dealerships are very ill prepared to handle the shift to BEV. service is such a big component of their revenue model that, inevitably, some, if not many will go out of business. i wouldn't want to own an auto dealership right now.

incorrect - Hertz is playing "full retail" for the 100k cars - unheard of - but further illustrates how far ahead Tesla is. And that is why I have become totally skeptical of the line " the competition is coming and when it does Tesla will be exposed". Been hearing that now for 5 years and still nothing out there that can compete on price/volume/value/range.No doubt it’s a good deal to snag but reports indicate Hertz is paying wholesale/cost. Still has no business being a $1T company.
Early reports were incorrect. It’s a great deal for Tesla. Ford just reported a great quarter…incorrect - Hertz is playing "full retail" for the 100k cars - unheard of - but further illustrates how far ahead Tesla is. Question about hybrids. I am starting to think I might be able secure a twelve and a half foot kayak in a Ford Maverick with the tilt up gate they have plus a fair amount of bungee cords. So anyway, my question about hybrids. Does the hybrid use the battery energy first and then switch to the gasoline or is it the other way around? Are there two gauges in the dashboard, one that says how much gas is left and one that says how much battery juice is left? Do the hybrid batteries cost a lot more than a normal one? Do they last as long? Thanks for any info.
That's a short-sighted statement that tells none of the actual story. The NTSB's job is to recommend regulatory action to the appropriate agencies - USDOT, FHWA, FAA, etc. Those agencies almost invariably adopt those recommendations.
Some recognizable regulatory efforts that the NTSB has been responsible for, in spite of having "no regulatory authority":
To dismiss the power exerted by the NTSB is just stupid.

Bleem,I initially ruled it out too. But I looked at one on the lot in Toms River. The tailgate has brackets that tilt the gate up on an angle . Yes, half the boat would hang out but the weight is not that much (55 pounds) and it would be focused on the gate and downward. Like I do now, the boat would be on an angle , not straight out. From what I hear, ordering a hybrid would mean a delivery of anywhere from four to six months from now. It is not like I have to get a new truck now, but I am at 124,000 miles and I really don’t like what is going on with gas prices. Wawa is now $3.50 a gallon. It may go back down, but I don’t know when or if we we will get back to $2 again. What is great is that you can put a refundable deposit down. They are selling them so fast, they know if people change their mind they will be able to sell them off the lot in five seconds. Still in the preliminary stage . No decision has been made.It depends on the hybrid type, which doesn't really answer your specific question, but - I think your question might be moot, since there's no real chance you're getting a 12.5' kayak in a Maverick. The bed is 4.5' long. The half-fold tailgate adds another 18" in length. Your kayak would be more than 50% beyond the rear-most point of the vehicle.
Model S is already being outsold. Not sure what you are not seeing. Outsold by what - the Porsche? If that is what you are referring to you completely don't get what is going on. I can buy a Mach e today at my local ford dealer - cant get a model y until June. I don’t get why you guys get so defensive. I ordered a ID4 in July and still waiting. Case closed. I ordered F150 Lighting that won’t get filled until 3Q 2022. Case closed. Go and try to buy a Taycan and see what the wait is. Case closed.Outsold by what - the Porsche? If that is what you are referring to you completely don't get what is going on. Agree with jtung. I don’t think a single person on this thread said Tesla sucks. But to deny that every single major auto manufacturer is coming for Tesla and that every single car on the road will be a Tesla is just lunacy. There are so many brand loyalists that will NEVER touch a Tesla. My mother-in-law has had 5 Lincoln cars in a row. My wife has had 4 Volvos in a row. People are creatures of habit when it comes to cars and there are millions of Ford and GM loyalists, especially in the Midwest and Rust Belt, that you couldn’t pay to drive a Tesla. Regardless, Tesla is impressive but, for me, I’d go Taycan all day long.I don’t get why you guys get so defensive. I ordered a ID4 in July and still waiting. Case closed. Not defensive. Reality. This is about volume production. There's a reason most start up car companies have historically failed. Reaching volume production is insanely difficult. If you can't reach volume production, you can't make a profit on your vehicles (high end luxury EVs like the Taycan would be the exception).I don’t get why you guys get so defensive. That has not been my experience. Any Mach-E's on the lot I've seen are cancelled orders that are then marked up $7500 or more. Otherwise have to order.Outsold by what - the Porsche? Same exact experience here. I stumbled onto a Ford lot one day out of curiosity and it was clear that you either pay up or wait. That has not been my experience. Any Mach-E's on the lot I've seen are cancelled orders that are then marked up $7500 or more. Otherwise have to order.
For reasons that escape me, he, and a couple other Teslarati here, seem to think that a business having a head start means it'll never be caught. And I suspect, when Tesla is caught, they'll refuse to ever concede the fact, much like the Trumperati refusing to accept that Trump lost the election.@BellyFullOfWhiteDogCrap
I agree Tesla doesn’t have much competition right now. But I think its crazy talk if you think it’s not coming.
This blatant, dishonest fabrication from you again? For reasons that escape me, he, and a couple other Teslarati here, seem to think that a business having a head start means it'll never be caught.
You're projecting your views onto others. While you may not hold this viewpoint, the clear insinuation by some of the more cultish posters in this thread as that nobody will ever catch Tesla. This blatant, dishonest fabrication from you again?
No one on this thread has ever said Tesla will 'never be caught'.
What some of us are saying is that they have a 5-10 year lead at present (which is some head start).
So now it is only a 'clear insinuation' on your part rather than 'them' asserting such? While you may not hold this viewpoint, the clear insinuation by some of the more cultish posters in this thread as that nobody will ever catch Tesla.
Oh come on. You don't actually expect them to admit it, do you? Please. So now it is only a 'clear insinuation' on your part rather than 'them' asserting such?
Let me directly ask this thread then. Does anyone believe that Tesla can never be caught by another electric car manufacturer in the indefinite future?
The EV revolution is entirely driven by government policies. Let's stop pretending otherwise.
do you spit or swallow? The California Air Resources Board deserves some credit, yeah. But EVs are due almost entirely to Elon Musk. Imagine the EV world today without Tesla leading the way.
Most people don’t even know that Tesla was founded in July 2003 by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning. Our Elon, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.....
