They weren't offering more or he would have gone there. That's the point.

That statement is hilariously dishonest.

What we don't know is whether U. Washington crossed his palm with some additional green pieces of paper to get him to agree to stay on board. While his legal position may have been weak, the last thing U. Washington would want is protracted litigation over this.

I was wondering something like that with Miami and the Duke QB,
An under the table deal that doubles what Duke claims is theirs no matter where he plays , by having a booster pay his parents NIL money

Or his sister. This SI article suggests some rumored numbers for Mensah. It was written before the lawsuit but if Duke won’t let Miami pay his NIL, and since they’re already rumored to be recruiting his sister, they could always put the money in her name (assuming she can break her contact with Oregon).

Why did Duke enter him into the transfer portal only to sue later to stop him from entering the transfer portal?

Schools jump conferences even though they are contractually tied to a conference.
Coaches leave for more money even though they are under contract.
Players - YOU MUST HONOR YOUR CONTRACT.

Can't blame the players when the "adults" haven't done it.
Three wrongs don't make a right.

And you overlooked that when coaches leave, they are required to abide by the terms of their contract, for example, paying a buyout amount.

Same thing sir schools with grant of rights.

Totally different scenarios. Or mayne not. Contract clauses may still be enforced.

Then impose transfer fees like they have in the soccer leagues.

It’s also a risk keeping players that want out on your roster, especially at QB.
Totally agree. Gotta wonder with the UWash QB how his teammates feel about him. Maybe some guys on the OL may slip up and let a blindside defensive player through when the team has a game "won".

The flip side is the player potentially doesn’t put as much prep time in and tunes out the coaching staff leading to losses. Or the slightest injury has them out long term.

Coaches abide by their contracts as do conferences who often have to pay penalties. Contracts are made to be broken, but you are going to have to pay to get out of them if that language is in there. Duke has a pretty smart group of people. It's not hard to imagine a big NIL deal is tied to some expectation of actually playing.

Not really. Professional players, which these guys are now, are expected to be just that. Mensah would only hurt himself and his future earnings if he decided to pout on the sidelines and not perform. No one made him sign a contract with Duke. He chose to do so. Either he honors the contract or gets punished. Those are the options.

These players are playing in the real world now. Consequences for actions happen.

I'm honestly surprised that many people would stand up for the Duke QB's actions here. The players are certainly no longer the abused/exploited entity in college sports (and I'm not convinced they ever were, but that's now a moot point). From everything I've read, it's indefensible. Maybe I'm missing something...

Under the terms of Duke's NIL contract with Mensah, any disputes between the parties must be settled through arbitration. The school said it filed a claim for arbitration Monday and wanted the judge to issue relief until the end of that arbitration process.

Once this is settled I would guess a penalty clause will be part of NIL deals like when a College dumps a coach with a contract with time left before it expires

It's going the way of any other professional who signed a contract. It's like Bellinger just signing his contract with the Yankees and tomorrow saying he wants to sign with the Mets.

Good luck. It's pretty shocking Mensah or his people would advise him to do this. He's hurting his own value moving forward.

"Prevent manifest injustice. " :ROFLMAO: Boo hoo, take the $4M Duke was going to pay you and suck it up buttercup.

He decided to enter the portal late. He could have done it sooner.
