OT: Does Beyoncé's new song Texas Hold 'Em fall into the country genre?

If they played the song without saying it was Beyonce singing, I think everyone would call it a country song.

Country splintered a while ago, so most of what is popularized as Country these days is just a subset of Pop, and artists more authentic to traditional country are found under genres like Americana.
It certainly has a country/soul feel to it . I like the song, she is a good singer. I don’t know why we are so anxious to label music these days. There is plenty of country/pop/rock type stuff out there. Why do they label Chris Stapleton as “country”? , To me , he is more of an R&B / Soul singer. Is it because he wears a western type hat? Silly stuff.
Conway Twitty moved from rock & roll to country ( or jumped from one to the other in the 1950s)
I remember listing to rock and roll songs in the 1950s that were sung by artists considered country now.
Kid Rock made the move from rap to country
Aaron Lewis went from being in an alternative metal group to country
Kenny Rodgers didn't start out as a country singer and was involved in the
rock and psychedelic sound before turning country and being one of it's biggest stars
Aerosmith will never be confused with country , but it's front-man , Steve Tyler
put out country albums on his own.
Beyonce is just adding to her audience and by expanding her music appeal.
Nothing to get upset about, she isn't the first

I've said before that I hate labels, but I'm going to violate my hatred of labels and call it something.
Don't hear the "Soul" only gospel is a subgenre or closely related genre to soul.
Seems the artist are blurring a lot of lines and making music that may defy categories, and that is kind of cool. While I am not a country fan, I like Chris Stapleton's stuff that I have heard.
There is a genre of music I like called Psychobilly, which is super fast rockabilly.
I would call this Beyonce track Gospelbilly-- a blend of gospel and rockabilly. Of course people will disagree and opinions will vary, because this track defies categorization.

Maybe true but I've never heard of her. I'm guessing a lot of people are in the same boat. Today former black country music folks just got introduced to the world thanks to a preview of a future song and every media source is covering it. Good for both of them.
Rhiannon Giddens is an “Americana” musician of high caliber. She does a mix of blues and bluegrass which are much more related than many think. Beyoncé is a pop singer who decided to do this country tinged song. I don’t know what is “fronting” about it specifically. It can be argued that all popular music is “fronting”, no one is reinventing the musical wheel here.
If we go by R & R HOF standards this song immediately puts her in the Country Music HOF and she'll be become a member of the Grand Ole Opry.
I don't like Country music and despise a lot of it.
I could listen to Beyonce sooner because she's not hee-haw.
While some say "its just a song" its coming with a toxic load.

Southern accents derive from Elizabethan England and Scotland so maybe they should get into the debate and reclaim something

Lots of people know her - she won a MacArthur Fellowship (genius award).
I'm 100% positive Beyonce knows her despite jumping her in line.

The focus on race regarding this song is predictable and emblematic of the times we live in. I was fortunate, having grown up listening to the “Golden Era” of rock music from the mid 60’s through early 70’s. The beauty of that era is that it was a veritable melting pot of sound. A cacophony of “cross pollenization” musical sound and style. The fact is from the beginning, both Northern European ( Scotch/ Irish folk) music combined with African American Blues/Gospel music to form what would become “Country” and “Rhythm and Blues” . Jimmie Rodgers “The Father of Country Music”. was influenced by early Blues singers. Hank Williams Sr was also influenced by Blues singers/musicians. McKinley Morganfield aka “Muddy Waters” the great Blues singer was influenced by Jimmie Rodgers, the “Country” singer. Music is in the air and rises above man made barriers.
I was sure Yonce knew about Giddens.
Giddens played the banjo part a couple of years ago and was surprised to hear it come out

I’m sure many more people will now know who she is thanks to Beyoncé. Much like Tracy Chapman showed back up on the top of the charts after she played with Luke Combs at the Grammys. I’d say it’s a great thing for them.
