You get a lot more content and it is more user friendly on xbox. I'm not justifying paying for xbl, personally it's bs and it should be free. However xbl does have an edge on ps network.

I have both systems, got the PS3 the year it launched and got the 360 roughly around 3 - 4 years after my PS3. They're both good systems, but honestly I spend more time playing my PS3 than I do my 360 as it's somewhat collecting dust right now. As far as the game selections go, they're relatively even and you can still find similar experiences with the exclusive titles on both consoles. Since you don't seem to really care about the specs of both systems, I'll just give it to you straight. It really depends on what your wants are for your games and overall entertainment. From the sounds of it, since you're really more concerned about shooters, sports and free to play online, with all good conscience.. I'd have to suggest the PS3.<div>
</div><div>Many people say that the 360 controller is better for shooters and to a certain extent I can kind of understand where they're coming from, but since I've gamed with practically every Sony console up to this point and have pretty big hands, the PS3 controller has just felt like it belongs in my hand more. 360's is rather ergonomic but I can't go long rounds of gaming with it, but of course that type of preference is unique from person to person. As far as sports games are concerned, to be honest... I really do not play that many sports games, but if I were to consistently purchase a sports title it would more than likely be MLB: The Show as a previous poster already stated can only be purchased on PS3.</div><div>
</div><div>As far as game recommendations... some of the shooters that I've enjoyed best are:
The Uncharted Series - There are 2 out currently with a 3rd on the way by the end of the year. You don't exactly have to play these games sequentially and if you choose not to... go with Uncharted 2 all the way. 1 is fun, but 2 is quite possibly one of the best games to be released this generation. Also to note, the first doesn't have a multiplayer component as the 2nd and 3rd do.</div><div>
</div><div>Killzone Series - I haven't played 3 yet, but I've heard good things as I plan to work my way to it eventually. 2 is fun, but it got a little annoying in certain instances. The controls in 2 also take a little getting used to but from what I hear (and what I at least felt in the demo), the controls in 3 feel much better.</div><div>
</div><div>Ratchet & Clank Future Series - Since you have kids they (and you as well) may enjoy this as it's 3rd person platforming action adventure shooter with rpg elements. It seems rather cartoonish but it's still pretty fun.</div><div>
</div><div>inFamous Series - Technically it's a shooter.... Best way to look at it is a super hero style sandbox game that plays like a 3rd person shooter. Quite honestly, this is one of my favorite series this generation and I try to recommend it every chance I get.</div><div>-----------</div><div>these are Sony exclusives with quite a few other exclusive shooters that you *may* want to look into but it's kind of hard to recommend them such as:</div><div>Resistance Series (loved the first, but it's rather outdated now. really did not like the second but I will at least check out the third. Halo style shooter.)</div><div>Socom 4 (I have a real hard time recommending this as it killed the Socom series I once loved, but you never know who may or may not like it)</div><div>Warhawk (real cheap, but has a heavy focus on flight combat with some elements of ground combat. I doubt this is what you'll be interested in however)</div><div>-----------</div><div>
</div><div>Multiplatform shoorters:
CoD Series: As much as I've grown to despise this series, it's successful for a reason. It's really easy to pick up as it's arcady style helps people not used to playing more competitive shooters feel as if they're able to compete against the world.</div><div>
</div><div>Battlefield Series: On the other end of the spectrum of CoD and one I find rather enjoyable. Takes teamwork in order to be competitive. If you're wanting to go Rambo on a regular basis, this is not the shooter for you.</div><div>
</div><div>Red Dead Redemption: One of my favorite games to be released this year. A sandbox 3rd person shooter (TPS) that does a good job capturing the wild west with a decent narrative. A nice online component as well that can be competitive to an extent but probably not one that will take up too much time.</div><div>
</div><div>Also, I haven't played Dead Space or Borderlands but I've always heard good things about both franchises so I feel it would be nice to throw their names out there as well.

Lastly (forgive me for the length by the way), as far as the online debate is concerned... I really don't see that much difference between both communities and quite frankly don't think the $50 is worth it for XBL. I've been a rather competitive online player for years (even before PS2 and Xbox) and as far as the level of competition is to be found on both consoles...they're relatively even. You'll find trolls, biggots, kids that want to be cool, noobs and pretty damn good players on both systems. The price of admission does nothing to weed out individuals that may take away from the fun that could be had. The only real difference that you may find between the two is the mic usage which weighs heavily in the 360s favor. This could be a double edged sword when you think about it, but other than that both online experiences are fairly even when looked atcomparatively. Microsoft has been doing this longer and has a bit more structure and organization in some instances, but it's not really too much that warrants $50 to me honestly.</div><div>
</div><div>Again... sorry for the length, but hopefully this helps you out with your decisions. If you have anything you'd like to ask me about the subject, don't hesitate to do so as this is a subject I feel I'm rather versed in.</div>

are not using your mic you're not really playing "online". Would you play with the volume turned off? No. Playing online without using your mic is the same as playing without volume on your tv. Online is meant to be interaction while playing a game with one or more people. How can you interact without talking? You just agreed that the use of the mic on the 360 is by far more than the ps3, that would mean the quality of online play is vastly superior on the 360. If you are playing online without a mic please use the ps3. There is nothing more frustrating than playing team games with a teammate that doesn't talk. XBoxLive IS online gaming.

The fact that you're playing against people online is fact enough that you're interacting with them in the first place. The mic is an enhancement and with some games isn't as necessary. Even though I have a mic for both systems, I don't use it for both unless I'm either play with friends or I happen to be on teams where there are a few people that are trying to use strategy. For the most part, it's usually guys that are playing to have fun (whether that's just only talking to their friends, trolling everybody in the room or playing their music through the mic) and aren't really focused about the team effort.<div>
</div><div>The only reason why 360 has more mic usage is simply because they include the mic in the packaging which is smart. PS3, on the other hand, was trying to cut back costs initially by not including one but also allowed people the option to use (almost) any bluetooth device they could get their hands on (an option you don't have on the 360 mind you). To take things to another level, even though mic usage on the 360 is higher, interaction between players have gotten lower due to the inclusion of cross game chat. Because this option allows friends to talk to one another regardless of what game they're playing, if some of the individuals in the party are playing online with other people, they're teammates can't hear them because they're in a x-game chat with their friends. So, I'm not going to tell you how you should choose to spend your money, but if you feel justified for paying $50 for higher mic usage, x-game chat and a little more organization then enjoy every little penny.</div>

So, now i'm looking for somefun games. I plan on picking up the new FIFAin the fall/winter. I remember playing Read Dead Revolver on the PS2 and it was fun. I'll probably look into Read Dead Redemption andBattlefield Bad Company 2 and probably a CoD - sometimes a mindless shooter is nice to have. Any suggestions on the best overall CoD? is Modern Warfare 2 the lastest greatest? Also, what aboutthe Vietnam version/expansion pack for Battlefield?

Edited to add:Can i find any torrents of these older games and justuse a usb/flash drive to load them onto the PS3 hard drive to play?do i need extra codes to play online if thatis a possiblity?learn me.

Vietnam is pretty decent. The weapons are pretty accurate for the time period. Best thing on there is running around with a flamethrower.

When you're considering buying a CoD series, here's a rule of thumb. Activision (The owner and publisher) is using acyclicaldevelopment cycle between multiple developrs. At first it was just 2, Infinity Ward (CoD, CoD2, CoD4:MW, MW2) and Treyarch (CoD3, CoD:WaW, CoD:BO), but there's a 3rd developer, Sledgehammer, that's slated to work on CoD titles as well but other than that, not much is known about their contributions. You tend to find more fans migrating towards the Infinity Ward titles so I will go on record as to say that usually people will tell you that MW titles tend to be better than other Treyarch offshoots (unless you absolutely love Nazi Zombies). As far as which is the newest, CoD:BO was the last one to be released, but there's a MW3 that will be released at years end.<div>
</div><div>I can't really add too much about the Vietnam pack for BFBC2 unfortunately as I was getting really deep in my studies at the time and had to forgo it altogether.</div><div>
</div><div>As far as pirating PS3 games... I'd be very careful about that. The PS3 was recently hacked so you should be able to find a couple of waves of cracked games as before they were nonexistent. However, if there's any records of you playing a cracked game on your system, there's a good chance that you will get caught unless you decide to just discontinue any online interactions from that point on. Both Sony and Microsoft will lock your account and basically handout permabans to people they find pirating their intellectual property. Not only that, but even if you were able to find said games for PS3, you would need a Blu-ray burner as just using a jump drive wouldn't get the job done. Fortunately, older games can usually be found for relatively cheap so it's really not that big of a loss if you decide to go the used games route.</div>

you've justified it to yourself to not use your mic. After reading your posts I can already tell why you would be afraid to use your mic. I'm sorry you're very smart and probably get ridiculed to no end online for your nerdness. Was that trolling? I'm glad you play ps3 now if I can just convince you to throw your xbox away.

Your trolling isn't too bad. Not the best I've seen but definitely not the worst. Instead of trying to make it seem like I don't know what I'm talking about you come back by calling me a nerd which is actually quite funny especially considering that you have admitted to having 1000+ hours dedicated into the mighty Gears of War. I guess when it comes down to it, I'm cool with being classified as a nerd, but come on... that's hardly an insult when coming from someone who has admitted that they have no life. Try harder.

A real nerd doesn't need a mic because he would have been used to playing multiplayer games with voice chat from the days of dial up games. Voice chat is a luxury we couldn't afford. Quake and Warcraft 2 needed no talking for great gaming. <div>
</div><div id="aeaoofnhgocdbnbeljkmbjdmhbcokfdb-mousedown">Reply fail, I meant to direct this comment towards DAWG61. There's a large group of gamers who are under the impression that Xbox Live is the only type of multiplayer gaming that is any good, and I suppose they have been a bit spoiled by it. On the other hand, if you've never had it before, you'd probably find a lot of what they offer to be extraneous to multiplayer gaming.</div>

Gears of War is almost 5 years old. That's a half-hour a day of video games. Something tells me you spend way more than that in the last 5 years. I fine with admitting I'm a video game nerd, are you fine with admitting you don't use your mic because you can't stand the trash-talking? There is a mute button for that.

As far as my gaming habits in the last 5 years... they've shrunk significantly due to college. If I could, I'd be glad to sink countless hours into gaming but I just don't have that luxury at the moment and plus I have other interests and obligations that I like dedicating my time towards as well. I've been gaming for longer than I could remember and like UTM3P alluded to, I was gaming online well before a mic was even necessary. I don't *need* to talk to people I don't know to enjoy a game. Besides, I've already stated earlier that when I play shooters, I only use my mic when I notice that there are other people that are trying to be competitive and coordinate strategies. Whenever everyone is doing there own thing then I just choose not to talk because most of the times I'm just not interested. I'm mainly only like that with shooters as there's really no point in trash talking your own teammates.<div>
</div><div>Other genres/games that don't require as much coordination like racers and fighters then more than likely I'm using my mic. Only time I don't use it then is if it needs to be charged or there may be latency issues. To me...mic's just aren't that important when just having fun online when I'm in groups of people I don't know. When I'm with friends or trying to recruit people into clans then things are different.</div>

PC has the largest variety of titles, the best gameplay (first person shooters are garbage on consoles) and the best patching ability. Plus you can get more free games easier.

As much as I like the game, I'd suggest searching for a good price on BC2 before buying it at this point. It's still active, but most of the players will be gone once BF3 is released, and that's not far away. I haven't been into Vietnam much the past few months, but when I have it was kind of dead. Maybe it's just the PS3 community, but people didn't respond that much to it. After a couple of weeks, everyone went back to the regular BC2.

I normally don't get into the console war ********, but I must admit... you're doing a good job of fitting the stereotypical archetype of a 360 user. I'm really hoping you're just trolling, because if you're not you have no right to call anyone else a douche. If I wanted to, I could post a "book" about 360 games too (not to the depth of my knowledge on PS3 games admittedly) simply because I just like to keep up with the industry. While you're desperately working on your next come back, go ahead and look up the time of release for every single one of the games I listed while you're at it. You'll find that they're all relatively spaced out so it wouldn't be too hard for me to find time to play them over the years. When I say I haven't been playing nearly as much as I used to, that's almost an understatement and doesn't even do justice how much time I've pulled back.
