The name make think of "The Lord of the Rings."

Frodo Baggins and Dabo Sweeney.

Frodo - erm - I mean Dabo - was complaining about the portal transfers ("Guys dont want to be patient anymore")
A lot of those recruiting monopolies in Dixieland are bleeding off ranked players they collected.
That's a reason I liked Sanders - SEC commish squealed the loudest over portal.
Prime recently said he's only taking around 5 high school players and the rest will be from portal.
I'm not crazy about portal, but I thought it was good that it will be harder to collect 4* players for benches.
Portal is like free agency now.

"Transfer Portal Use at Colorado Is 'Troubling,' SEC Commissioner Says"

SEC commissioner Greg Sankey weighed in on the start of Deion Sanders' tenure with Colorado.."As we're talking about providing more certainty and security for student-athletes, the headline can be a bit troubling," the commissioner said. "I think Deion's explained a lot. Whether people are okay with that is probably another conversation for another day."

There is, of course, some irony in the SEC commissioner of all people calling the use of the transfer portal "troubling."

The powerhouse programs in his conference are certainly using the portal as well, even if the roster transformations aren't as drastic as the one Colorado underwent this offseason. LSU won the national championship during the 2019 season with transfer quarterback Joe Burrow under center, while Stetson Bennett transferred away from and then back to Georgia during his collegiate career."

Trevor Lawrence was playing for the Jaguar in 2021. Clemson ranked #3 in 2020.

Even though they had the number 1 QB recruit DJ Uiagalelei from 2020 starting in 2021 (ranked #13) and 2022(ranked13), it was never the same as with Trevor Lawrence. DJ Uiagalelei transferred out in 2023 to Oregon State.

Cade Klubnik the number 2 QB recruit in 2022 took over in 2023.

Florida State after James Winston left in 2015 was never the same fell to #14 in the AP poll.

Clemson's issues are simple. They don't bring on portal transfers and have lost a ton. Dabo is rolling the dice on traditional recruits and his QB's have not panned out yet. Plus the loss of Venables and the co-OC's. Dabo needs to adapt and pick better coaches.

They can’t buy players anymore. NIL leveled the playing field.
False. Dabo didn’t embrace the portal. Now he has to and they will start shelling out huge NIL deals to transfers and will be back next season.

Did anyone actually listen to Dabo? He has a good point IMO. Twelve straight years of 10+ wins and the fan base is in an uproar over one 4-4 season where their base stats aren't that bad overall but they have had trouble finishing drives. Dabo clearly says it is a bad year and that it is on him as the head coach, but feels as if the fans should be more appreciative of the great stretch they've been on.

Why this instantly pivots to Deion without even talking about Dabo...

Yeah, but why does he call the caller a "kid"? Guy sounded like he was in his 40s.

And the caller was pretty obnoxious too. I think Dabo really put things in perspective. I didn't realize they were on a run like that.

Dabo has been a wildly successful coach, but I just don't have a lot of respect for him given his first stance on pre-game kneeling/BLM and also paying players.

He, like many others unfortunately, believed players should protest someplace else...meaning someplace less visible and impactful. Same attitude people had who didn't want MLK's national mall march/rally there (too public and disrespectful).

This belongs in a different forum I guess, but ..... I dislike him immensely.

Dabo isn't wrong, but at $10.5M per, he needs to understand high expectations come with the territory.

Dabo is 💯 correct. He’s earned it. But….
Caller is 💯 correct.
Both are right.
With great $10.5 million power comes great responsibility.

I agree with his viewpoint about fans and appreciation vs expectation. However, I think the guy should reign in his emotions a bit more, avoid the rant and just provide the same message in a more calm response.

Every team is gonna have its share of delusional fans whose lives revolve around the team. Part of coaching a high level team is coping with unreasonable expectations from such fans.

I like Dabo but think that is related to the amount of pressure he is under right now. He built up the program but his challenge is that it seems he can't maintain the standards he set.

He regrets it. He’s 29. His gf has given him grief about it.
