I've never been to one so maybe I just don't get it, but I don't understand the excitement for people to come from out of town and spend the night and camp out to go to a large convenience store to wait in line forever to pay for my coke and Twinkie.
Those people don't have enough to do. Bucee's are great if you need a clean bathroom and a variety of food options quick, but they're still just a gas station with souped up food and retail options.

I pass the one on the AL coast all the time and have stopped just one time. I don’t get it. Why fight the traffic? It must be for the kiddies on vacation.
I guess we're not going through there at peak times, but it's usually not too bad getting in and out. If it looks like we actually have to wait in line before getting into the parking lot, we're skipping it, but if you don't have to wait to get into the parking lot, it seems to always be fast once you get in. Or at least, it's as fast as you want to make it. Never had to wait on bathrooms and even fast when you order food instead of grabbing what's ready. People that spend a lot of time seem to be because they are browsing, not because there is a long wait for anything.

But again, it's just a nice gas station. I'm not stopping if I don't need gas, food, and/or a bathroom break.

I was the guy in the beaver costume.

  • Clean bathrooms (like 50+)
  • Good food/snacks (all the drink/ice/coffee machines work 24x7)
  • Plenty of gas pumps (and electric chargers as well)
  • No 18 wheelers
  • Plenty of check out cashiers
  • Kids love it
  • Lots of space to walk around, not cramped or congested
  • Employees are paid decent wages and are generally happy
  • Customers that drop in are generally happy
The kids and I stop at the one in Birmingham (Leeds) a few times a year on the way to the beach and summer camp. For a place that massive, it's surprisingly easy/fast to get in and out.

To me, you have to visit one a few times to appreciate it. The first time is overwhelming; the second time you know your way around and start discovering stuff, the third time you know what your favorites are. Just when I realized that all the hot sandwiches - brisket/pulled pork/3-meat/fried chicken - are great, I stumbled on the counter in the back with all the burritos, baked goods and jerky.

I like it for all the reasons listed above, plus - from a sheer operations standpoint - it's impressive that there's a massive, spotless convenience store, with pristine bathrooms, friendly staff and everything arranged perfectly on the shelves, that also serves good brisket.

I'm putting the over/under at 4. 100% the guy on the rollator and guy with the selfie stick post here. @Barkman Turner Overdrive was probably in the crowd too.

Negative. It will probably be a few months before I fight those crowds. Besides, they got rid of the kiosks where you could special order your Frito Pie Burrito. We used to be a proper country.

The sandwiches are meh.
The snacks are good.
Jerky is fair.
Wife likes their espresso fudge, it’s good.

Bathrooms are second to none, unless you crash a hotel lobby bathroom.

The best to-go handheld lunch I’ve found is either the Mexican beef burrito, or the southwest grilled chicken burrito. They’re surprisingly good for a quick stop and want to get back on the road.

The love for their famed brisket sandwich is baffling to me.

The only other one I tried was just East of Dallas, don't remember the suburb name. I hit it about 5:30 a.m. and was almost alone, hardly anybody else there. Another good experience, I leisurely walked around the whole place and stocked up on way too much stuff though.
Probably the one in Terrell, TX.

Breakfast burritos are about as good as you can find for a fast food breakfast. BBQ is also about the best you will find for somewhere that you can walk in and grab and go.

People go overboard saying that it's is the best bbq that you can find. It is exceptional for a gas station or fast food joint. If you want great BBQ then you need to go somewhere out on a dirt road with some random shack and a cooker out back.

My dad used to bring bbq from somewhere out around Dectar / Athens area. Just a block building with an old man cooking out back. I am not even sure if the "restaurant" had a name.

It's an 8/10 Brisket sandwich. 6.5/10 in the state of Texsa. But you also gotta think about the quality control on it. The one in Daytona Beach is just as good as the ones in Texsa. How many other chains can quality control brisket that well?

Also. Its competition should be "grab and go". In that category, it's damn near unmatched. Joe's in Kansas City is the only Gas Station Brisket I can say is easily better.

Then you add all the snacks. You got your nuts if you're into that sorta thing. You got your Beaver Nuggets (The cinnamon ones are a top 5 snack. Most people like one of the 5 flavors a tremendous amount.) You got your jerky variety. The Jalapeño Honey is ELITE jerkey imo. Cherry Maple is a personal fav. I'm sure if you take the time to try all the variations of those 3 snack options - you'll find a trio that you love.

Add to it - the cleanliness, the "organized chaos", the S-tier bathrooms, the cheap gas (which yes is a get me in the door tactic that works), and they pay outstanding wages.

It's what we all want American businesses to be. Thriving variety, opportunity, positivity, and politeness.

Compare that to how soulless McDonald's has gotten. It's easy to want to support Buc-ee's while it supports my early cardiac arrest.

Damn, all these people humble bragging about being able to afford the Bucee's beef jerkey. No wonder we're not competitive in NIL with all you people spending your money on $20 per pound beef jerky.
