He was the last of the “Boys of Summer”Another alumnus of The Boys of Summer has gone away.
So far,it's a bad day for baseball nonagenarians.
As were Drysdale and Koufax. The Dodgers tended to keep their starters for a long time. Koufax, who first pitched for the Dodgers in 1955 at age 19, is, I think, the living person closest to the boys of summer. (Koufax was a bonus baby in the years when teams had to carry bonus babies on the 25-man roster.)RIP to a man who was a Dodger all of his MBL career
Oddly enough, he didn't return to the majors until 1960, when he started a career with the Dodgers and other teams (including the Mets) through 1971.https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/a/asprobo01.shtmlBob Aspromonte is still with us at 85.
He batted once as a pinch hitter in 1956,the last Brooklyn pennant winner.
