Anyone have any ideas on finding a condo/apartment in Starkville (MSU campus area) to purchase?I have casually been looking for a place for the last couple years with no luck. My thoughts are to find a place my kids can use while attending MSU, then when they are done, I can have for a weekend place. Therefore, I would like it close enough to ride my "soon to be illegal" golf cart in for games. There just never seem to be any available, unless you want to spend 250K for something downtown (which seems to be too far to "cart in for games")

nice condo. Oxford over built during the boom! You also need to be aware of Starkville property taxes which have gotten high with all the bond issues that have been passed. I highly recommend the purchase, we have enjoyed ours a bunch.

driving your golf cart in to the games there are some decent choices a few minutes from campus...particularly on the west side of Starkville. All are relatively expensive. We had a condo in the Upper Crossing area and really enjoyed it. It is well maintained but not super luxurious. It has been a stable development for at least ten years now. IF you can find one available I recommend the 3BR unit. On a good traffic day 5-7 minutes from campus...bad traffic day is maybe 10 minutes. It is very handy to The Hump and Dudy Noble. The post about Starkville taxes is true, but utilities and excellent fire protection keep insurance premiums quite low. We sold our condo and actually built a house in that same area; both our children have lived there during college. Houses in that area are in the low one hundreds. Condo probably is less than six figures if you can find one for sale.

I have noticed the posts about the high taxes. Not really looking forward to that! But purchasing is what I have my mind set on. What I'm looking for may actually be asking too much. The proposeddevelopments close to campus don't seem will ever come. I have looked into the new Carpenter Place development, but not crazy about that location. Will look into the Upper Crossing area. Thanks!

What size are you looking far? I have a one-bedroom in Cotton Quarters (on Jarnigan) I'm looking to sell. It's a very nice, small development, 12 units I think. Hardwood floors, marble, nice appliances, etc.. Also has a great covered outdoor area w/ 42"-50" plasma, wood fireplace and multiple grills. Maybe three students live there but mostly alumni (great, sociable group) for game weekends. I'm sure there are one or two two-bedrooms available there too. Prices are below the number you mentioned (mine considerably so.) PM me for more info. I can put you in touch with the right people even if mine doesn't suit your needs.

Starkville taxes are low compared to other cities in the state. Yes, they seem high to those of us that live here because of the hikes from the bond issue and from the county raising it's property taxes. I had hoped we could do something about the county "taxing" Supervisors this last election but the squeaked by in the election.

Still, even with the county taxes and the bond issues, taxes in Oktibbeha county are low compared to the rest of the state.

Thanks for the info! I had heard there was to be something on Russell soon, but have yet to find anything concrete. Those Tabor have are all 1 BR and I'm really looking for at least a 2BR

Use to have a 1200 sq.ft on S.Montgomery in the colony. Those go for around $65K. There are good deals to be had in Starkville.

I have a 2 Bedroom 2 1/2 bath (1300 sq ft.) condo for sale in Academy Village. Which is right off Montgomery Street. Golf Cart driving distance to the stadium (folks do it all the time; no trouble from cops). It's right across from Starkville Academy. Very Nice neighborhood. I am asking nowhere near the 250K range (below 100K). Send me a pm and I'll give you my contact information and we can chat.

I have an extremely nice retreat lot in Browning Creek that would be perfect for a 3 bedroom condo. The development is a lake community and is gated for privacy/protection. The downside is it would not be within driving distance on a golf cart to MSU events. Send me a PM if interested.
