My vet moved to Memphis a couple of years ago and we have been searching high and low for a new one. Every time we go to a new guy, he is a jackass and wants to run a bill up over $400. Every damn time. We have a 8 year old female yellow lab.

Any suggestions?

When I lived in Ridgeland I used to take my dog to Gluckstadt Animal Hospital. Dr. Sturdivant (not sure if he's still there or not) was always very helpful and charged reasonably for services rendered - even when my dog ate a tube of super glue. Even used them on more than one occassion for boarding. Overall I was very pleased with them.

I've taken our bulldog there since he opened that clinic...I lived in Texas for a year and even brought her all the way back to Gluckstadt for her yearly checkup... He won't charge you you for things you don't need and his place is as clean as a vet's office can be. Dr. Sturdivant will even let you tour his OR and kennel if you want. I've been nothing but pleased with him.

Don't worry about fees; the most important part of your complaint is that the doctor was a jerk. Services could be free and it wouldn't matter, as long as you don't like the vet. Find one that is friendly and doesn't talk down to you and you won't mind paying his/her fees.
If cost is all that matters, pick up the phone and ask how much a dog spay is. Go to the one that gives you the best price. See the flawed logic?

Very personable and saved my dog's life. He is sometimes overly cautious, but that could be a good thing.

Its off of 471 near I-20. Dr. Kirby there is pretty good. He sees my bulldog a good bit for all his bulldog related issues. He rarely charges me the "office visit" fee. Big State fan too.

Sometimes he doesn't charge anything for me.

and you have named several good clinics. I'll add another, Rankin Animal Clinic in Pearl. Dr. Scott Leber and Dr. Kirstin Berry are very good with both dogs and cats.

As far as bills, I'll simply throw this out at you: to get a veterinary degree is well above $100,000 and to buy your own clinic and equip it is over $250,000. We don't get insurance payments and our charges are very reasonable. I'll leave you with this, to get a C-Section from a M.D in the metro area is over $12000: a vet does it for around $400 and uses much of the same equipment so quit complaining.

Hospital or whatever it's called on Hwy 51 south of downtown in Canton on the suggestion of a friend. Cheapest Vet in the area and a good guy to boot. He's on average about 20% cheaper than everyone else.

OT: Anyone heard from their vets heartworm pills/ shots are worthless in MS, particularly areas around Delta? Still treat our dog with chewable pills but have wondered effectiveness for a while.

OT bonus: their is a clinic on Treetops in Flowood. Took dog in thereafter workfor vomitting. Finest female vet EVER seen (and yes, was not a tech/lab help/admin)...think she was temp and not there anymore butman she was smoke!!

His clinic is not the taj mahal but he does not bill you anywhere close to All Creatures in Madison and really cares about his animals. As most of those mentioned probably are, he's a good State guy.

show in the Delta and a few other places in the US but it is very few. Some researchers believe that it is due to a heavy infestation--carried by mosquitos-- and some HW resistance to the mdeications. Continue to use the medications religously.

It's next to a chevron I believe. Not sure if the guy is still there but it looked like he had just rolled out of bed every time we were there. Also he started cutting open an abscess with some scissors without deadening the area (cat was going insane) I said "hey man, stop! Can you deaden the area or put it under and do that??" and he said "oh..ok." Upon euthanizing the same cat later, he called up and said "uh..what do want us to do with this cat?" Sweet bedside manner.

I'd avoid Ridgetowne Animal Clinic like the plague. I wouldn't take a damn goldfish there. I have nothing but excellent things to say for Crooked Creek.

I was boarding my bulldog at Crooked Creek and when they moved to their new location (less than 3 miles from the new place), Dr. Rhodes put Jack in the cab of her truck to make sure he wouldn't get too hot. All the other dogs rode in a trailer! As long as I live within driving distance to Crooked Creek, they're my vet.

Also I have heard nothing but good things about Gluckstadt Animal Hospital (Clinic?) that's been mentioned several times.

....they've been great. Have had normal visits and checkups with Dr. Filgo, but have also made a handful of emergency trips up there for our boy cat when he'd get hurt in some scrap or another, and they treated him excellently.

Could not be more pleased with them.

on Hwy. 51 in Madison, just north of the intersection of 51 and Hoy Road - past the Walgreen's on the right. Been taking a dog and two cats there for years. Nice facility, really nice people, good vets, Sat & Sun drop off/pick up for boarding.

While I respect what you do and think a ton of my animals and my vet, let's not got putting doing a c-section to a dog in the same ballpark as doing a c-section on a human. I would explain the many differences but hope that you are intelligent enough to figure it out on your own.

Dr Andrea Jones at the Dogwood Animal Hospital and Pet Resort. She has taken care of our dalmation for the last 7 yrs, saved his life twice in that time frame, once from a swallowed sippy cup stopper and then really saved his life when his kidneys started to fail at about age 5. We were a day from putting him down when she wanted to try one last thing. It worked and he's healthy as a horse now. We board him there as well.

North State Animal Hospital is also great w/ Dr Fromm and Whittington. We'd still be there but N State Street is just too far to go. I've heard good things about Oakdale as well.

I seriously doubt that catvet is comparing a dog to a human. His point is that the procedure is just as difficult on one as it is on the other. Couple that with the fact that the vet is the surgeon, anesthetist, recovery nurse, pharmacist, oncologist, internist, radiologist, etc..... and you'll likely see where he's coming from. I would also wager that he is indeed intelligent enough to figure the differences out on his own. I hope you will be willing to concede the similarities.

At least one of my dogs wouldn't have made it if not for him. Maybe two.

He is a brilliant doctor yet down to earth. He genuinely cares about you and your animal One thing I admire about Adrian is he will readily refer to a specialist if it's out of his strike zone.

Staff is superb also.

He is an Auburn grad but I think the other vets on staff are MSU.

At last count, we have paid for most his last two trucks.
