Tim Samaras, his son, and his long time chasing partner were killed. This guy is definitely not your shock value, get as close as possible type. He is much more science oriented.

I am guessing a video of the chase will come out at some point.

wow. That sucks. I really liked him because he didn't seem to act while in front of the camera.

You're right about Samaras...that's sad.

He seemed like a good guy too. It seems there were several ppl who got caught up in them. Im sure the govt will want to make storm chasing laws now.

He seemed to be the most cautious of the chasers on the Storm Chasers TV show. He would on occasion call off a chase if he thought it was too risky. For those that didn't watch the show or know which one he was.

Man I hate that. I am a certified spotter/chaser myself and it is personal to me when something like this happens.

It was a bad week for chasers to say the least. What we do is not safe but the risk is worth it to help save lives. Just hate it for the families. Mike Bettis was TWC guy that had his car flipped and is quoted he may never chase again.

I happened to be watching the Weather Channel when they were following this storm that caught him and other storm chasers. The tornado made a sudden move south, which is extremely rare. It had been moving almost due east and the chasers all went south to try and get away from it. Just goes to show how unpredictable these stronger tornadoes are.

I have always been a weather nut and watched every episode of that show. Samaras was more interested in putting probes out in front of a storm than getting close and time and time again stopped a chase if he thought it was too dangerous. I think it was due to the sudden change of direction of the storm rather than bravado. They are going to miss this guy in storm research. He had captured a lot of extremely good field data for tornadoes and other severe weather.
