSU, PSU, OSU, and Michigan every year. Although, replacing some of those with USC, Oregon, and Washington isn't exactly fun either. But, you get my point.

Outside of OSU (assuming their offense continues to be very producttive), I actually worry about the west coast teams more. Those highly productive offenses imo are a bigger Achilles heel for us than what we usually see in the B10.

Some are graduating QBs though and it’s an unknown how the increased travel eastward (imo harder than westward) will affect those teams in the future.

Most favorable matchups

VanHaaren: Rutgers has USC, UCLA and Washington, which will be a difficult stretch. But the Scarlet Knights don't have Michigan, Penn State or Ohio State on their schedule. That seems like a good trade-off, especially because the USC game is the only West Coast away game Rutgers will have in 2024. The matchups against Illinois, Minnesota, UCLA, Washington and Wisconsin will all be at home.

From the Auerbach article above on how they came about scheduling.

Competitive balance

There is a hierarchy of the 18-team Big Ten football conference consisting of historic powers like Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State and USC, annual competitive programs like Washington, Oregon, Wisconsin and Iowa plus others such as UCLA, Michigan State and Northwestern which routinely have competed for league titles.

In order to provide balanced scheduling, a scheduling matrix was developed. It first included two tiers of nine teams, then three tiers of six teams and finally six tiers of three teams.

“Our goal was to try and create those opportunities where we eliminated the outliers,” Kenny said. “So the hardest schedule and the easiest schedule on paper should all be around a consistent equator line as you look across all 18.”

The 262nd schedule was the only one in which all 18 teams had four or five games against each of the nine-team tiers established.

N western has routinely competed for league titles? What league?

Routinely is a bit much. Occasionally they've made the champ game and have been ranked a handful of times in the last 8-9 years. You could say the same for UCLA which probably done less than NW.

I think NW is gonna slip though unless they can somehow snag a coach like Elko. For most schools, I think portal is you get some you lose some but for schools like NW, Stanford it's more you lose some and it's harder to replace them because of entrance requirements.

Elko is going to be the next big coach…whomever gets him is going places.

I've mentioned him here at times when we've been looking. Never know for sure but I think he's a very good coach. He came up the hard way level by level and those kind of coaches more often than not have good track records.
