I don't know the BOA's or Parker's reasoning behind the resolution. Maybe they just did it for the heck of it. But I'm hoping there is some high-tech firm considering Starkville and this is a recruiting ploy. That the BOA is letting them know that everybody is welcome in Starkville. It would be hilarious to hear the Supertalk reaction to something like that happening.

I doubt anybody will have a problem with it as it relates to gay people but there may be some people that have an issue with the parts related to gender identify. I don't think many people will have a problem with it at all because it's just a resolution and shouldn't have any legal force. But depending on how carefully the resolution is worded (can't tell one way or the other from the excerpted part) it could be read as inconsistent with the resolution for the city to to require that men use the men's restroom if they identify as female and for women to use the women's restroom if they identify as male, and I don't think it would be completely unreasonable for people that work for the city or that use municipal facilities to object to that.

THIS^^ and I am a Republican. Who gives a crap if the board passed a non binding resolution that is already in practice due to common courtesy. Starkville has had a large gay population for several years, and I've never once seen someone be hateful towards one of them. Bigotry is not going to turn someone straight.

Is the guy a rube? Yeah, most likely. But what you have to remember is the guy makes a living from advertising. His core demographic is made of the kind of people that love getting riled up for a "cause". The more he can whip people into a frenzy, the better his business. His loyal listeners will go out and buy a dozen packs of Country Pleasin' this weekend, because they deem them to be on the right of side of the issue and that's more than likely what's driving his "opinion".

I really hope JT is not as simpleminded as he sounds. Surely he is catering to

certain listeners, if not, he really is an idiot. Years back, when Dave was on the show, he kept JT somewhat grounded. Now all JT talks about is Liberal this, Liberal that, their taking our guns, perceived attacks on Christians and Christmas, and other wedge issues. He really is just a Sean/Glen/Rush/Sarachelle Bocklin wannabe. I used to listen to him while traveling for work, but now his show consists of black helicopters circling like vultures all attacking Mom, God and apple pie. I find his constant attacks on public education especially annoying given his constant expression of his love for private academies and MRA in particular.

I will try to listen occasionally, but after about 3 minutes he will say something stupid like he did today and I usually will utter 17 you at the radio and go back to Deep Tracks. Thank God for XM Radio

What you don't understand is when it comes to politics and social issues people are not as honest as you think when talking to them. They will go with the crowd so they will not be ridiculed. I am not one of those. I will tell you to your face I don't care one way or another. In few months this could all be forgotten but if all the religious leaders in the tri area ask their congregation to boycott Starkville, Starkville will get hurt and the business owners will raise all kind of hell. College students come and go and they are usually a little more liberal then the folks who live in the area full time and these are the folks who are going to be shopping during the summer and other months school is out. You don't want to make this folks angry.

Also it is obvious you are no a business owner. You can't do without anyone if you are. Side note I will eat and shop in starkville when I am there because I don't care.

Starkville is probably, up there with Ocean Springs, one of the most progressive forward thinking towns in Mississippi. I’m happy to call it my home.

He gets a resolution passed that was brought up out of the blue for no reason, he makes some comments afterwards, he makes State and National News and then the very next night, he's the surprise speaker for the Democrats rebuttal to the Governors State of the State speech. Coincidence, I think not. The Democrats are setting the stage for Parker to run for a higher office.

Why play the games of passing a resolution that will stirr up some people like this for apparently no other reason than to play a political game prior to the response to the governor's speech. I'm just sick of the games, posturing, fake sympathy, finger pointing, and ******** that has accelerated to warp speed in the past 10 years while this country is taking step after step backward in comparison to others. This was just another game played and time as well as resources wasted while doing it. Run the damn city. Cut a few ribbons, kiss a couple babies, and don't waste time on the city's dime.

Uh...Rand Paul is against gay marriage for religious reasons, even comparing homosexuals to bestiality. Michelle Bachmann, Ted Cruz, etc. have made similar statements. Bible thumpers.

There's nothing unbiblical about drug legalization, and it's not like there's wide support among Tea Partiers outside of some of them supporting decriminalization of small amounts of marijuana. Even rand Paul says don't legalize pot, just don't prosecute small time users...
