Meeting a friend there tonight because that's where she wants to go. I don't understand why some dumpy, hole-in-the-wall dive bar charges a cover almost every night. I'm there to drink not to listen to the townies play covers in sandals. And of course there will be dudes in ponytails smoking pipes and discussing philosophy over a pbr.

Blasphemy. Daves is my favorite bar in Starkville. No one makes a better calzone and the deep dish is awesome.

The live music is good and you couldn't beat a chill night doing trivia.

Dave's has some of the best live music and best food in StarkVegas. If you don't like the establishment then leave. We obviously could never be friends.

Probably wasn't a good idea to post this in retrospect, but I just don't think it's great. I don't understand how someone can say they have a meaningful music scene coming out of there.

I've had the pizza a few times and the calzones and thought they were great. My biggest problem is the cover, every.single.night.

I've never been there before 7:30 and paid cover. Maybe with it being a Saturday night, they charge cover before then, but rarely go on the weekends. The music scene isn't great, but occasionally there will be a band worth seeing.

Yeah I feel kind of ****** for talking about a starkville business like this especially since I've had good times there. I'm just ranting because I'm about to drive all the way out there. I'd delete the thread if I could.
Last time I was there this band covered RHCP.....three times and then ended their set with stairway to heaven. The absolute pinnacle of douchery

$5 cover

...oh the horror.

Wait 'till you graduate and move off to a big town, where the cover is at minimum twice that, and the drink prices are double/triple what they are in Starkville. Of course, if you go back to BFE, Mississippi you're likely to not deal with this.

Let me clear some things about Dave's up:

Is is the food over priced? Yes.
Are the drinks over priced? Yes.
Is the service good? No.
Do you sometimes have to pay a cover to eat? Yes.
Is the band usually too loud to talk to people around you? Yes.

Why does Dave's stay open then? Because there isn't any competition in SVille for them. It's the only dark, dingy, music, hippy, pot smokers bar in SVille.

I've already graduated Kurt. I'm in Oxford every weekend as most my friends live there and I never pay a cover to drink.

I love Dave's. The ambiance is pretty cool and I usually enjoy the live music. However, I agree about the cover charge. And, I have always thought they charged a bit much for their beers. I have money, and I don't mind spendin' it on booze, but it always annoys me to have to pay ca. 5 bucks for a good pint of beer, in Starkville MS, no less; it should never cost that much. Grumpy's would sell pitchers of premium beer for 5 bucks...can't beat that, homies.

Dave's has some of the best pizza in Starkville and on your birthday it's free and the more people the more free pizza, but it's a complete ******** of a place. Yea they have trivia but one game last 3 1/2 hours which makes it not worth it to go due to the horrible service. My list of bars to go to:

1. Halfway House
2. Old Venice
3. Veranda
4. District Bars
5-98. Home or The Pony with a brown bag
99. Cowbells
100. Dave's

I always thought Ole Venice's copper top was the most underrated bar in Starkville.

I hate Grumpy's is no more. That was always a go-to hangout, especially in the summer. The best bar food combo in the history of mankind was the BBQ nachos and a cold pitcher from Grumpy's. I miss that place...

Hear, hear. I loved watching baseball on the big screen. The service wasn't always the best, but we almost always had the same waitress every time, and she always compensated us with a free pitcher or two. I am still sad over them closing.

And yes, the Alamo (bbq nachos) was the truth.

We should just have everyone list their ACT scores and opinions of Dave's in their signatures.

It would really help me filter out people whose opinion I can immediately and totally ignore.

But you know, if Dave's was for everyone I guess the terrible people would inhabit it too. So I can be thankful for that.

A HA! good grief. i know i have been gone from State for a little bit, but I couldn't place it at all. Bully III... so they replaced Bully III with a crappy dive bar full of potheads? I hate it too.

Yeah, I use to work at Dave's. I spent more time there than any other bar - probably not even close. But, I'll stand by everything I posted.

Food isbt great, drinks are over priced, service is terrible. If there was another dark, dingy tavern in town with live music, it would put Dave's under.

No it wouldn't...

If another dive bar with good music and above average bar food opened in Starkville, then there would be two dive bars with good music and above average bar food. And if a third opened, then there would be three.

Starkville is under served on a number of fronts. Anybody who has some deep pockets, and a desire to run a business like that, and do it right, can make money Vegas.

No matter what, Dave's will always get a good and regular crowd enough to keep the doors open. For the record, it has always been and will always be my choice. Couldn't hurt to get add a few really good permanent craft brews, and a rotating tap.
